I'm on day 5 of my 2 weeks of pre-op diet (just shakes) surgery is on 1/16/08. I find it hard to drink as much water as recomended. Also do they catheterize everyone before or during sugury? Thanks some questions are embarrassing. Pike:confused:

vko, My Mom and I are both being banded on the 16th also. I did much research and asked many questions before deciding to do this proceedure. As I was told the band is only a tool and we still have to make the right food choices and we must exercise to have the band be effective. I to haven't had surgery and am a little nervous, I just keep concentrating on the benifits I will receive if I adhere to my surgeons' and nutritionist guidlines. Being on the pre-op diet has helped make me aware of my motivations to raid the kitchen every couple of hours, I've found it has definatly taken mental energy to drink just shakes! But so far so good! We only have a week to go now, we can definatly do this! Best of luck to you on your surgury and keep us posted of your progress. Gillian, I am on day 7 of the shakes, surgery is on the 16th. The first 3 days was the hardest, it gets easier sister!!! I found that I just had to get out of the house and away from the fridge. I put my shakes on the top two shelves of the fridge so when I would stop by, just to browse, I would see them and remember what I was doing. I have really become aware the last week how much I graze in the kitchen, like when I get up to use the restroom, I graze, when I answer the phone, when the dogs bark, on commercial breaks, or just being bored. I fooled myself into thinking I didn't eat that much, I don't have large portions for meals but it is all the in-between that has added up. Hang in there, you'll do fine, the shakes are only temporary, we will get through this, just stay busy and keep your goals in mind, best wishes, Pike

whirlwnds, So nice to meet you! We live in Atlanta, MI between gaylord and Alpena. My mom is also 5'2." and weighs 244 and she is 67 years old. It sounds like youv'e made some good lifestyle changes lately. When do you get your band? I am very excited about my band and just a little nervous but our family is very supportive. I' am so happy to have forund this site, My name is Pike and I'm 34 years old, I am currently 5"4" and weigh 256. I received insurance approval finaly and I am scheduled to be banded on 1/16/08. I am currently working on the pre-op shake diet and it is going well. I am so excited about all of your success and know I have a lot of work to obtain my own.
