Does insurance (UHC) approve experimental surgeries
Well the good thing is my surgeon has been doing this awhile, and they seemed like they knew a lot about my insurance, and he's supposed to talk to the director that approves surgeries to get it overturned, so hopefully that will happen pretty soon because they already scheduled me, and I'd hate to have to reschedule. Does insurance (UHC) approve experimental surgeries
Thanks for yalls information. It was disheartening at first to hear it's not covered, but definitely doesn't stop my journey, just changes it up a bit. Hopefully my surgeon is able to convince them, but if not that's fine too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Does insurance (UHC) approve experimental surgeries
So the surgery I want (SIPS, modified DS) isn't technically covered, but my surgeon is going to speak to the director. Has anyone ever had luck having experimental surgeries covered? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

No, what is your coinsurance??? After you pay the 500 to your doctor, you'll pay what every your coinsurance is up to your out of pocket max after the deductible has been met. You can find out if your hospital will bill you so you can make payments on it. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App So I found out that 2000 is already given to us by the employer so I'll only be responsible for 500 Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App What is coinsurance? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App The percentage of what you pay and what your insurance will pay. Example: a silver plan is a 30/70 plan, Meaning, the beneficiary pay 30% after their deductible has been met and the insurance plan pays 70% Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App Oh okay the lady said it's 80/20 so does that mean the insurance pays 80 of the out of pocket? How does this all work? I have surgery on 1/23 but my insurance starts all over for the new year. My dr said two weeks before surgery they collect the deductible (which is $500). My out of pocket is 3900, so am I having to pay the $500 as well as the 3900 to the hospital for insurance to cover? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

GERD and SIPS
Oh good that's great to hear. I've had a little bit of heartburn, but I just found out I have a hernia, so they think that's what it's from and that it should get better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Starting to 2nd think!
Don't second guess yourself, it's for your health and that's what really matters. I was going through the same thing when I told people and you just have to come to a point to realize those people saying those things have a complex. In my case most the people that were against me doing it either knew someone who did it and they failed so they expect me to fail or they simply can't wrap their minds around me loosing weight and figure I'm doing it the easy way. As others said everyone who says it isn't a good idea isn't educated on the surgery itself, so their opinions aren't valid. You do this for you and your health and avoid the negativity and don't listen to it. Good luck with your surgery! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gallbladder can't be taken out during surgery?
Yeah I'm going to talk to my surgeon about it, I'm just worried he won't because I just found out I have a hiatial hernia then getting DS ( that's already 2 to 3 hours in surgery alone) and to do the gallbladder would extend that. I'm guessing they don't want me under for that amount of time, but we'll see what he says. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My doctor wants me to have this done-->help...questions
Oh okay, yeah I'm going to be getting DS but it's modified version of the original, so my common channel will be 300. My surgeon said he hasn't seen people with too many problems getting their Vitamin levels right with the patch due to the longer common channel, be he did say we were going to need at least 80 grams of Protein but the ultimate goal is 100. He said after about 6 months it should be easy because we can handle more intake than someone with like a sleeve, so hopefully all my levels check out when that time comes, I'd have to be malnourishment, and oh okay I will have to look into a dexa bone scan thanks for the info! Yeah I know what you mean, I feel like I was in a rush because my deductible is all paid so it would've been basically free this year, but no such luck:/ And that's great! 40 min isn't too bad Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My doctor wants me to have this done-->help...questions
Oh okay that makes sense. And I'm getting mine in Amarillo, Tx. My insurance requires I get it done at a center of excellence, and that's the closest one to me. And yeah it's crazy so many people have the same surgery dates, but good because they're able to go through it together. Hopefully l will be able to have surgery the end of January, but we'll see, waiting on insurance right now. What about you, where are you getting yours done?
