Lapband slippage opinions...
Oh yeah, I was also going to mention that my doctor gave me RX sea sick patches to prevent throwing up at all...he told me to use it if I ever got the stomach flu, or food poisoning, or anything that could possibly make me throw up, so put one on behind my ear. And same goes with the fills as well. He said alot of people think that the tighter they are, the more weight they will lose, where in fact if you are too tight, you will be vomiting alot, which in turn causes band slippage...

Lapband slippage opinions...
I have seen a similar thread as the one I am posting, but mine is a bit different. I would like to know what everyone's surgeon's told them about what causes the band to slip. I know there are different theories, and would like to see what all is out there. Please understand I am just curious and thought other people might be as well, but I am not suggesting anyone go against their surgeon's orders! As for me, my surgeon basically told me that lots of vomiting is pretty much the only thing that would make my band slip. And that's excluding any type of unrelated health problems or anything like that.

Itchy...
Couldn't really find a thread on this. I am 2 1/2 weeks out, and a few of my incisions are SUPER itchy. And it's like a deep itch..if that makes sense. :confused2: My guess would be it's just in the healing process, but I just wanted opinions from everyone else who has been banded. Thanks my band peeps!

I'm nuts...
thank you both so much for your responses. i never realized how much i TRULY depended on food as my "drug of choice". i live and take care of two adults with developmental disabilities, and naturally it is an emotional rollercoaster in this type of situation. and so at night the habit i started forming over the past couple of years, is as soon as they go to bed around 8 or 9, that that is my time. and i used that time to watch tv, unwind, and of course eat. so anywho...im in for a challenge, and i think when i start exercising and get a couple of fills under my belt, and start attending OA meetings, maybe it will make it easier to get my head in the right place. but thank you both for your replies...

I'm nuts...

I'm nuts...
Hi everyone- I am in need of some advice. I was banded 3/27, and so obviously I have no restriction yet. I hope what I am about to explain makes sense to all my bandster peeps. I am having huge anxiety about getting a fill. Because of the fact that I have no restiction, I am able to eat pretty much anything, and I have been doing more emotional eating in the past few days than I have in a looong time. And it scares me to think about after having my fills I can't do that anymore. Which in turn is why I got the band in the first place to have control over portions and eliminating emotional eating for the most part. Are these feelings another reason they call it BANDSTER HELL??? Or am I just nuts? I am so stressed and upset with myself, and I never realized how much power emotional eating had over me.

Mushy stage
i am almost 2 weeks out, and from beginning of pre-op diet to now, i have lost about 7 lbs. its depressing, but as the people on here have said, and my doctors office, and all the info on this website, there isnt a real reason why, but alot of people dont lose weight until they get a fill. know that you arent alone in that depressing fact, but also know that it will change. so hang in there, eat as healthy as you can now, and things will get better!

Pin up Shoto Shoot??
holy crap... what an inspiration. this is what i have been planning on doing when im at goal. thanks for sharing with everyone! cant wait to see more!
-
How did you decide on a goal weight?
i went by my BMI. 150 pounds for my height and age is "ideal" which would mean i need to lose right around 120 lbs. but i will be happy once i reach 100 lb loss

Banded two years; Going on Nutri-System
yeah i went on nutrisystem for about 2 months. i lost about 10 lbs, and was gagging on the food and gagging on the $500 grocery bill i was paying for MYSELF alone. plus, i dont know that you would get the full benefits from it because their "claim to fame" is that not only do you eat their meals, but you have add-ons (hence the $500 grocery bill) and they want you to eat like 5-6 times a day. which with the band, thats really not how we are supposed to be eating. i personally dont recommend nutrisystem for numerous reasons, but as they say, different strokes for different folks!! good luck!!!

Reality check...
So I am going on two weeks out...slowly entering bandster hell. And here is what I am learning about myself. I am totally emotionally eating. More and more everyday. I am not hungry enough to be eating like I do. So my question is- when you start getting fills, and the more and more restriction you get, is it possible to emotional eat? As in to keep eating when you are good and full? Any advice would be very well appreciated. And please only helpful comments:biggrin:...I am beating myself up enough as it is!

Lap Band and the "Stomach Flu"
what RX did your doctors call in for you suzanneg and ljs69? my doctor has told me to ALWAYS have a Rx sea-sick patch with me so if someone close to me has the flu, or i get food poisoning, or whatever, i put the patch on immediately so i can prevent throwing up. they actually put the patch on me the day of surgery and had me wear it and replace it twice after my surgery. the patch is called "scalopamine" or something. anywho, im curious to know what your dr has given you!

excited?? not.
hehe Jena- the saying goes, "you can wish in one hand, and shit in the other, and whatever hand gets fuller faster is your answer." or at least thats the way i was always told it as a child!!! i say do whatever you need to do to make YOU excited about this surgery. i have never been so happy about anything in my entire life, and i have only lost 8 lbs. and the first few days after surgery can be a little rough, and the last thing you need is added stress! maybe you need to rethink what situation would be better for you, tell your parents what you think is best, and hope that they will understand. i wish the best of luck to you!
-
Please tell me how much you lost on your 2 week pre-op liquid diet.
i was put on a low carb, 10 day diet, and lost about 2 lbs.
-
Clothing sizes
one thing i have noticed is that the clothes that were too tight to begin with, now just fit good. ive always thought that ya kinda linger a little bit in your old sizes, and then bam, 10 lbs later your down two sizes!! and it doesnt help that some stores' size 18 is another stores' size 16! so maybe think about if the clothes that still fit were a little on the snug side before the weight loss?

Question about Band problems
ditto on kbnaz...listen to your doctor and what HE says. i was like you when i first started. but every doctor is different in the way he/she practices, and you just need to make sure you follow his orders to a T. and remember to breathe! its going to be ok... i am only a week out, and i already think this is the bes thing i have ever done.

Burping
im exactly 1 week post op, and i am still experiencing some gas pain and i have a hard time making it come out of either end...hehehe. but its defientely is getting better.

Birth Control after Lap Band
well i took my last BC pill the day before surgery. (and so that means i started my period 1 day after my surgery...oh the luck!) and i continue just as i always have with my regular pack. but as you can see, all of our doctors told up different things, so make sure you talk to your doctor about it, and just take what we say as advice. good luck!!

diet disaster since Easter
sounds exactly like you need a fill! im not far behind you as far as going though that stage of no restriction. but know that its normal, and just try to make some better choices for food like salads, grilled chicken, etc, until your fill :huh2: i have already gotten my house ready for 2-3 weeks down the road when im super hungy so i dont get weak and i have good healthy choices to choose from. good luck!!!

6 days post-op...itchy port...
I couldn't find a thread that could answer my question. I'm 6 days post-op, and my port is really itching. It's still a little sore, but mostly itchy. I am assuming it's just in the healing process, but I just wanted to see if there were other people that had itchiness too!
