  1. Good luck! You're almost there. They took me into the OR put a sedative in my IV and a nanosecond later I was in recovery! You'll do great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. It raised my level of commitment to the whole thing. And I liked getting my cravings under control with the Protein shakes. Good luck to you all. You're gonna do great!☀️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  4. Just because they are asking doesn't mean you have to answer. As a matter of fact keeping your business will lead to them shrugging their shoulders and moving on to something else. If you do start talking...it's an open topic. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Everyone has their opinion. I'm trying to keep my info as private as possible. I don't need negative energy from people's judgements. I only had one friend who tried to talk me out of it. I don't think it was out of jealousy. I just think she wasn't ready for such a drastic step as surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Yes. My heating pad is my new best friend. I hope you are feeling better soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I have also enjoyed a great bit of relief from Biofreeze. I have a spray bottle of it and I spray my shouldered and neck area a couple times a day. Just don't use it WITH a heating pad. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App Thank you! 7. I had surgery last Tuesday, 9/27. I feel more myself today. So much so that I keep pushing the line of overdoing it. I hope you feel better in the next couple of days. Hang in there. ☀️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  9. Thank you! I have researched as much as I could find online. It helps to know this is somewhat normal. I hope I can see some progression of less pain in the next few days. I'm thankful that my sleeve has not had issues. Thanks again for the info. And I hope your stitches feel better soon as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. 5 days. I use a heating pad for some relief. It feels like the kind of neck issues that result from being in a car wreck. The pain meds give me a headache but I may take a half tonight for some sleep. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. My gastric sleeve surgery has been a nonissue for postop problems compared to the crazy pain in my neck and shoulders from the hiatal hernia fix (which never was a problem). Before I left the hospital my surgeon said the neck and shoulder pain is due to him messing with my diaphragm area. Have any of you experienced this? How long did it last? I get a couple of good hours after taking Tylenol but trying to sleep is miserable. It's starting to get me down. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. To make a long background short, every 10 years I've gained at least 20 lbs. After I had my youngest son in 2000 I thought I could lose it. Soon my new baby was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. I remember comforting myself with mash potatoes and gravy from the hospital cafeteria. I had to focus all my strength on him. I never was able to stay below 200 lbs. again. 15 years later I am so happy to say my son is in good health, but my weight kept climbing. After my friend in the Midwest lost weight through bariatric surgery, I told myself I'd try on my own one more time. Although I lost 17 lbs., the cravings returned and so did the weight. So in February I talked to my PCP who was encouraging. I contacted the surgeon's office, met with him in April and my adventure with gastric sleeve began. I didn't lose much weight on my 4 mo. Preop diet, but I did change many food issues in my head. I followed the liquid preop diet to a t and lost 15 lbs. So a month after my 54th birthday with a HW of 245 and surgery day weight of 228, I headed into the OR. My surgery was Tuesday, 9/27. The sleeve part of surgery has not been painful compared to the hernia repair he did. The surgeon said my neck and shoulders are sore because he had to mess with my diaphragm. I feel like I have whiplash, but heat helps. It has been a distraction from any incision soreness. I stayed one night in the hospital. They were all amazed at my quick progress, but I was determined to get out and progress. Last night the pain meds made me feel sick. So I'm trying other ideas for my neck and shoulders. sleeping is the biggest challenge. I've been thankful for this site. I knew to walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip! And to remember chapstick for the hospital. I've taken two weeks off work and hope that my strength will be back by 10/10. So I'm setting small goals each day. Today my goal was to log my liquid and liquid Protein. It is tough to get it in, but I can tell that logging it helps. Seeing the numbers I can keep pushing myself to get it in. Tomorrow's goal is to get up and move around at least a dozen times as long as I feel up to it. I'm proud of myself for doing this. I've mentioned in a couple of posts that my 80 y/o mother is my biggest cheerleader through this. Her mind is sharp, but her body hurts from carrying so much weight over the years. She wants better for me. And I do too! I'll work on getting up the courage to post pictures along the way.☀️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I lost 15 lbs. My surgeon told me he wanted me to lose 10-12 lbs. I was surprised on Tuesday before surgery when they told me 15. But I did not lose prior to the liquid diet, so that probably made a difference. My liquid diet included a few servings of sugar free Jello, pudding, etc. I stayed on the diet very strictly. 14. When I started my preop liquid diet my partner started feeling "lonely." A lot of our time spent together after work was eating out. Change is scarier to some people than others. Just hang in there and stick to your goals. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  16. Tomorrow I report to the hospital at 6 am to be sleeved. I spent time today getting a pep talk from a colleague who had the surgery a year ago. I have family support. Now I just need to suck it up and lunge forward. Nervous but excited at the same time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Best wishes to you on 9/26! I'm one day behind on 9/27. Almost there! ❤️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. My surgery is 9/27. This Tuesday. I have had a couple of people ask if there isn't some other way to do this. But a couple of key people have been super supportive. My mother is 80 and has struggled her whole life with her weight. She knows I need to do this NOW. I was so touched tonight by a text from my future daughter in law saying that she is excited for me and the new life I'm about to begin. Hold on to the support and brush the rest off. 19. I admire you for going through all this and looking after two young children! Reading it made me quit my own whining about my liquid preop diet! take it a day at a time. Like I keep telling myself, feelings don't last forever. You can do this but ask for help to get you through. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. My doctor requires unjury. I like it better than expected. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Agreed. My surgeon requires Unjury for pre op liquid diet. Chocolate is good with skim milk. The plain is good in cold decaf coffee--almost tastes like a brand name coffee drink. The strawberry sorbet is okay. I will order more Unjury for post op next week. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
