  1. I had what I think was a banner 6 month post-op experience. Lost 101 pounds from the day of surgery (plus 44 pounds pre-op) then things changed. I only lost 5 pounds in the past 30 days. Anyone else hit a wall right after 6 months ???
  2. So it works for me !
  3. I've done 2 of the 5 day pouch tests since the first of the year. I lost 6+ pounds each time. This after 9-12 months post surgery.
  4. My surgery was a week later on July 27th.

    Considering Gastric Sleeve

Yes yes and yes. I know the feeling all too well. I can't stress this enough - learn all you can ! I actually went to 2 different seminars and Trolled this and every other Bariatric web site and You Tube channel over the course of 6 months or so before I decided to go through with it. I wish you the best. I reached out to several folks on here along the way so please feel free to message me if you have any questions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Considering Gastric Sleeve

Walter. I was 55 last July 27th when I had GBP surgery. Before surgery, like you I was deathly afraid of the anesthesia and convinced I would not wake up. I also thought that at 469 pounds in May of last year - this probably wouldn't work for me. Because I wanted pizza and fries and junk food. Often ! And I was afraid, yes afraid of not being able to eat what I wanted. Ask yourself this question - do you REALLY want your life to change ? Because that's all that will keep you alive. In another decade or so you will be pushing 500 lbs. like I was. With the same issues as you and practically confined to a chair. Thinking about leaving (not on a vacation) my wife and kids. A sober thought indeed. Here's the good news. Like several suggested - I got some counseling. I trusted in the doctors that checked me from head to toe before the operation, and I decided once and for all - I want to live !!! I'm closing in on being 6 months post-op and weighing in at 330 lbs. that's 139 lbs. in 8 months. I expect that by in another 2 months I will be in the 200's. It's been almost 30 years since I've been under 300 lbs. and Walter I feel amazing !!! I'm healthy and happy and only wish I had done this at YOUR age. Learn all you can - and then I think you will see there is only one real decision to be made. Save your life !!!

  10. bgjon - I was the day after you. My protein and fluid intakes, like yours are right where they should be. I started just a few pounds below you at 425 and have lost 41 pounds. But guess what ? I'm in a stall too. Actually gained a 1/4 pound since last Thursday. Like you the scale mocks me !!!! But all the comments on here make sense. Update us when you break the stall and I'll do the same !!!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. I also had RNY (7/27) and gained 9 pounds before leaving the hospital. The good news is within the first week I lost that 9 and another 2. Best of luck - welcome to the losers bench !!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Ok so I had a very smooth first 2 weeks post-op with very little pain and no referred gas anywhere. Today, out of nowhere, I have very sharp pain on the tip of my left shoulder that comes and goes. For those of you who experienced shoulder pain right after surgery was it like that ? 13. Best of luck jenjenp - FYI the shoulder issue cleared up quickly after an extended visit to the restroom Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Yes I'm a back/side sleeper but only my right side. I noticed through the day today that the pain comes after eating so I'm chalking it up to gas. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Crossing the Dunes

What better view could there be at a Jersey shore vacation rental right ? Now look closely, you will see the barricade. What ? You only see the dunes and some flimsy fences ? That's the obesity boundary. It keeps me here on the deck while the "normal" people are on the beach. Oh I know there are plenty of fatties down there (maybe not too many my size with a 63 BMI) but I'm somehow different than them. Something keeps me here. It probably wouldn't be worth it for me to go down anyway. It wouldn't be comfortable. Physically it would be agonizing to get there. Then I'd have to plop myself on a blanket because let's face it there aren't beach chairs for me. All the while I would have to pretend countless eyes were not fixed on me wondering why I was there. Ok I get it - overly dramatic I know. But the dunes are a metaphor to me. A hurdle I have to get over, since its been almost 25 years since I've enjoyed a day on the beach. This pre-op journey has stolen many hours of sleep from me. I fret over wether I'm making the right decision at 55 years old. I'm fearful I may not survive the surgery. I fantasize I'll be the first person the "method" doesn't work for. And I dread gaining back the weight if it does. Soon I'll have a surgery date. I bet I don't get any sleep then. I swear I try to focus on the positives. I tell myself this will be the last time I sit up here and watch as my family crosses the dunes and goes down "there". But my mind isn't letting me believe it just yet. It's as if I got myself to this point and my head is making me pay the price by allowing me to think I am stuck like this for whatever limited time I have left. I've had plenty of therapy so I realize my logical mind is disconnected from my emotional mind. I just hope they can get together in time for this surgery and before the 2017 beach season. Surgery yesterday

Congratulations. I am one week out. If I could share three things they would be - walk, walk, walk. I walked every two hours in the hospital and the last dose of pain meds I took was in the hospital before I left. Nothing crazy, just once or twice around ward. Best of luck !!! Crossing the Dunes

1 week in the books (feels like a year LOL). Had my follow up with the surgeon and thankfully everything is going good. Still a little swollen in the feet but he isn't concerned with that. I came out of the hospital + 10lbs - that's gone plus 2 more. I'm officially on my way !!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Crossing the Dunes

The walking has proved to be key in the past 72 hours. The gas is no joke although I didn't have any in the shoulder as many report. I haven't needed any pain Meds since the morning of the second day. My first full day at home and my only issue is getting in the fluids. It's tough but I found a timer app that goes off every xx minutes to remind me to drink. Throat is still a little sore but nothing like that first day. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
