Change?
ousooner, I ay have misread, but when you use the "new posts" feature, it doesn't show for you what forum the posts are in? When I use it, it's right there in the car column, and (to/IMO) the asterisks added to the title, and restating of the title's purpose, make it clear that it's not about the lap-band. As a user of RNR, what i wouldn't like about this is -- I use "new posts" all the time, and want to see all new posts, including RNR posts. Given a choice, I'd rather not have to make a special trip to the forum to find the messages. I access 98% of what I read via new posts. So you have to consider both sides of the issue. And for me, anything someone posts here would never help nor hinder my ability to offer them advice on any other part of the board. I operate a sort of "What happens in RNR stays in RNR" approach. Then again I would very, very rarely take anything here personally, but that's my personality type. But that's user Wheetsin, not moderator Wheetsin, and doesn't in any way indicate that suggested changes will or will not occur.

in laws are coming to town - what to do??
Why tell them any quantity? If it comes up, and you say anything at all, just say, "I'm not really sure, I haven't been weighing because I'm more focused on how I feel than what I weigh." That was me at one point. And then I realized - it's not like no one knew I was 200 lbs overweight because I never said it. We have similar stats so you're probably in a position similar to where I was. I tell people how much I've lost and it's funny to see the looks on their faces (undoubtedly some are thinking - Holy crap you fat cow, you've lost more than I've ever weighed!) and hear, That's an entire person!!! Ayup, I know, and I'm not done yet...

OMG! Scared doctor will reprimand me?
Honest question. *IF* your doctor does think those things, so what? What does it mean to you, for him to think that? Why are you drinking our meals? What are you drinking? Since you aren't weighing, do you have any reason to believe you've gained weight? Are you restricted?

Restaurant & Airport Courtesy for Lap-Band People
I have the restaurant card but haven't even thought of using it. I don't see why I should get a reduced price because I have a band. I mean, I wouldn't go in and say "I'm not that hungry, can you only give me half the food and only charge me half the price?" Nor would I ever say, "I'm on a diet and want to order just a part of this meal and I expect you to discount it accordingly." I either get a regular entree and make several meals out of it, or go with a soup. Think twice before ordering off the childrens' menu, most of those are low quality, poor nutrition items. As for the airport, I've probably taken about 30ish flights since being banded. I set off one alarm, and the wand did target the area of my port. But I never needed to show them a card. I just told them I had a medical implant, they pulled me aside for the wand, etc., and then I was cleared. As for wording don't remeber offhand. Nothing abouot "give them a discount." Just something like, so and so has had an adjustable gasstric band placed and can only eat 2 - 4 ounces at a time. Then has my surgeon's info.

For teachers and students
I have a question for teachers, this may show my ignorance for your world. And I don't mean any of this as "bragging," it's just the sequence of events that unfolded and left me curious. I'm working on my 2nd master's, scheduled to finish Fall 08. In both programs I kind of did my own thing. Never really got "into" the conversations, and approached everything with my cynic's eye. In both programs I had professors encourage me to publish my writings (papers I submitted for class, etc.) I never took them seriously, even though they said "I'm being serious." I just never figured my stuff was good enough, and they were being nice or something. I just got off the phone with the coordinator for my current MS. Not a teacher, "just" a coordinator. She asked me what my graduation activity was (for this program we have our choice of final projects - thesis, portfolio, comprehensive exam, or research project -- all of which have oral defense components). I had signed up for the comprehensive exam because a thesis doesn't interest me much, I never considered my projects worthy, etc. Anyway, this coordinator starts going on and on about how good my work is, how I need to start getting my writings published, and specifically how my toolkit was awesome. This struck me as weird. The "toolkit" was a final project for the class that just ended Sunday. I'm taking this program online, so we submit our work and get feedback electronically. Our toolkits were submitted in private areas where (supposedly) only the professor and TA can get to. So I was like, "Oh you saw that?" And she went on and on about it, AND THEN started talking about things I had submitted for other classes, like 2 years ago. So what happens behind the scenes? Are students often talked about? I'm wondering how the heck this lady is familiar with my work, when in theory she should have nothing to do with it and really have never seen it. The project she references for this last semester was something I did in wiki, so my professor could have sent out the link, I guess. Do professors actually "share" student work that way?? I have no idea! But it's kind of bugging me. I feel almost violated in an academic sense. Yes, I'm the kind who doesn't like anyone reading my writing or looking at my art, and I sort of trusted these things stayed between the professor and the student. :tired

