Will it ever happen?
My insurance requirements were pretty lengthy and I began my process i my home state only to get knocked back a step after my insurance told me it's a requirement for me to go to a center of excellence, and the closest one to me was almost 300 miles away:/ I cried a bit, but got it together and began contacting that hospital, that had its own trials and tribulations between constantly fighting with my mom (because she's scared for me to have the surgery) to trying to get time off for me to be able to travel and get some of my tests done. Got over that hump, had a consultation, and set up future appointments. Literally the next day I find out I have no insurance due to a discrepancy on their end, so I was forced to cancel all my appointments:/ this brought more tears and heartaches. I felt at my wits end as if it would never happen, and paying out of pocket just wasn't an option. I had to sit and twiddle my thumbs waiting for an appeal process to go through with insurance, and it finally did yesterday! First thing I did was call to set up my appointments. My first one is on Monday, but I don't find myself feeling that same happiness I once did. I find myself waiting for the next bad thing to happen, and I absolutely hate feeling this way my only hope is I eventually get out of this funk and I'm able to finally find the joy about this new journey I once had. United healthcare Bariatric program
You should be fine all they do is give you a nurse who just basically keeps in contact with you while getting requirements done. No extra requirements or anything Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

United healthcare Bariatric program
I agree uhc is very vague and not helpful. I haven't even thought about out of pocket expenses yet...hopefully it isn't too much. Good luck to you! Let me know what your doctor says!I will be sure to give you a follow up once I leave Dr Chavda's seminar! Ok! I'm back from the seminar and when I tell you Dr Chavda is amazing.....he is amazing!!! His nurse the entire team were so helpful. I'm so excited to get started with this change! Anyway, my out of pocket is around 3000 only because my insurance covers 80% of facility fees. I pay the rest up to an out of pocket max of 3000. However, I truly think that I'll only be out of pocket closer to 2000 once I'm all said and done???????????? Oh good:) its good you have a good doctor, seems like it makes the process less stressful. Hopefully I get a good doctor as well, fingers crossed!

The insurance runaround
Thanks I really needed to hear that because I was getting super discouraged and wanted to quit, but I've never wanted so much in my life, so I'm just going to keep on pushing

The insurance runaround
I feel as if this surgery is nothing but a dream. I've heard so many different things from insurance about having to go to a center of excellence it's ridiculous. I cancelled one consultation for another almost 300 miles from me (closest qualifying hospital) just to have insurance tell me I don't necessarily have to go there yet and that I can advocate to go somewhere closer to me. So now is the waiting game, to see if my advocate can convince my insurance to let me go to an in network doctor near me (fingers crossed for this option), or if I have to go to a center of excellence. So now I'm just sitting around...I was really hoping to get the surgery this year, during my break from school, but it's looking like that may not happen:( it's just so frustrating.

Oh wow, well I hope your neurologist clears you!
-
Psych eval
Oh yeah that's good though the less complications the better. How did they find out you had Fluid on your neck?
-
Psych eval
Yeah, I hate anesthesia, but I hope everything goes well for you! Does your Dr. think bypass would help with the fluid on your neck at all?
-
Psych eval
Yeah I know what you mean. I want the sleeve too just because I don't like all the malabsorbtion, dumping and possibilities of strictures with bypass. I'm pretty sure I have GERD, but doesn't seem too bad to me, but I guess we'll wait and see what my Dr says.
-
Psych eval
Yeah that's GERD, and bypass actually helps with that as well!

United healthcare Bariatric program
That's great to hear! I spoke with my nurse and she seems really good, I'm actually happy to have that extra help from her. It's like added reinsurance that I will get approved, I was definitely nervous about it at first, but I feel more comfortable

Oh wow that's is a set back! I hope you get all your stuff sent over. I'm just glad I decided to ask about requirements again with my insurance because the first time they said my doctor just needed to be in network, but come to find out I have to have surgery at a COE. The closest is 4 hrs from where I live, and it's inconvenient but I just keep reminding myself how inconvenient it is to be unhealthy and morbidly obese, so it's totally worth the drive! Good luck to you though keep me posted!

This is all great info thanks everyone! I was also worried about any underlying mental conditions that would get me denied, but it's great to see others with them getting approved from the psych Dr

Is there any diagnosis that can keep you from getting the surgery?
