    Gastric sleeve to gastric bypass

I had the revision surgery from sleeve to bypass a little over a month ago. I stayed one night in the hospital, no real complications to report. Have you gotten a surgery date yet?
  2. Hi everyone! I just wanted to come on here and update you all. I'm a little over a month post op and doing great! In the first week or so after surgery I had a little nausea but it was easily managed with the medication my surgeon gave me. In the last couple of weeks I've had two random incidents after eating eggs. I think it's because I wasn't paying attention and ate too fast but I felt this pressure pain in my chest and immediately knew I needed to throw up because I could feel the food stuck in my esophagus. Once all the eggs came out I felt fine and so far those are the only issues I've had. My surgeon wanted me to take protonix for a month after surgery, I think that's their standard for all WLS patients and Friday was my last day taking it. I'm still in shock every morning when I wake up without pain in my chest from the reflux. Now that I'm no longer taking the reflux medication I actually feel like it's really gone. I'm so happy! I hope you all are doing really well on you journey, whether pre or post op. :-)
  3. Thank you! I'm in my hospital room now. Surgery went well and I actually feel really good. Little bit of pain here and there but the nurses here are great about keeping me medicated lol
  4. I had the sleeve surgery in April 2017 and I'm scheduled to get RNY on Monday because of GERD also. I remember being sooo excited to get the sleeve, I didn't get nervous at all until I got on the operating table. This time around I'm super nervous and much less excited. I think it's normal to be nervous and not so excited about having to get another operation. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this to prevent some serious damage to my esophagus later down the line and it will be freaking awesome to be able to lay flat when I sleep for a change.

    May bypass

I'm right there with you, this reflux is the worst. I'm having revision surgery on Monday and I'm much more nervous this time around than when I got sleeved. At this point I'm ready to get the surgery over with so that I can have some relief from the heartburn.
  6. @Jon_gets_skinny How are you doing? How did everything go with your surgery? My surgery is just under 3 weeks away and this is my second one (being revised to bypass from sleeve) and I am so nervous.

    May bypass

That was my experience with the sleeve too. I never had heartburn before surgery, and it was in full force afterwards. My surgeon told me that if I still needed to take the reflux medication a year post op that I should make an appointment to see him. I was so stubborn and didn't want to have to get another surgery so I suffered through almost another year of really bad reflux. Finally 3 months ago I decided enough was enough. I had to go through some awful awful tests to give my surgeon enough info to recommend the revision surgery. I just hope after all this I can finally get some relief. Hopefully you won't still have the reflux after a year out but if you do just be prepared to possibly have to go through another surgery. This might help you down the line if you're doubting getting the surgery, I have to keep reminding myself of the bigger picture here because if I don't get the surgery to fix this then that acid will more than likely do some serious damage to my esophagus (more than it already has).

    May bypass

I just got my surgery date last week. I'll be getting the revision from sleeve to bypass also. My date is May 13th. I'm way more nervous about the surgery this time around.
  10. I'm currently waiting for a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I'll be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass for severe GERD at Kaiser Richmond. Look me up on Instagram if you all want to keep in touch there. I have a personal and a WLS account, here's both: bubbz333 (personal) & vsgbubbz (WLS). I'm much more nervous about the surgery this time around so it would help to have some people to talk to that are going through the same thing.
  11. Thank you so much for your reply. I was on the fence about the revision surgery until I found out the exact results from the 24 pH test I had to do to test how bad the acid is in my stomach and that really solidified my decision. I guess the normal range is less than 14.92 something and mine was 104.9! I couldn't believe it and it has already done some damage to my esophagus. I also have problems sleeping because of the reflux. I'm so happy that you have relief from all of that. I'm excited to hopefully be rid of this reflux soon.
  12. I have been going through the process for this because of GERD too. I heard from my surgeon today after having a bunch of tests done to figure out just how bad the acid is and what kind of damage it has done. Basically my only 2 options are to stay on Protonix forever or have the bypass surgery. The medication doesn't work all day for me and I don't really want to be on this medicine long term so I'm leaning towards the revision to bypass but it's still scary. I'm waiting for a call for the surgery department to set up a surgery date. To those of you that have already had the revision surgery, how are you recovering? Did you notice a difference with your acid reflux?

    Burning Reflux - Horrible

I was told by my surgeon to stop taking the antacid meds at 1 month then 2 weeks later I had awful acid reflux like you described so he put me back on the medicine and it's a lot better now but not completely gone. One thing to note is the position you are sleeping in. I noticed that the reflux is a million times worse if I'm not sitting up when I sleep. I have accepted the fact that I may never sleep laying flat again and I even went out and purchased one of those adjustable beds so I didn't have to sleep on the couch anymore. So if you're sleeping flat then try propping yourself up at night with some pillows and that will most likely help.
  15. Hi everyone. I am just over 3 weeks post op right now and I'm curious if any of you started running or jogging for exercise after surgery and when you started doing so. I'm a runner (I love it) I have not been running for a couple months and I'm really missing it now. I would like to start back up soon but not sure when would be a good time. My doctors office said I could resume a regular fitness regime at 2 weeks post op just no heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks. Thanks in advance for the advice! Surgery 1 week from today

My surgery is right after yours (on Monday). I'm getting really excited and nervous as well. It's like a roller coaster of emotions. A lot of the advice I've gotten is to walk walk walk as much as you can right after surgery. I just hope that I won't be too loopy and out of it after surgery. I've also read not to over pack because a lot of people don't even use half the stuff they take to the hospital but I over pack every time I go anywhere, it's just what I do. Where are you having your surgery done?
  20. I made sure to have a lot of those little 2oz plastic cups (for jello shots) because that will be the standard meal size I'll be having for a loooong time. I didn't stock up on too much food because I was told my taste buds would change. I did get a couple boxes of the sugar free Popsicles and sugar free pudding. I actually just posted a youtube video on my shopping haul if you want to take a look at it. Hope this helps!!