Where would I get this stuff?
Oh, yep - big chunks of white chicken (meat is probably the one thing I've never PBed on, I tend to forget sometimes that others have real problems with it).

Where would I get this stuff?
Well, still no idea what it was (is this something from the 80s? If not I won't know it),but I wanna know. And you mention not liking chicken salads other than that one... so I have to recommend the Archer Farms (Target brand) chicken salad. It's made with rotisserie chicken. Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and it is hands-down, no questions asked, the best chicken salad I've ever had. Even better than mom's.

Let's go fem for a bit
Looking for quick/easy beauty tips that make a HUGE difference. Bang for your buck kind of stuff. Here are my tips: Love your eyebrows once a week. Keeping your brows clean & shaped makes a HUGE difference in the whole look of your face. It really is one of those minute makeover things you can do. SO much difference, and SO many women don't even think about it. Do keep nails clean. I mean - eww. And if your nails have a tendency to discolor of go transparent, invest two bucks in a nail whitening pencil. I can't stand acrylic nails, only do my natural ones, and this is one of the best alternative ways to get anything resembling a frenchie. If you have oily skin (me me!), apply a small amount of an acne product all over your face, very lightly, almost like a day foundation. If it overdries you can cut it with a non-oily facial lotion. It has tnothing to do with having acne or not -- they're designed to soak up oil, and will let you have a matte complexion for several hours without any powder.

Heparin Question???
Umm - wow. I was given 1 Heparin shot during the pre-op prep fuss. That shot was a bugger too. Kind of sneaks up on you. I'm not a nurse, but I'm with BB - sounds like it could be a lot. Before my mother went on Coumadin she had "Heparin therapy," but I don't know what her dose was -- less than 1cc though, because I was young and associated cc with "Coumadin Clot"... go figure.

Feet size
Yes, feet get smaller too. I've gone from a 12 wide to a 10 shoe, 11/11.5 heels and sandals. I like the extra half size on anything that isn't enclosed because it helps make sure I don't get that "foot hanging off the shoe" look that even a damn quarter size too small can cause.

Fresh Strawberries
As long as you're OKed for fruit by then, which by my surgeon's list is considered a solid. If you aren't on solids you could always whiz them up with some ice, or juice them.

Well, darn it all
Let me know if you find a fix other than good old patience. I'm on about month 5 of just fluctuating between the same 6 lbs.

Where would I get this stuff?
My curiosity is peaked. Are you sure this is some kind of product purchased this way, and not something the person in the bar made and then just froze to have on hand? It probably wouldn't do too much good to Google it, frozen ham balls would be off the chart.

Depression after surgery?!
Would you classify yourself as an emotional eater? If so, you may well be mourning.
-
What browser do you use?
Mozilla and Firefox separated around 2005 - I think - maybe later. Safari, Firefox, etc. were all once also referred to as Mozilla, but they're actually separate. (The Mozailla suite - I think - currently includes Safari, Konqueror, Gecko, and Netscape).

What browser do you use?
Yes, it should be multiple choice. I intedned it to be, anyway, since I use 3 different ones. *geek*

Another New Skin
Green - The icons don't show in quick reply, but if you "go advanced" - there they will be. Did they used to show in your quick reply mode, or did you maybe somehow default to advanced?

Where would I get this stuff?
Ok, nope - have no idea. But I have activated my spy network and will let you know if I can find anything.

