Can I eat this?
It's interesting that the surgeon's goals are usually not getting the patient down to a normal weight but out of the obese range. Patients are usually the ones who aren't satisfied when the BMI stops going down at 28.7 or 27.6 etc. Surgeons seem to have more modest goals than their patients.

Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis
My husband is like this. He thinks he needs to eat low carb but his HbA1c doesn't seem to be impressed.

Can I eat this?
Too many hangry people in this thread already. Amazing how a question about a little lollipop can lead to such drama.

DS Pariah
I remember a time when it seemed to be marketed as the magic bullet (or at least some patients believed it to be). The DS seems to be performed rarely in Germany these days though. Thanks to everyone answering my question.

Can I eat this?
You should have been here a few months ago.

Can I eat this?
I would wait with spicy things as it can irritate the stomach. Wait four weeks at least.

Vegetarian & Bypass
There is no reason to do so as long as these foods don't make you feel queasy in some way. I'm glad I found a little crowd on BP who's not into the low carb and lots of lean animal protein thing.

Just out of curiosity: do people start gaining back weight once they introduce too much carbohydrates or is it more of a digestion matter that carbs should be limited?

Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis
Indeed. Seriously. I don't like the term "clean food" because what's "clean" and what not seems to depend on the diet one is following.

Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis
I hate this talk about "clean food". When other people telling me they're "eating clean now" I sometimes can't resist asking them: "U-huh, did you throw your food onto the dirty kitchen floor before your ate it, or what?"

Have you still the possibility to test your blood sugar levels after meals? Might be the easiest way to find out if foods like grains still raise your blood sugar into undesirable numbers. As for insulin levels: I don't believe there is the possibility of home testing. (unfortunately, I'm curious myself about this)

Cross addiction or addiction transfer??
Hummmmm, it's hard to tell... My experience is that I stopped smoking after being banded and haven't started again since. As far as compulsive behavior goes: I spend more money on stuff but nothing I couldn't afford so I don't see this as a big deal. Alcohol I drink once in a while. I feel that I'm more anxious about things. More nervous and restless in general. I guess that is my ADHD kicking in harder.

Band to sleeve success stories, please.
I think it's normal to have these thoughts. May I ask why you want a sleeve instead of a bypass?

I think they're talking about the increase in insulin secretion in healthy subjects not about blood sugar elevation in diabetes patients. That's a difference.

Opioid Malabsorption
I didn't gain any weight during the few weeks I had to take opioids. I don't know about long term effects though.

Why can't we swallow pills whole????
I can tell you what we were told: It depends on the size of the pill. If it's teeny-tiny you can swallow it. Otherwise you should crush them for the first four weeks. After that just swallow them whole. I don't know if my treatment team was overly cautious or not. I only had to take the PPI which meant opening the capsules and swallowing tasteless little pellets so I didn't really mind it. Caution: not every pill should be crushed! Ask a pharmacist if you're unsure!

When to Start Resistance Training?
Suggestions vary. I wouldn't do any resistance training until the pain is really gone and I'd stop at the moment the abdominal wall feels weird in any kind of way. Better safe than sorry. No one needs a hernia.

Opioid Malabsorption
Yeah, I know... I don't know how opioids prescriptions are handled in your country. In Germany there are special prescriptions for it and the pharmacies handle them in special ways. In our department the head physician has to go personally to the pharmacy and get the opioids we need. Every time we use an ampule we have to write down the patient's name and date of use into a special book, how many ampules we used and we need to count how many ampules are still there and if all matches. Ampules and book are stored in the poison cabinet only the doctors have a key to.

Current vegetarian- don't want to do keto diet postop.
There is no need to go "keto" or "low carb" after WLS even though many users on this board are eating this way. You need to figure out what works for you. You might want to check out the vegetarian threads on this board.

Opioid Malabsorption
As a physician I wouldn't be surprised at all. As a patient in need of opioids I'd be royally pissed if a colleague accused me of abusing the drug when I have a legitimate need for it. I'm glad I needed opioids only for a very limited amount of time.
-
Opioid Malabsorption
Interesting. When someone in Germany speaks about the abuse of "C2" they usually mean alcohol.

Opioid Malabsorption
I needed opioids for pain management last fall/winter. First I was put on Targin but I had the feeling that there wasn't that much absorbed. I complained about this and my GP prescribed me Norspan patches and they worked just fine. Maybe patches are an option for you as well?

Substitute
Depends. Our nutritionists told us smooth natural nut butters are fine to mix in during the liquid phase. Lots of good fats and nutrients. The approach of others varies of course. ETA: if you're looking for protein pancake recipes you might want to take a look at bodybuilding websites. They usually have plenty of recipes there.

Study of Season 8 "Biggest Loser" Contestants re Weight Regain Causes
Apart from metabolic changes: does it really surprise anyone that all hell breaks loose once a person comes out of a highly controlled and motivating environment into "freedom" again after starving and exercising compulsively for months in a row ?
