  1. I was banded 1.23.08 too; I had the exact same pain about 10 days after, almost felt like a pulled muscle. I did call my Dr. and he said the tube to the port goes around the ribs on the left side and more than likely since I had started moving about more, that was what I was feeling. The pain actually went away the next day or so hope you feel better soon Sandy banded 1.23.08 high/surgery/today/goal 205/177/166/120

    January - Summer 2008 Challenge

just banded last week, Jan23rd. Am going on vacation end of June so this is perfect for me Sta6160 205......140......170.......30 thanks! Sandy
  4. my nutrionist recommended 1000mg per day - I also use the Flintstone complete chewables 2x a day
  5. Well I told my 8 yr old granddaughter, she lives w/me and knew I went in the hospital - I had to stay overnight Anyway, surgery was last week and she's been helping me out This evening we stopped at the grocery store and ran into some friends I hadn't seen since summer - one asked if I'd lost weight because I really looked like I had and before I could answer, my granddaughter blurts out "yes, she had surgery on her tummy!!" So, if you don't want the whole world to know, you may consider not telling your kids what kind of surgery it is!! Good Luck!!
  6. my BMI was somewhere between 35-38 I didn't really make that my main focus. If you're overweight, you know it, your doctor knows it, your body knows it. There are so many other illnesses that obesity makes worse - diabetes, sleep apnea, joint pain, etc. My highest weight was 205 last March, and I'm 5'1" - once I went over the 200 mark that was it - I just knew it wouldn't take me as long to hit 300 lbs. I've had a few comments like you're not that fat - well it's because I carry it all over my body, not just my butt or hips. Even my very best friend of the last 20 years has not been supportive of my surgery. She says she just couldn't do that to herself or she likes to eat anything she wants, or who will she have to go to dinner with - I'm trying not to let me get down. I made this decision for my health, to see my boys (27 and 25) live their lives and be here to see my grandchildren grow up. My surgery was last week and lost 28 lbs preop - want to lose another 50-60 lbs- can't wait to see myself this time next year when I've accomplished my goal!! So I say, do it for yourself, no one else - don't let what other's think rule your life. I'm done with worrying about what others think, and only what I want from this life we are blessed with.

    Drinking water...

I was banded Jan 23rd too - no way I'm getting 64 oz in now. I think my goal for first 2 weeks is 48oz, but I'm not there either. Preop I was doing more than 64oz - like the crystal light packets you add to bottled Water and starbucks iced tea (no sugar) - also count your Protein shakes to total intake Sandy
  8. you're progress sounds great. I think I'm moving a littler slower, but I had my gall bladder removed and hiatal hernia repaired along w/ the band. But I'm planning on a half day of work on Monday. My family is making me walk, especially my Brother who had gastric bypass 4 years ago (very successful!!) And they're just having too much fun giving me the blood thinner shots!! I really haven't felt hungry at all - I've forced myself to down a few ounces of Protein shake at a time, sugar free popsicle are tops on my list - then Jello and broth. Question since I'm new here - when you're posting your weight, do you start with weight you lost before surgery? Is it highest/surgery/current/goal? thanks!!

    Hunger during pre-op liquid phase

I start my preop liquid diet tomorrow for 2 weeks before surgery and then 2 weeks after too. Glad to hear some haven't really been hungry it's making me nervous just thinking about it!! Sandy
  10. I am having lap band surgery this month - my best friend is really against the surgery - not sure if it's because she's overweight too and "misery loves company" or she's afraid I'll have a different life - socially- after I lose the weight. What she doesn't realize is I really need her support to get thru this instead of the "who will go to dinner with me?" I've taken her to one our support group meetings at the Doc's office, but it didn't help. She is so adamant that she would NEVER have this surgery. I suggest you let your friend know how much you care and glad he/she is going to be healthy in their new lifestyle. Sandy surgery date 1.23.08

Who is Getting Banded this Week?

first time posting to site - or any site for that matter surgery is scheduled for Jan 23rd and I start my liquid diet tomorrow Jan 9th - my Doc says 2 weeks liquid before surgery and 2 weeks liquid after. Felt dinner last night was the "last supper" but I agree with what someone else said, I've eaten enough "big meals" to last a lifetime. Stopping at GNC tonight to stock up on Protein shakes I hope I can make the 4 weeks on liquids - hoping after the first few days it gets easier - especially if the lbs start falling off! Sandy
