  1. I love my band.. it is a tool not a cure all.. you have to know what your limits are and chew chew chew... :smile2:
  2. Sorry to hear about your loss, you have to try to think positive.. I know that my seem hard but if there is one thing with stress it can actually make you gain weight because you give off this chemical.. can't remember what it is called but it works against you. Try not to cheat .. do something else, go for a walk, ride a bike, call a friend. You do not want to gain back what you lost as this would just put you in a deeper spiral. We are here for you!! Take care and all the best!
  3. Tyler: I was banded just this year in Feb through the Weight Management program.. it's a fabulous program .. however you may want to check as I have heard grumblings that they have lost their funding due to cutbacks to Health Care... Good Luck
  4. Wow thanks for sharing.. I have not tried pizza since being banded.. perhaps I won't now!
  5. Good Luck with your first fill, good to hear that you are healing nicely! Great job on the Weightloss!! Keep it Up!!
  6. Well I just had my first fill last week and the Dr. said I was doing so good that I didn't even need a fill but I got one anyways. He only gave me 1cc in my band and I had about 1cc in there from it being primed prior to being inserted. I have not noticed any difference but then I only had 1cc. Hopefully you will not notice much of a change. Keep me posted! :huh2:
  7. Welcome, and congrats on the surgery! Keep us posted :huh2:
  8. Good Luck with the surgery .. it's the best decision you could have made for yourself!
  9. I think your neighbour needs to see a doctor. I was banded Feb 20/08 and have no problem with foods other then apples as I possibly either didn't chew it enough or I should have peeled it. Do not be discouraged as your results will most likely be totally different. It depends on you and remember to chew chew chew.

I was banded on Feb 20 and have lost 36 since the pre-op liquid diet. I lost 21 to start and 15 since the surgery, but I did plateau for a few weeks and have since then started losing again. Go next week for my first fill.
  11. Good for you, the decision is a great one! I was nervous and scared but it was the best decision that I have ever made. Good luck with your consult!
  12. My post op experience has been good, I have had no hunger pains since being banded.. actually I don't really get hungry at all anymore. I have not had a fill yet but I have not had any problem foods but I have heard that happens more after your first fill. I have done well saw the surgeon yesterday and he said that I have lost more weight then they would like.. they only want 1-2 pounds per week and well I lost 10 in 14 days after my surgery. Talk soon and Take Care
  13. Tais: I have been eating the blenderized sorts .. lastnight I had blended meatloaf and rice with a little chicken broth and ketchup.. it actually wasn't that bad. I feel the same way as you, I have yet to actually feel hungry but I am intaking liquids and some foods because I know I have to in order not to become dehydrated and to get the nutrients that are needed in order to be well and heal. Are you taking a chewable Multivitamin? That was recommended by my dietician so that you get get the necessary things that are needed that you are not getting out of the food. Keep in touch .. I look forward to our journey (somewhat) together!
  14. Jen: My surgery was done laparoscopically as far as I know that is the only way that the 4 doctors here do it, as it is less invasive and quicker healing time. However that being said that I suppose if they could not see things clearly that they may open you up! Take Care,
  15. Hello All: I was banded on Feb 20/08 I am one of the 100 surgeries that were approved for Dr. Descouteaux and he performed my surgery at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. There are 4 lapband surgeons in Calgary that all operate at the PLC, Dr. Church, Dr. Descouteaux, Dr. Dabru (sp?), Dr. Mitchell. You must be referred to the Weight Management Clinic at the Colonel Belcher in DT Calgary. I was in the program almost 1 year before having my surgery, however it was well worth the weight. I started the liquid diet on Feb 6, 08 and have lost a total of 28 pounds from then until now 8 days after the surgery! Anyways, have any questions I will gladly answer them if I can! Take Care... :rolleyes2:
  16. Thank you for your welcome susan! :rolleyes2: I look forward to chatting with people about issues or concerns.. if I have any!! (crossed fingers, hopefully not!) Take Care,
  17. Good to hear that your band is well, but I hope that you can resolve what the issue is with everything else. Good luck to you!!
  18. Hey there taismommy, I was also banded on the 20th of Feb, 2008 and I am gladly down 28 pounds since I started my liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery! I have yet to have my follow up with my surgeon but I am hoping that he will remember what my liver looked like as I did not deviate from the liquid diet not once. They had mentioned in our classes that they were know who the cheaters were!! Anyways, good luck with your journey and keep in touch .. one can never have to many friends.. even though I live in Canada .. Take Care! :rolleyes2:
  19. Hi, making the decision to ultimately have the surgery is the hardest hurdle that I faced. I think that the people that are closest to you can be judgmental however they are hopefully just looking out for your well-being. I have looked into Jenny Craig and I think by the time you join, buy the food week after week after week you could have paid for more than half of the surgery. I am not an American Citizen so I do not know much about the way your Health Care Insurance works .. but I wish you all the best. If you really want this you way find a way to make it happen. (fingers crossed and my thoughts are with you!)
  20. Hey Ssh: Good to hear that you are doing well ... I have started a digital scrapbook logging my progress it is a great tool. I hope your surgery goes well.. and good luck!! :rolleyes2: Take care.
  21. Hello All: I was banded on Feb 20, 2008 in Calgary, AB. I was lucky enough to be selected for a research opportunity through our Health Region here in my home town. They started with 25 but then got approved for 100 more and I was thankfully one of those 100. I would not change anything, I feel that I have made the right decision and in just 22 days I have already shed 28 pounds .. of course this included 2 weeks of the Opti-fast at 900 calories per day, but again all worth it. I was slow moving the first few days after the surgery as they only let you stay in the hospital for 24 hours .. then they need the bed for other people. I commend all of you from the United States that have made the decision to have this for yourself, for your health, or your family and maybe not had the opportunity that I had to have it all paid for! Well, if you have any questions, new banders? People thinking about banding.. just let me know! I always have time for people.. :biggrin2:
