  1. Weekly weigh-ins for me. I think daily would mess with my head too much and could be possibly de-motivating for me.
  2. @@russtee I don't know what food stage you are currently on, but for me, anything that was too dry had that effect. So, runny purees, then soft food with lots of sauces or stock. Just moist food. I reacted badly to a too dry scrambled egg, got stuck in the middle of my oesophagus, got horrible burning, and then had to run to the bathroom. Other drier foods used to give me reflux, so even now I make sure my food is moist. And as others said, small bites and chew well. Good luck.
  3. The loud gurgling noises my stomach makes after a meal, especially when in company, and the burps I never had when pre op, but now are frequent companion. I am almost 6 months post op and hoping this will settle down ...... Funny though, after yoghurt Breakfast I don't have all these noises, only after a heavier Protein meal, like chicken, turkey or veal for dinner, even fish ..... I eat slowly, chew well, don't drink with meals (30 and 30 min rule) and it doesn't help. Don't like sounding like a burping, gurgling bath tub!
  4. Wow, what an awesome change! You look fantastic! Congratulations and well done !!!
  5. Best to ask your doctor/nut. I had to see my nut at every food stage change. For me it was every 2 weeks. It may also depend how well/not well you tolerate each stage. Listen to your body and observe how you are doing, any extra noises, any reflux or indigestion, what really agrees with you, are you hungry, etc Then you can discuss it with your nut. Good luck.
  6. @@madadams You look fabulous! Well done Yes, 6 months really shows the results. I myself have about 10 days to my 6 month surgiversary, and I love the changes too. It works, and it is worth it!
  7. I eat Chobani Greek low fat yoghurt with added Protein powder, this gives me 33g of Proteins for Breakfast. I also add grated 1/4 apple to it, bit of cinnamon and vanilla essence. It tastes great and I love it. I used to have Vaalia natural yoghurt prior my op, but Chobani yoghurt has tripple amount of protein, so I switched.
  8. I had to switch to Nexium from rabeprazole. My reflux was really bad. Nexium really worked for me, and now 5 months later I am slowly weaning myself of it, and so far I have been fine. I am now taking it every 3 days, then 4 etc I will still refill my scripts, and keep it for emergencies. Good luck!
  9. It is easy for me now. I can now guzzle water, drink large quantities of liquids, close to 6 months post op. Earlier on I wasn't able to, now I can.
  10. I drink 2 large cups of brewed coffee, then later on I switch to decaf. So about 4-6 cups all up. I weaned myself of Equal, as it was creating sugar cravings for me and messing with my blood sugar levels. I use Stevia now, and add milk to my coffees.
  11. @@Nadi884 I had it really bad post op, even woke up few times coughing up and choking on burning acid. The initial med, rabeprazole did not help. For me, I also had bad acid attacks at every food phase change, even though I was eating/drinking/chewing slowly. Nexium was the only PPI that helped me, and got rid of acid. Now, 5 months later, I am slowly weaning myself of Nexium, and so far no acid reflux. Good luck to you! You just maybe the lucky one who does not get it post op.
  12. @@ajg91342 Great, that's good to hear that your doctor suggested the same. And you too, please, let us know how you go. Good luck!
  13. @@Dub Oh you poor thing! It is bad enough to have burps after a meal in company, let alone getting them while giving a presentation ..... My Water bottle is practically glued to my hand, it goes with me everywhere. Good wake up call, and I am glad the cravings for more sodas did not come back for you!
  14. @@judy vsg Yes, being hyper kept my weight off for most of my life, but it turned 2 years ago, while still hyper and I had a massive, rapid weight gain. I became one of those 5% hyperthyroid sufferers that gained weight! I did not like my shaking hands, the sweats and feeling hot all the time, the irritability, racing pulse, high blood pressure, horrible headaches, muscle spasms, the runs and insomnia. Now, with treatment most of those symptoms disappeared, except insomnia and feeling hot on and off. Thank you for your well wishes.
  15. @@ajg91342 At first, I took it every 1.5 days, as at 2 days first time I had very mild bit of reflux. Did that for nearly a week. Then I took it every 2 days, and I was fine. Now I am trialling every 3 days. So far I am OK. No reflux. If all OK, I will then take it every 4th day, then 5th etc, then 6th, then a week later. I was advised by a member on another forum to do it very slowly, so I am copying her method and watching for any reactions. I will still refill my script and keep it for any emergencies. Good luck!
  16. Nexium worked for me too! Nothing else worked but Nexium. Took it for over 4 months, now I am slowly weaning myself off it. So far so good. Reflux seems to be gone
  17. I use Cruskits with cream and cottage cheese, sometimes add smoked or tinned salmon to them as well. They keep me going for hours. If I have to go somewhere, I have a tiny esky, I put the cheese/salmon mix in it and few Cruskits, plus knife to spread it. Keeps fresh for hours.
  18. @@judy vsg Oh that's great that you have been cleared for 6 years now! That's fantastic. Glad you are well! I have been hyper most of my life, except when I had the RAI treatment. Stable for a while, now back to hyper thyroid with continuous weight loss. One day I'll be stable too. Can't wait ..... tired of being awake at night.
  19. @@Katieisin Yes, definitely relaxing and taking it easy is good. The stomach and the body need to heal, and can't be rushed. As for changes, they do happen, but again they too take time. For me, at 3 months I could see a big change, and now again at 5 1/2 months later, even bigger and better changes. I am doing fine, just not sleeping well, which is a nuisance. Just waiting to see my endo, and my thyroxine dose should be lowered again, I think. I will see her early September. Heal up well, take your time, and before you know it, changes will happen!
  20. Hi @@judy vsg, few of us here with thyroid issues. Welcome to the club I have Graves disease, pain in the butt! However I am hoping for some stability in my thyroid once I reach goal weight. Have only been hypo for 1 month, 4 months after radioactive iodine treatment. Can't wait for my Thyroxine levels to be lowered and stay stable. How are you doing? Hope you are well.
  21. @@Katieisin If not for my thyroid disease, my recovery would have been rather smooth. With the weight loss I am back to hyper thyroid, so back to insomnia and sweats. Need my thyroxine dose adjusted down again. And yes, as aussiegirl mentioned, once on solid foods I started feeling much better. Good luck
  22. I had chocolate at Easter, 3 weeks post op. Well ..... it gave me awful reflux attack and made me so sick, that I haven't touched it since!
  23. Plus I eat Chobani yoghurt every day. I find the Nourex probiotic definitely working for me, it has eased my symptoms.
  24. @@gina171 I am using Nourex Probiotic X50, made in the USA. I find this brand really good.
  25. @@nprcowboy Sorry to hear about your struggles and challenges. I know how awful depression can feel, as I had few in the past. I too lately became severely depressed, about a month ago, due to still recovering from WLS, new job and my father becoming very ill and enormous stress with dealing with his ex wife, and legal matters. In the end, it was like my body said "no more"! "Have a break and time out". I am currently on Effexor 225mg, the highest dose, and am starting to feel better. I know that some anti-depressants can stimulate the appetite, but Effexor doesn't. There is another one, called Valdostan, that does not increase appetite either, and it helps to sleep, but I don't think it is available in the US. Other people mentioned Wellbutrin, that it also doesn't increase the appetite. As it was mentioned before, perhaps you can inquire re your current med, if it increases your appetite. You can also google the info about other meds, and discuss it with your doctor. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon! As depression can be life threatening, I am glad you are getting treatment for it. All the best!
