Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
I didn't expect to use my microwave so much!!! I have to warm my broth/soups/oatmeal up every 4 or 5 minutes because it starts getting cold!!! Since it takes a while to just eat a couple ozs...this reheating thing is driving me nuts. I guess it could be worse though!! ????

I didn't realize how much money my husband and I were spending on fast food/restaurants BEFORE surgery!! We've saved so much and now since I eat so little...things are lasting alot longer!!! Guess I'll just have to spend my money on other things like shoes n clothes! ????

Surgery today could use an experienced buddy!
Yes. I did. It goes away after about a week. No matter how much walking I did...it took its time. Hang in there. It will start getting better!

Less than 5g Sugar and Less than 5g Fat
It has not been easy but totally worth every second. I started off at 410 June 5. Surgery day was 9/2 and I was 367! Weighed myself a couple days ago (before my husband hid the scale lol) and I was 349! Anxious for my post op appt tuesday to see how much more has fallen off!

Less than 5g Sugar and Less than 5g Fat
Thank you for sharing and I totally intend on following my nutritionist guidelines...I just wasn't sure how others went about doing things...and really, I was just so confused on what dumping was lol. Sounds terrible and I know I'm going to do whatever it takes to not "dump" as I have this horrible fear of throw up. ???? I really appreciate you taking the time to explain things in depth! Toasty has great words of advice! His surgery was yesterday, I do hope he's doing well and resting!

Struggling day 7 post op
As a host of this forum, I will remind you that personal attacks and name calling are forbidden. Please refrain from such behaviors. Thank you! Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind. Please note...I could have spelled out EXACTLY what I meant but decided I wouldn't for the sake of your forum. You may want to contact the person who completely put this person down. We all have opinions and I gave mine. There is a big difference between stating an opinion (which I did feel and comment was quite harsh) and name calling. Utilizing symbols over words does not negate intent. Awesome! Next time, I won't use symbols. ✌

Less than 5g Sugar and Less than 5g Fat
Hey there! Yes, my nutritionist says to stay under 5g of sugar and 5g of fat or else dumping syndrome will occur...Now, I'm only 9 days post op and not even thinking about food...It's just been on my mind. I wanted to see if eating more than 5 g sugar and 5 g fat is what causes dumping??? And also, what the heck is dumping? Everyone kinda says a different thing...so I'm sure each person is different.

Less than 5g Sugar and Less than 5g Fat
Does everyone still live by this even after 6 months post op? When you go to a restaurant, how are we supposed to know just how much sugar or fat is in what they cook? How does everyone typically calculate this? After time, can our tummies tolerate a lil more than that?? Sorry, just random questions!

Southern California / Orange County Self Pay Quotes
I had my surgery in southern California. Palm Springs to be exact. My dr was Dr. Ramy Awad. I went through insurance and it was 100% covered though. He's a great doctor!

What will I need?
I packed a ton of stuff and all I really needed was pajamas, lots of undies, PADS OR TAMPONS (I started my period very heavily the day after surgery...it was horrible and messy), chapstick, gas x strips, a mini fan, deodarant, cell phone and charger, slippers with non slip treading, ur favorite blanket and a pillow for the ride home! Hope this helps!!!

I completely agree!!! The only reason I love the commercials is for reminding me to sip some water!!! Every commercial, I drink a little. it's a nice timer lol other than that...I'd rather watch Netflix!

Hopefully, back surgery will not be needed for you!!! My name is Vanessa AND I look forward to keeping in touch with you! Thank you so much for sharing this!!! ????❤

Really? We ALL do? Huh. I didn't know that. I must have missed that about myself. You're quite sarcastic.

Sciatica and Weight Loss
Let me start off by giving stats...Im 29 years old...I started my journey June 5 at 410lbs. My surgery day was 9/2 and I weighed 367 and just a day or so ago I was already down to 349. WAHOOOOO!!!! So now, here's my story. Back in March, I was diagnosed with a tiny herniated L5-S1 disc. Drs say it just so happens that it is bulged out and is touching on my sciatic nerve which is causing MAJOR MAJOR left leg and calf pain. I have NO PAIN in my back at all. Just EXCRUCIATING pain in my left leg (the calf in particular)...which leads me to maybe believe it's my piriformis muscle causing the issues and not the tiny herniated disc... So my options were 1.) Back surgery at a very young age 29 that may or may not work. or 2.) Weight loss surgery that MAY help the sciatica but definitely will help blood pressure, PCOS and over all health. I went with option 2. I know I'm not expecting this sciatica to go away over night, which I'm sure it wont...but my question is as follows: HAS ANYONE EVER GONE THROUGH SOMETHING SIMILAR AND MIRACULOUSLY GOTTEN OVER SCIATICA WITH WEIGHT LOSS??? Or maybe this is a case of piriformis syndrome?? I'm really praying weight loss helps...but I am being so hard on myself 1 week out from surgery just wishing I would have had back surgery because my leg is still hurting although I knew it wouldn't heal overnight...???????????????? This has been an emotional rollercoaster... Also, I've tried: Stretching at home Chiropractor Acupuncture Physical Therapy Epidurals (at least 5) Swimming to stretch it out Anyone have any input?? Thank you!

Obsessively checking online to see if I've been approved
It shouldn't take long, but one thing that I remember someone telling me when I was at this point was, DON'T RUSH IT...when it's meant to happen, IT WILL and you'll be ecstatic!!!! It will be approved when you least expect it and tears of joy will become endless!! Best of luck on your journey!! -Vanessa ????
