  1. But make sure you have the right sized underwear!
  2. I'm on day 7 (of 14) of a clear liquid pre-op diet. I can have 3-4 Protein shakes a day and Clear liquids (broth, sugar free Jello, non-caffeinated tea). In all honesty, it really hasn't been bad. I haven't had any bad days -- not even Christmas. I've discovered that warm liquids are my best friend!
  3. I totally agree. Most of the broth I'm eating is homemade turkey (made after thanksgiving) and homemade beef. I used bones and veggies and seasonings. After it was done, I chilled it so I could get all the fat off the top. It is seriously one of my favorite things!
  4. @@Nurse_Lenora, your pre-op diet sounds almost identical to mine. I am on day 7. I have been using a variety of Protein drinks, including Premier Protein (pre made),
  5. Warm milk with Syntrax Chocolate Truffle has been one of my staples on my pre-op clear liquid diet!
  6. You look amazing! for those of us who are still pre-op, this is pure inspiration!
  7. Today is Day 3 of my clear liquid diet. I actually have done really well. Christmas dinner didn't give me any problems. The only people there who know were my husband's parents, my hubby and my kids. I fixed an
  8. What I don't understand is what part of "i'm having my guts torn up and rearranged and it's private!" do they not understand?
  9. Before I start, let me say that my husband has been wonderfully supportive in this entire process.. But he also doesn't really understand my desire for privacy. I agreed to tell his parents because I knew they'd be supportive and it seemed like the right thing to do. (I've only told them, a couple friends, my boss, our kids and my brothers) I've been stressed the past few days trying to figure out how I'm going to handle Christmas. My all-liquid pre-op diet starts on the 23rd. We always do Christmas Day at my in-laws house. Usually, it's not a huge meal. I intend just to take a Protein shake and some broth with protein in it for the time over there. I've been a little stressed about it because I don't want to have to be answering a bunch of questions from nosy nieces and nephews (not inquisitive - nosy!). But, I'll figure it out. So, my hubby, in his "i must tell my mother everything" mode, tells his mom that I'm anxious. Her solution is to volunteer to tell my sisters-in-law but tell them that I want it kept quiet. Now I love my sisters-in-law. But one of them is completely incapable of not spilling the Beans. I don't want to talk to them about it. I don't even want them to know about it. It's personal and private. I told my husband that I didn't want his mom to say anything to anyone. He said "well, then we just won't be able to go to Christmas". I told him that was ridiculous and if anyone asked why I wasn't eating, I'd just say I don't feel good. Now he's all upset. I am irritated beyond belief! I'm supposed to let his mom tell blabbermouth so that she and my husband feel ok about it. HELL NO!! I haven't figure out yet what containers I'm going to take with my protein in it but I'll figure it out. Sorry for venting. I'm nervous and anxious and everybody is getting on my last nerve!
  10. My clear liquid pre-op diet starts on 23Dec! Ugh. But it's ok. I'm prepared (I hope)!
  11. We're surgery date twins! And I hate to wish Christmas away but i am SO ready for this surgery!
  12. Hi everyone, I'm glad I found this forum! I am 55 and scheduled to have RNY on 1/6/15. I am very excited and nervous. My doctor says I'm healthy and strong and that this is a great move. I am type 2 diabetic but expect remission for that. I think I got here the same way that many of you did -- realizing that before long, my health was going to be unbearable. My back hurts. My knees hurt. And I couldn't seem to do anything about it. I was going to cut my life short if I didn't do anything. I actually feel like this decision has helped me take control of my life back. My husband and my kids are very supportive, although a little nervous. @zsnaani Your story made me sad. If you need anyone to talk to, although I'm a newb, I'd be glad to listen. I added you as a friend My pre-op diet starts the day before Christmas! Wish me luck!
  13. I got my date today -- January 6!
  14. Insurance got approved on Tuesday. Just got off the phone with the scheduler. I'm set for January 6!! Yeah! Excited and scared!
  15. I know this sounds like a weird question. I still don't have a date (waiting on insurance approval) but it should be this month. I am planning on buying my husband a trip to a local resort, including a 2-hour snowmobile trip. I'm very excited! However, I'm wondering how long it will be after surgery before it's safe for me to do. Any ideas?
  16. I think it is much easier to take up a dress than let it out. Personally, I would go with the larger size. You don't need the added pressure of being "required" to lose a certain amount of weight. If it's too big, excellent! It can be taken in.
  17. The turkey broth turned out excellent. I'm getting some beef bones to make the next batch! Now if I can just get my insurance approval!
  18. As I sit here patiently (NOT!) waiting for my insurance approval, i'm trying to prepare for the two week liquid diet. I have the Protein drinks that I need. And I stocked up on store bought broth. The other day, i was making stuffing for my son and tasted the swanson's chicken broth. I could swear I've drank it before but I thought it tasted horrible! So, I've made the decision to make my own. ATM, i have leftover turkey and bones on the stove simmering with veggies and spices. It smells amazing. And it tastes SO MUCH BETTER than store bought. I'm going to let it sit in the cold garage and skim off all of the fat after it cools and then store it in serving size containers in the freezer. Does that sound nuts? Are there any pitfalls that I'm not thinking of? Does anyone else have recipes for broth (any kind but seafood?)
  19. Haven't heard yet. Aetna wasn't very helpful but I'll try again in a couple of days.. After all, it was the holiday
  20. I was told that the body couldn't use more than 25G of protein at a time. Is that not accurate? @@winklie, how long does it take you to drink your protein?
  21. According to the information from my nutritionist, it should be perfectly ok to add the unflavored protein to your Crystal Light.
  22. I have been driving my surgeon's office crazy. It has been two full weeks since I finished my 90-day pre op diet visits. They had told me it would be a week or less before they sent my info in. I have emailed them every other day! Finally, today, they sent the info to Aetna. It is really important that I get my surgery before the end of the year because my company has been sold and I don't know if my new company will cover bariatric surgery! I sure hope the insurance answers soon!
