No, Matt you're right. She posted this expecting everyone to trash me and she ended up not getting much sympathy. I knew she'd made up her mind but who knows? maybe after what everyone else said, she will at least check out lapbandtalk and that's all I wanted.

Repost from OH-- I wasn't being rude or trying to rain on her parade--just wanted her to come check out this site. Here is her post: "I have been letting everyone know that I am a bit nervous about my upcoming surgery and I appreciate everyones advice and words of encouragement. However, today someone sent me the following email through this site that I found offensive. "Stacy I don't mean to scare you but I strongly suggest NOT having surgery in MX; there have been several women on lapbandtalk.com with band erosions and all had their surgery with mx doctors; 1 or 2 of the erosions were Dr. Ortiz's patients. Erosion is a serious complication requiring removal of the band. Good luck" First of all, erosion happens. It even happens to patients in the US. My doctor is a leading world expert in Lap Band. He has trained MANY American doctors and was taught himself by the inventor of the Band Dr. Belachew. When a Doctor performs over 3000 procedures, there are bound to be some erosions. I guess I am just aggrivated because I have enough going through my head right now, like not gaining any more weight and I feel that an email trying to scare me about my doctor was very rude. If she's had wls, she would hide it b/c she has been anti wls in the past.

Is vertical gastrectomy the same as BPD/gastric sleeve?

The DS surgery makes ppl stink:huytsao , but this can happen with RNY also and may have to do with severely reduced caloric intake--there are even some pills (brand name Devrom) that are sold as an "internal deodorant"

Gastritis can cause back pain along with reflux; a woman who used ot post here had the same symptoms as you and the dr.s never got to the bottom of it; I am convinced there was something wrong with the placement or that the surgeon left an instrument inside her:eek: I hope you figure out what the problem is:cry

p.s. if you havn't had sex ask the gyn to use the PEDIATRIC speculum on you, otherwise she may not be able to examine you at all.

Definately go to the Dr.! Sounds like you may have a fibroid or other growth that will have to come out.

Thank you both. Kathy you are just a peach!:-D As I said, I will hold out for the endoscopy, but dr. says they have never had an erosion and that he has taken care of erosions from other dr.s I am so shocked that it may be too tight b/c everything goes down so easily!

Dr. said he doesn't think my band has slipped--it is probably too tight and that is causing the reflux. Then he told me the problem is not my fault as I have done so well with the band. I can't imagine why I was afraid to see him--I somehow thought is WAS my fault. I am scheduled for an upper GI on 1/11 and will ask for an endoscopy to diagnose and ulcer. Can't believe I am too tight since my last fill was only too 1.75:cry --I'm beginning to think I may never lose those last 20lbs.

Actually mx dr.s do not proctor u.s. dr.s anymore--except during the band fda trials--this is according to Dr. Trace Curry.

I agree. Most ppl I know with port infections have had them right from the outset. Erosion could not possibly happen at this speed. BTW where are all my posts?

Thanks Penni. I hope you heal quickly and consider rebanding with a competent surgeon; I'm glad you didn't listen to your dr. I think I have an ulcer or GERD so I will insist on an endoscopy. Since ulcers are caused by bacteria, I am getting concerned.

I don't see how port issues or stitches can cause an erosion--don't see the connection. Does it mean that an infection triggers the erosion? How would an ulcer contribute?

But then what happens when you lose wt and the fat disappears on its own?

Thanks. I am 2yrs out and NEVER had heartburn until now.

I have had pain where my band is and am having heartburn everyday. Sometimes there's a strange feeling in my port. My restriction has been absent for months. I don't get to see my band dr. until 1/12. In the meantime, my regular dr. can give me something for the heartburn. Reading over the threads it seems like the symptoms match erosion:paranoid :cry If you have eroded or slipped, what, if any, were your symtoms?

Thanks Alex, I was banded 2yrs ago yesterday and, yes, I am very worried lately reading this site. I can count on one hand the instances of heartburn ive had since banding and now I have it everyday. I never would get heartburn--now theres a volcano errupting inside me. P.S. I have hardly vomited since banding, so it would seem to rule out a slip, although maybe there could be a slight one; my restriction(what little I had) has been gone for months--I just wish I could fast foward to my apt 1/12... I was banded stateside and had no port problems or complications so hopefully there is no erosion. I will hold out for an endoscopy, though sounds like it will be an uphill battle. :phanvan