What are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day?
Normally she (and dad) get a trip to Vegas or a chunk of cash to take a trip of their choice. They happened to already be on a trip this year, so it's TBD.

Where would I get this stuff?
Hmm, I'm confused. But I'll help if I can! "Then you'd mix it with mayo and waalahhhhh, instant ham salad." makes me think it's some kind of frozen ham in little balls. But "eggs that were deviled eggs but made with this stuff instead" makes it sound more like mustard/mayo combo, and not ham. But then "lettuce salad with this stuff on top" makes me think it's cheese? Ack! What was it?

financing difficulties
I don't know a whole lot about this, but if you're applying, I don't think his credit would factor in. Is he co-applying? If so tell him to stop. (Sorry just now read other responses and saw this was mentioned)

Post-Op Pain Survey Questions
1. Was your procedure outpatient or did you stay overnight? Outpatient. And a very short one at that. 2. Did you have complications related to surgery? Not a thing. I didn't even have the post-op gas. 3. What you were given for at home pain? How many days did you take it? I was given liquid Lortab. I probably needed it for 2 days, but took it for 4. I wanted to be safe - better to need it and already have it in me, than not need it and have to wait for it to kick in, eh? 4. Pain after surgery for how many days? Pain was minor, and really only while in the process of standing or sitting down. No pain at all once in sitting or laying. Pain for about half a day while walking, until I realized that supporting my stomach with my arm ("holding" it, keeping the weight of it from pulling on my port area) made life so much better. 5. Degree of pain...10 being your arm was cut off and 1 being a paper cut? When asked at the hospital I rated myself, "a half." The most painful thing was probably sitting down, and that may have been a 2 or so. 6. Doctor and state where surgery was done? Dr. Stanley Hoehn, Kansas.

is there a way for me to get banded?
Just thought of something. Check with your local (or even not so local, if that's the case) Goodwill or other assistance agencies. They usually run a free or very low cost work habilitation center (I used to direct one). There you can go and learn business skills: typing, computer skills, interviewing skills, business communication, etc. Some places even offer job assistance once you've graduated. Have you gone to a headhunter/placement agency? What are your marketable skills? *Everyone* has them, you just may not see the value in them, but capitalizing on them will be your fastest route to gainful employment. Assuming your wife works, could she help you get on wherever she's at? Have you looked into anywork-from-home opportunities? Usually they're in the "too good to be true" category, but there are some that are legitimate.

is there a way for me to get banded?
No programs that pay for it, as BB said - you're on your own there. Perhaps we can help you think outside the box though. You say there's no where local to work, other than places you've already applied. Does your wife work? If so, does she do something that could be done in another city? Many people find that in life they have to move to where the work is, if they want to work. Perhaps it's time to relocate? (And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's the answer, but if you need a job and don't have any jobs where you live, living where there are jobs certainly becomes something to consider). Another idea - don't assume that your inability to get a job is directly related to your weight. "Think outside the box" here too. I see a LOT of people a LOT larger than you working all over the place, so you may be doing yourself and potential jobs a disservice by saying that they see you as nothing more than a walking heart attack. Anything else that might be causing the expression on their face, e.g. are you preseting yourself well, are you prepared for the interviews, etc.? So while there aren't any programs to pay for the band, there are programs to make education affordable. There are some kickass grant programs out there. Someone I know is going this route - grants - AA - job - saving for band. It's going to take her a while, but she knows she will get there.

Documented Weight Loss
You'll probably not find an insurance company that would accept Weight Watchers as a supervised diet. And that applies to any subscription type programs, and would definitely not include a gym membership. 99% of the time they're wanting a medically supervised diet, which means you going to the doctor's office with the specific intention of getting weighed and receiving feedback on your progress. Even if you go for other things, and get weighed, it's not a part of a medically supervised diet. Your visits have to be specifically coded under a weightloss listing (probably morbid obesity). I see that you were approved yesterday, the same day you posted this. Pure curiosity, or are you anticipating your insurance company will change something?
