  1. I hope that you find some fellow bandsters in or around Manhattan. I used to live in Bergen County, NJ and I miss it. I'll be up there for a long weekend in early June. My husband and I will also (most likely) be visiting that area during the holidays. I haven't seen the tree in a LONG time.
  2. I'm sorry that you're having such a struggle deciding what is best for you. I can only tell you my own thoughts on this subject. There was never any doubt that I was going to have lap band surgery. Although the weight does come off slower than gastric bypass (which I consider to be more healthy), I don't have the permanent re-routing of my insides and it can be reversed, if medically necessary. The slower weight loss also gives your body/skin more time to adjust to the loss. If you read the statistics, you'll see that lap band patients can and do lose a large percentage of their excess weight just like gastric bypass patients. Additionally, the risk of complications/death is much lower with lap band surgery. Another benefit with lap band surgery is that it is adjustable and you don't have the increased risk of gaining the weight back...assuming you follow the rules. I hope this helps with your decision. I wish you the best of luck. P.S. I'm a native Oregonian, now living in Louisiana.
  3. Congratulations and welcome to bandland! I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  4. YVW "Sweet spot" is another term for proper restriction.

  6. Congratulations, Mia!
  7. I wholeheartedly concur!!
  8. Congratulations on reaching 1 year and for all of your successes. You look fantastic!
  9. Here are a few links to companies that provide financing for non-covered medical procedures. I would suggest, however, that you go to your local bank and inquire about a personal loan first. You may find that you get a better rate. I was self-pay and we obtained a personal loan from our bank. Good luck! http://www.efinancing-solutions.com/default.asp http://www.surgeryloans.com/ http://www.monarchfinance.com/ http://www.medicredit.com/
  10. CONGRATULATIONS skbishop78!!
  11. CONGRATULATIONS HEATHER!!
  12. That's a great story. I'm so happy for you and your family. I bet it was great meeting all of those new people. My DH is also adopted and has known about it from a very early age. At the moment, he doesn't have the desire to meet his birth mother or father but I hope that some day he will. Best of luck to ALL of you!!
  13. My surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Lavin of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana in Covington. You're in great hands!! Everyone there is wonderful.
  14. I'll be thinking good thoughts and I hope you have a speedy recovery!
  15. I'm with you on this one!! I'm currently at 207 and I hope to be at 199 before May 9th. Good luck everyone!!
  16. YAY!! My goal for this month will (again) be 10 pounds. Welcome aboard, Paula & :gluck: everyone.
  17. Tylenol is not an NSAID but Aleve is. My doctor didn't specifically tell me to stay away from NSAIDs but I stay away from them. If I don't have liquid adult Tylenol, then (and only then) I will take ibuprofen (NSAID).
  18. I have no idea what she charges for fills, etc. but here is her contact info. Patterson, Emma MD - Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Address: 1040 NW 22nd Ave # 500, Portland, OR 97210 Phone:(503) 227-5050
  19. Well, today is the last day of March and, although I didn't meet my personal goal of a 10 pound loss, I am only 1 pound away. I'll take it! Congratulations to everyone on their losses and commitment to this club. I look forward to April's thread. :biggrin1:
  20. I didn't see any reason to purchase fitday.com for my PC. The free version has everything I need. As far as vitamins are concerned, if you add your multi-vitamin as a custom food and include it in your daily caloric intake, it will change your vitamin needs report. By the way, I like the new look of fitday.com
  21. Welcome to the club, MoOrLess!
  22. Great news! Thanks for keeping us updated. :biggrin1:
  23. The difference is basically the cut of the pants. Most designers start with a sewing form and go up or down depending upon typical body measurements. I read somewhere that Misses sizes start with a size 8 form and Women's/Plus sizes start with a size 12 form. Women's/Plus size pants are cut with a little extra room in the mid-section and thighs. With that said, if you can fit into an 16W, you can most likely fit into a 18M. I hope this helps.
  24. That's my birthday and I wish I could join you for lunch! Have fun!!
