  1. My question to you is this... Are you going to let that steak be more important than the goal you are trying to achieve? When you look back on this time...the preop diet, are you going to be proud that you stuck with it or are you going to be regretting that a "steak" was more important to you? All I know is that I'd give you steaks for life if it meant I could be in your shoes right now! I'm hoping for surgery in May but who knows when it'll be since I'm waiting on doctors, insurance, etc. Ultimately it is up to you and what you feel is more important. I can't imagine it is easy to be on all-liquids for that long but I sure as hell can't wait till it's my turn to try! Congratulations for making it this far and good luck to you!
  2. Tabby, Does Dr. C do any kind of informational seminar?
  3. Sorry to butt in here but I just had to tell you one of my Easter candy solutions... Buy them candy that you DON'T like! I do it every year so that I don't end up raiding their baskets. You can send all your Cadbury's to me, too....I'll not even TOUCH them!! :hurray:
  4. Hi Michelle and WELCOME! I really don't have any advice to offer as I have been to the same seminar as you and the info. would be the same! However, there are several who post here that have used the Miles/Schmitt group so I am sure you will be hearing from them soon! Good luck and, again, WELCOME!!
  5. Thanks for the info. Tabby, I have used doctors at Kirklin Clinic before and have always been impressed with the level of care. I would assume since Dr. C. is with the Kirklin Clinic that it was an outpatient procedure? I am really leaning towards at least a 23-hour stay, if possible. Thanks again!
  6. Ooh, LOVE it! What about.. Marvelous MAY Minimizers Whoo hoo!!
  7. Thanks wrestler and awoman.... I typed up a letter for my doctor yesterday and included my WW booklet with it. It was faxed to him this morning. Now I am just praying that he will sign it. AWOMAN, yes, he has known me for multiple years and knows my struggles. I guess right now I am just with the mentality of what could go wrong, probably will. I sure could use some prayers right now. WRESTLER, thank you SO much for the info. It was VERY helpful.
  8. Or how about a dose of her own medicine?? As a nursing student and someday a nursing professional (and I use that term lightly) she will need to learn that giving advice based on personal feelings should only be provided when ASKED for!! :blushing:
  9. ROFL  GC, I am from Alabama and I had to work to stay upright in my chair. My MIL not only called our house EVERY night at 9 p.m., we DO live in her back yard! Anyway, I also wanted to give you kudos for being the type SIL that your brother's GF can come to. When is a bad MIL terrible? When you add in a bad SIL... Take it from me!! We still have issues with that one but for the most part, I just ignore her. Just one example: She told us a couple of years ago that our Christmas gifts suck and we should just give her kids cash... :sneaky:
  10. I know exactly what you are talking about. My DH is the only son and the baby so his mom totally whacked out when we said we were getting married. She even had the audacity to tell me one time that "I was stealing him from her". All I can say is, FAMILY is overrated. DH and I have been married coming up on 16 years and I can finally say after several (I know of at least 4) really big BLOWUPS, that we are finally all cool with one another. However, it took my DH standing up to his mother many, many times. The one time that I really treasure in my heart, though, is when I heard him tell her this: "There is no ME for you without her". I think that's when she realized that he was serious that she better learn to accept me if she planned to have him at all. It also let me know how much he LOVES me!! I feel for you...never pleasant!
  11. I'm pretty sure there is already a group on here with that name...the a-May-zing bandits... isn't there?
  12. Members of the BBB: Blooming Bandster Buddies :smile2: So far we have: - Magnificient Mays - May Miracles If anyone likes the BBB we can add it to our list. I'm stil thinking of others, though. Really, I don't have a lot of time on my hands, I'm just obsessed until I get my band and cannot help myself!
  13. Wonderful news about the Approval, Grace!!! :smile2: Very sorry to hear of your loss..God has blessed you with the approval news to help you move on (although you never forget, I don't). I'm thinking it is going to be so much easier for you to get pregnant, though, after you start losing weight!! We can't wait to hear your date!!
  14. RCG.. I think I'm in love!! JUST KIDDING!!! Seriously, though, I have a packet from the Miles/Schmitt seminar so I'll check it out and see. I did sit down yesterday and write a letter for my PCP and included those dates. I was going to take it in to the office next week and see if they will use it and have him sign it. It just makes me feel like it will get me there a lot sooner if I do most of the work for them. Thanks again for your response. I was a little bummed because they canceled a seminar I was supposed to attend yesterday morning due to the weather so it was a pick-me-up (thus, the whole declaration of love thing )
  15. Not sure any of the guys would want to be called a flower ...
  16. Yay Bama~ :tea: Glad everything went well. Can't wait to hear how much weight you've lost!
  17. I am hoping with some information I get in the next few days that I will be able to schedule my surgery for May. I had a thought about a name for the group to consider.... May Miracles ? Just a thought! :tea:
  18. YEA!! Thanks Snuffy, for your reply. That's the answer I was looking for. Anyone else have any experience with this -- good or bad??
  19. Hi All, I am trying to figure out every way possible to get this surgery ASAP so here is the deal... I started seeing my physician in October but I had been attending Weight Watchers WEEKLY since April, with september being my last month. Do you think there is a way to get them to use that as my supervised diet if I had my physician verify that I was on a diet plan???? It really just hit me that I had done it for the 6 months prior to starting with my physician. Anyway, if you have any ideas, suggestions, general knowledge about it, I would certainly appreciate it!!!
  20. Denise, I had it done a couple of years ago and I wouldn't hesitate to have it done out of town/state. I was only down for the day... and was out watching a movie at the theater that night. It is totally awesome!! :crying:
  21. IMHO, 20 pounds would probably be too much. However, you have to be at a weight that you are comfortable with, even if others think you are too skinny. Example; I have a friend who had RNY 3 years ago and even though I and, more importantly, her DOCTORS think she needs to gain 10 or 15 pounds, SHE needs to be at the weight she is in order to feel comfortable and not be scared of going back. You are the only one who can answer what is best for you but just remember that your ultimate goal is to be healthy! My 2 cents? You look GREAT!
  22. Does anyone know... after you complete the 6-month diet, how soon can you schedule surgery? Say, if I start the diet in January when can I expect to be eligible to have the surgery?
  23. Scorpio, Thanks for your information. How long ago were you banded? Where did he do your surgery? Did you stay overnight? I am going to a seminar for Dr. Dewitt this weekend if anyone has any information on him. Also, has anyone heard of Dr. Cottingham? Thanks!
  24. My opinion would be to get another opinion. Some surgeons are just more comfortable with RNY than the band.
  25. Hi Chris, I have used an orthodontic appliance for about 3-4 years now. It works great for me. I am super compliant with it, which is something I totally wasn't with the CPAP. I'm not sure that mine is an "Herbst" appliance. Mine is called the PM Positioner. I personally LOVE it! I had a sleep study done with it and although it didn't provide the optimal results that the CPAP did, it was enough of an improvement that my doctor thought it would be fine. Good luck to you on your appliance!
