  1. "Bad habits?" Some people would consider it a "bad habit" to cut out fruit, starchy vegetables and whole grains and subsisting on meat, eggs and cheeses. Others damn a banana down into deepest hell. If a dietary habit is bad or not depends on the dietary philosophy people are following. And there are plenty out there to follow.
  2. Does your treatment team recommend a very low carb diet?
  3. I got converted from band to MGB. Helped my volume reflux issues a good deal but I wasn't able to cut the PPI out completely. There was a 20% chance that I wouldn't be able to cut them out and unfortunately I'm in the 20% crowd. So it helped but not as much as I hoped it would.
  4. That's interesting. I think so many people look way older than before when I look at their pictures.
  5. I recently changed jobs because of an additional education. People didn't know me before so it's very, very nice that there aren't any comments about my body or weight at all now. I'm just one of these people that blend into what others seem to be consider the "normal" or "unremarkable" crowd.
  6. No, what happened is simply a common thing that is to expected when following a strict diet and has nothing to do with losing restriction or WLS.
  7. Absolutely. It does happen even if women do use birth control (anyone not believing this for whatever reason: look up pearl index). She's not the first woman and won't be the last so her team should know how to deal with this to make sure mother and baby are getting healthy thourhg pregnancy. --- Regarding not getting pregnant after WLS for a while: So far I've read 2 years and 18 months on this thread. The hospital I got surgery at advises women to not get pregnant within the first year. In sum: another issue without a reliable guideline to follow.
  8. Hopefully not. The last thing this site needs are local bariatric heroes with a know-it-all-attitude that are all about people needing to "wear their big girl panties" when dealing out their so-called "tough love" and behave like crybabies themselves when someone dares to talk back in the same manner. However, if you're really missing them quite a few can be found at Obesity Help.
  9. People on here are hangry.
  10. Maybe three weeks are enough to form new habits that are easy to form and as long as we actually like the new stuff we're doing or at least don't minding the stuff we're doing. It's a difference if you're trying to form the habit of cleaning your coffee cup in the morning instead of letting it sit around dirty or it you're trying to form the habit of going to the gym five days a week. One takes a minute, the other takes a giant amount of your leisure time. Also I don't think the really hard part is forming new habits (though it can be hard enough). IMO the really hard part is giving up the old habits we love. And I think this is where the real problem and challenge is: too many people are trying to replace an old habit they love with a new habit they hate. On top of it they're trying to convince themselves that they're loving the new habit the hate, fooling themselves. Robbing yourself of something you love to replace it with something you hate won't work in the long run.
  11. A lot of people maybe also left because they simply go on with life. I stopped posting on boards about WLS long ago and started again when I had my revision. Now I notice again that I'm not really interested anymore in posting a lot. One of the reasons is that I recently started another education so I have other things on my mind but I also notice that I don't have anything constructive to say about a lot of things. I can understand the need to make snarky comments about certain things (as so many of the vets that left did) - but I don't do it. It's a very destructive thing to do so I rather hold my virtual tongue. With time it's tiring to read about the same stuff and I feel that what I have to say about certain things is not what people want to hear.
  12. Maybe this low carb approach really doesn't work in the long run? Of course it's always easier to blame the patient instead of the diet.
  13. someone: "Why did you get WLS???" me: "Because of the metric system."
  14. The website shows me a notification that I have something in my cart? Can't remember putting anything there and when I click on it I get to the store and there the cart is empty (as it should be). Weird glitch.
  15. I had the same problem with a massively dilated esophagus. Got the fill removed and it got better. Unfortunately I had to have a revision anyway because of ongoing reflux problems.
  16. I didn't even have a pre-op diet. So I followed a pre-op diet to 0%. A lot is depending on the size of the liver and how much fat is in the omentum. Did you have an ultrasound?
  17. Indeed I'm negative. In fact I feel that I can't be writing negative enough about this issue because we were talking about curing obesity and not of physical fitness goals.
  18. Labs can take a long time before become pathologic. They're not necessarily a good indicator. However, I'm totally with you that this "lean animal protein, protein and more protein" doesn't sound like the ideal diet. The typical WLS diet seems to neglect important phytonutrients and fiber. With all this protein patients are eating it's no wonder to find several threads about "not being regular".
  19. Fast is, obesity treatment is frustrating for both the patient and the doctor because the results are usually very poor unless surgery is involved and his suggestion didn't cure your obesity so you might have liked his suggestion but it didn't really help you when it comes to getting to a normal weight. On top of this many patients have given up and so have many doctors (how many frustrating tries does one need to give up unless something really promising is available on the horizon?). That's also the case with smoking. Most of our patients that are treated with PTA have heard countless times to stop smoking. Did that make them stop? Not the majority.
  20. Me neither. There is a difference between telling things like they are and being an a*****e.
  21. Never seen an internet discussion platform of any kind where it doesn't occur. So I guess it's normal.
  22. If a member gets on your nerves, just block him or her. Helps tremendously.
