  1. I know if they are like other doctors, no reason to feel humiliation or embarrassment. Doctors have seen it all. As long as you are continuing to fight this disease called obesity you are a success and not a failure - you just need direction and help with the next steps. you are paying them to look after you. I hope you will come back and tell us how it goes. I find NUTS to be hit or miss in their helpfulness. wishing you all the best with yours.
  2. you know the saying "if I had known I was going to live this long, I woulda taken better care of myself?" well. talk to the doctor about all your options, but please don't rule out surgery as you may live a lot longer than you think, and if you can keep the weight off, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of those years, no matter how many there are.
  3. I have a DEXA scan at the end of the month because I have arthritis in the spine/hips area. this is going to be a baseline I guess.
  4. I had the sleeve and 6 months out no complications. I eat a small portion, Protein first. if I did not tell you I have had surgery you would never know. haven't tried wine yet, I am saving that for November - but if I have to give it up so be it. I'd rather not have diabetes than have a glass of wine. keep searching, you will come to the right decision for you.
  5. if they turned her down for bypass what did they recommend that she do to repair the staples coming undone situation? because that sounds like it would not be good.
  6. I like products similar to spanx. they do not need to be super snug in order to get things moved around enough to avoid problems, so if comfort is more important to you don't worry about that. size up one size. target has a brand that is made by the same company. I also use coconut oil on the fold area - keeps it so that it doesn't get irritated if it rubs skin on skin and I believe helps prevent infections. I use it as a body lotion all over, actually - so it actually helps the same issues under the boobs.
  7. I already had a vitamix that I LOVE. but it is more than you need for bariatric purposes - so if you don't need something that stout for other reasons I think the nutribullet is going to meet needs.
  8. I had the best arms of my life back when I was tossing hay bales up onto a wagon. so, getting a hay bale would be pretty cheap, but you've gotta toss it a lot, and then toss it back down at 5 am and 5 pm. works your core too. I learned to drive a tractor so I could stop tossing up the hay bales - although it didn't get me out of the daily toss down year round.
  9. I was allowed at my one month check up.
  10. I was allowed it after my one month post op check. caffeine allows me to use my grown up manners.
  11. I didn't even know I should feel guilty about that! look, I watch every game I possibly can. the TV is on ALL weekend during football. if there is no game on, I am listening to someone talk about the games. we may end up in rehab together........... naw, that would be a problem for the keepers!
  12. touch down taco dip! I don't have it with chips, but it's just as good eating it off a spoon, and I top it with a favorite salsa
  13. on the weekend I will often put chicken breasts in the crock pot with salt, pepper and garlic and keep the shredded meat in the fridge. it is easy to add different types of seasoning to small amounts of the mix to get different flavors (italian with sauce if you are craving italian, greek seasoning or mexican depending on what you want) I also do the same with a mix of ground turkey breast and ground sirloin. sometimes I portion some out, add black Beans and mexican seasoning toss on some shredded cheese and top it with a small dollop of reduced fat sour cream for a nachos flavor without the chips. I keep several appropriate size containers on hand so I can portion this out on the weekend with different flavors for my lunch meals, so normally when I get ready for my work week I have 5 lunches ready to grab and go and they are all different. for a snack this morning I had half a cup of reduced fat cottage cheese with 1/3 of an apple. very satisfying. if I need a snack this afternoon (I am the late person at work) I have a power crunch chocolate bar, because if we are here late, I am going to need some chocolate.
  14. I often use leaf lettuce. at 6 months out I occasionally use a low carb tortilla wrap. but usually it's just the lettuce. sometimes I take a thin slice of ham, a thin slice of swiss cheese and wrap it around steamed asparagus, and then cut the roll in half. that's pretty yummy. can add a thin smear of mustard if you like. if it's egg salad or something like that I just eat it with a fork.
  15. oh cheese CURDS (not fried) are so good to me! I have to limit how many I buy at the store so I will run out before I have eaten too many. and I MUST portion them out into single serving sandwich bags or I will eat the whole lot - it may take me half a day but I will. and then I will pay the price of eating too much cheese later on. so - sort them into servings is what I do.
  16. sometimes, when I am homesick, or the world feels like a dark place, I play Christmas music - no matter what time of year it is.
  17. this has not been a problem for me - but I can see where it could be.
  18. a ketogenic or strict low carb diet would be < 20 per day - but my plan which is considered regular low carb would be <60 per day. some people are on that strict low carb ketogenic diet, but other people have a bariatric team that prefers a more balanced approach to dietary needs.
  19. a full banana is not going to be 4 tbs. there are good people who get confused about measurements. however, a 1/4 of a cup of mashed banana was on my soft foods plan. they are not the devil, or equal to oreo Cookies.
  20. put chicken breasts in the crock pot for a few hours. juicy, tender, flavorful. and can add different seasonings after the fact to have more flavor variety in your diet.
  21. a quick look tells me the banana has three times the Fiber of the Cookies and what, more than 8 times the potassium? I have been recommended by my nut to sometimes add 1/3 of a banana to my shake. Never ever has she said add a few oreos to your shake. none of us got fat by eating too many bananas/ but oreos? probably. you can not equate a whole food with processed junk.
  22. I hope you are able to get the surgery! I have probable mild lymphoma so I had to jump through a LOT of hoops and delays before finally having my VSG performed and I know how maddening it can be.
  23. I am so glad it's 20 pounds - and will be watching to see how you do with your progress. my dad died unexpectedly this summer too, and I know how it can throw you off balance.
  24. you may not be eating enough. Please, if you have a NUT go over your requirements with her - or get with a La Leche person. I nursed all 7 of my babies, it was the best diet I was ever on.
