  1. I struggled with the decision, but opted with the bypass. My surgeon supported my decision. The esophageal manometry showed that I'd be okay with the sleeve, but I didn't wanna chance the reflux. Dr said I may have a hiatal hernia that didn't show up causing reflux. Either way it will be fixed. Bypass it is! I'm waiting for my insurance to approve at this moment. Dawnie_doo
  2. I've already met my deductible. Coinsurance should also be met by the time of surgery. I'm getting bills up to wazoo Lol but nothing required upfront. Dawnie_doo
  3. Hello everyone, Today was my last nutrition appt and this week, probably tomorrow, my information will be submitted to Aetna. I did all that I was supposed to do. Now I'm simply praying that all goes as planned. My only jitters are about the surgery itself Advice? Input? Thoughts? Lol Dawnie_doo
  4. It really depends. My doctor stated that the lower BMIs need to have medical concerns, which you do. So your insurance company will hopefully recognize that. Dawnie_doo
  5. @@joyfulinga, I honestly feel like you're me! Lol I'm pre op. I had to ask for a seat belt extender. I was mortified, particularly because my husband was there. Smh I'm awaiting my last appointment before submitting to insurance. Thank you for sharing. It helps me, even before surgery. God bless you! Dawnie_doo
  6. Popsicle brand is yummy! I actually prefer the tropical flavors lol Dawnie_doo
  7. Same here, acid reflux and diabetes. Leaning toward the gastric bypass. Dawnie_doo
  8. I'm waiting for approval, then scheduling. I'm going to Jamaica in May. I will not schedule my surgery before then! If I were you, I would wait. I got very sea sick on my last cruise due to the excessive bumpy ride. I would not combine that with surgery, sips of Water, and an empty stomach. Just my thoughts!
  9. Welcome! You're experience is encouraging for me! I'm pre op. I know everyone is different, but I'm praying for a positive recovery. Dawnie_doo
  10. I had to look up the procedure. The surgeons office mentioned a scope. Now I am thinking that is what they were talking about. Sent from my SM-T330NU using the BariatricPal App @@bac2u This was definitely the scope they mentioned. Gagging wasn't the word! I felt like I was choking. I was only supposed to swallow on command. Of course, with a long scope through my nose and into my esophagus and stomach, I swallowed as a reflex. Each time I did that the test started over. Ugh! 1 hr 15 mins later I was done. By the way, it was only a 20-35 min test! Smh Dawnie_doo
  11. @@phuckyourtruth thank you for your openness. I needed to hear what you said. I'm pre op and really nervous about all of this. I've asked myself the same questions...what's wrong with me that I didn't or couldn't just exercise and eat right. Smh I'm moving forward, praying the entire time. I'm praying for you as well. I need this change to live a complete life. I don't want to die early. I'm willing to push through, even with tears. God bless you! Dawnie_doo
  12. I'm doing what's stated above. In addition, I'm doing the emotional work now. I'm refusing myself those things I want now so I'm not in shock after surgery. I feel like it's life or death for me. chips, a burger, or a piece of cake can't get in the way Lol I'm joking but very serious! It's a tough thing to do, but it's forcing me to acknowledge the reasons that I haven't refused excess unhealthy food in the past. It's a head thing. I'm putting in the work now. Dawnie_doo
  13. I have GERD. I had to have an esophageal manometry completed to see if the reflux was too bad to have the sleeve. That was the worst test ever, but I'd rather have that then increased reflux after the sleeve. I'm still waiting on results. Dawnie_doo
  14. Congrats! Awesome news! Keep up the good work! Dawnie_doo
  15. I can see the points of everyone in this thread. I think those who shared the dangers of not following the post op nutrition plan were doing so out of care and concern, albeit, in a blunt and direct manner. The seriousness of dying to these surgeries is a reality! Either complications will arise, or one could be back in their doctor's office a couple years later because they regained the weight. I've seen it happen, the deaths, and the unsuccessful surgeries! It's nothing to play with! Yet and still, the best way to reach others is with a caring heart. Let's be sensitive to the words that we use. I'm sure we all have had a moment where we were offended because someone "could've said it better". I applaud everyone who embarks on this journey, struggles and all! It's truly a difficult and trying experience. It will test every strength that you thought you had! Be encouraged everyone! To those who are successful, congrats! To those still struggling, I get it, and my heart is with you. Reconsider counseling if you must, but PLEASE be healthy! Your life depends on it! Be blessed everyone! Dawnie_doo
  16. This is why I strongly believe that the counseling should continue after the surgery. If I run into those emotional issues after my surgery I'm definitely going back to the lady that did my pre op evaluation. Dawnie_doo
  17. OMG I share the same fear. I know two people that passed away after a bypass. Smh but who knows what they did to bring about complications. It wasn't right away, but it surely happened. I'm pre op and trust me, I may cry my way through it, but I'm sticking to their instructions! Dawnie_doo
  18. Haha I think mine will be a diva too. Lol hilarious! Dawnie_doo
  19. Beautiful then, beautiful now! Congrats to you! Awesome! Dawnie_doo
  20. Wow! This is truly inspiration for me! I'm kinda close to your beginning weight now. I looked at those early pics and saw me. I looked at your post op pics and saw my possibilities! We kinda look alike too Lol I'm excited! Lol Thanks for sharing! Dawnie_doo
  21. Wow! Sexy lady watch out! Lol Congrats! Dawnie_doo
  22. That's awesome! Congrats! Dawnie_doo
  23. Welcome! I'm fairly new as well, about 1 month in the forum. I'm in the pre op stage. Congrats on your progress thus far! Dawnie_doo
  24. I recently had an esophageal manometry, and it was by far the worst test that I've endured! I had to have 10 consecutive uninterrupted swallows. The numbing spray wore off half way through the test, which was painful. My test lasted for about 1 hr 15 mins because I couldn't get 10 consecutive sips and swallows without the intermittent swallows by nature. Smh I felt like I was choking the entire time! My RN was extremely nice and considerate, which helped, a little. Yet and still, I will NOT have that test again! I'm currently awaiting results to determine whether or not the sleeve or bypass would be most appropriate. Dawnie_doo
