Your a bit far from where I live but not crazy far. I wish you the best with your surgery! Keep me posted on how you do and I wish you all the best. Are you on Facebook? I'm on there as Dawn Bistarkey. We can use messenger to chat. It would be alot easier. Let me know!

Scared to loose more than GW
I have 5 people in my family that have had bypass 1 the band and 1 the sleeve. Not one of them are too skinny. In fact they all stopped losing and have to watch what they eat cause they've gained. You will bottom off then in a year or so gain some back. James is right. Your body knows when to stop. It's a percentage not an exact number. You'll be ok. I'm due to have my surgery in April! I only have 75 to lose. I asked the same question lol. I think everyone thinks this way!

Hi Angela! Congrats on your surgery date! I was told April 11th but still waiting for approval from my insurance. My doctors office ended up not submitting enough clinical info so they had to retract my request and resubmit. Makes me mad but... Hoping it al gets taken care of this time around! Which surgery will you be having? I will be having bypass. Where are you located in Pittsburgh? I'm in the south hills near the village mall. How about you? Where will you be having your surgery?

Acid and decision for surgery
I'm getting the bypass. I was told the sleeve can give even people who have never had this trouble, have it afterwards. And if you already have it, it will just compound the issue. When he said cancer that was it for me. He's a very pronouned surgeon and does seminars and writes books. Top surgeon in the area. Idk. I would like to trust what he is saying. Everyone will do as they choose but even tho I don't want the bypass that's what I will be having.

Acid and decision for surgery
This is why my doctor wants me to have RNY and not the sleeve. RNY will stop the gerd and acids

Acid and decision for surgery
Your acids can be silent like mine. RNY is the best surgical choice for this issue. Sleeve offers a straight shot up into the esophagus again and burning it can lead to cancer. Bypass offers a "detour" and it closes off the options for any acids. I'm going RNY because of acids and Barrett's from it

Thank you ladies! @@CBT & Bufflehead! I appreciate both of your comments! RNY it is???? And yes when I heard him say cancer...well that scared the hell out of me! Surely would never want that. Thank you again for your support!????- Acid and decision for surgery
I'm not one to carry excess weight in my abdomen area. All of mine is hips legs and butt. I have a family history of gerd and hernias also. Guess the odds are just against me. The problem is I never feel a thing and all this damage has already taken place. Scary. If I make the choice of the sleeve and end up with problems then what?!? I can't afford another surgery ????- Acid and decision for surgery
Will you be getting the sleeve or RNY?- Acid and decision for surgery
Thanks so much for your advice! I appreciate it. I think your right also. I will be doing the RNY ????- Acid and decision for surgery
My concern for me is I was diagnosed with having chronic reflux changes and findings to suggest Barrett's esophagus. I was scoped and that's how I found this out. I never even knew I was having any problems. Never uncomfortable never burning. But boy did they take out a bunch of nodules and burn spots. All from acid. I do have a hiatal hernia but that's caused by the esophagus opening up and allows the stomach to go up into that space. Both areas will need repaired for me but he also said there's a 20% chance of the hernia coming back too. It's so hard to make decisions that you can be 100% with. It's scary. To me it is. I want the sleeve. My gut says sleeve. My head says don't be stupid. Listen to your surgeon.- Acid and decision for surgery
It's definitely something to find out for sure. I have a friend who recently had the sleeve and she now has reflux and didn't before and I know others that have no issues. Problem that scares me is I have reflux now and problems from it and I never knew I even had it! I never have indigestion or heartburn or anything. It's silent and doing its dirty work without me even knowing- Acid and decision for surgery
Hi! I would love to also get a second opinion but not sure who to go to or how much time I have before getting in to see someone else. I have heard so often about how the sleeve can worsen already acid events and create acid issues. My doctor says it's a straight shot up into the esophagus with the sleeve stomach. The RNY offers a detour so acids get stopped. I called the eng doctor I saw who did my scope and the nurse I spoke with told me she would advise me to follow what my doctor is suggesting and it all makes perfect sense. Also if acids get up there they can eat away all the good cells and can lead to cancer. Pretty scary! Idk. I just am not 100% now with either!????- Acid and decision for surgery
Hi! I just had my last apt yesterday and had been leaning towards the sleeve this whole time. So excited. Then yesterday my surgeon said I have the starts of Barrett's esophagus and acid reflux. That ended that. He said the acids can come up and burn all the cells and can cause cancer. Also he said if there's s problem with it prior there is a guarantee it will become worse since it's now a straight shot up thru the esophagus with the sleeve. I know I surely don't want esophageal cancer or throat cancer from all these acids but I am so beyond sad and now I have a very short time to educate myself on the RNY. Good luck to you with your decision. - Acid and decision for surgery
