  1. I hope to eventually get a bypass for the same reason as well as the fact that I have GERD and diabetes runs in family.
  2. My surgery just got delayed by 3 months and I'm really having a hard time dealing with it. I need to hear stories about people that had a really long preop process (like almost a year of continually weighing in and going to support groups) and made it through and got the surgery and are now getting healthy and losing that weight!! Thanks
  3. Well I just spoke with the scheduler and it sounds like the earliest I can get the surgery is August and no guarantee the new plan will cover it because the plan doesn't even exist until June 1st. I'm so frustrated. I don't even feel like it is safe to get this surgery at the beginning of the fall because my job is so crazy in sept and October and i am not supposed to keep drinking water in the room where I work (and I work 11 hour shifts). Normally I can take a break and leave and go get water but during the fall The only guaranteed times I can drink are before work starts, at lunch (5 hours in), and after 7pm. I will try and throw in 2 additional breaks but no guarantee. If my pouch is not at least somewhat able to handle 4 oz of water at a time then I am kind of screwed. The whole reason I have been driving all the way to Greenville 2-3 times per month is because the one near my house led me to believe I couldn't get in until August. Looks like I should have saved the gas. I just hope I can get the surgery SOMEWHERE at some TIME now. So over this right now. And I am stuck sitting in on the same classes every month that I am required to attend in order to stay active with this program. I am sitting right now waiting for one to start that I feel like I could practically teach verbatim at this point. So frustrated. Don't know what else to say.
  4. The only other local place won't accept transfers like that but I am very determined to get this surgery. If I have to continue this stupid monthly weigh in thing until I can get on obamacare I will. Just annoyed if that is what I have to do.
  5. So I have been going to this surgery center since August. My insurance gave me the runaround but I finally got it in writing what their criteria were etc...my last weigh in will be April 5 and then we can submit to insurance. My surgery center has a policy that they will not start you on the four week preop diet until you get insurance approval so best case scenario I can get it at the end of May. HOWEVEr, my surgeon was in a car accident and is off work for 6 weeks and is booked up until July. Now I just got notified that they are discontinuing my insurance at the end of May and putting me on a high deductible plan with HSA. I won't know until April 4th if it covers bariatric surgery I'm so frustrated because I have been driving over an hour each way 2-3 times a month since August for this thing and may not even get the surgery? Ugh Sorry just had to vent
  6. Lol yeah we are already joking about how cute our kids would be and what type of wedding dress I should wear lol but it is all just in fun right now and I AM being careful as he has not said he loves me or anything yet
  7. Wow! Sorry to hear that he lost his wife but it sounds like you two might have a future together. I'm 38. We have spent every day off together and have FaceTime dates after work
  8. Lol I have done that before.
  9. I know. Like I said, I'm just going to have to wait and see lol. He has never tried to convince me not to have the surgery or anything and I keep warning him about the loose skin and the possibility that I might look too thin in the face for a bit (something I have noticed when people lose weight fast is that their faces kind of go through an "awkward stage" while the body is redistributing the fat.)
  10. My only worry is that he does prefer bbw type women but he says he will care for me no matter what size I am. Only time will tell if that is true!
  11. I am just starting to date a man and told him on day one that I was preparing for surgery. He seems very supportive and has a background as a caregiver so seems willing to be there for me during the recovery but we shall see!
  12. Lol I love everyone's stories. I am 38 and have never felt like this before so I guess we will see what happens!
  13. I'm just curious what people think about this topic. I always thought that you need to really know a person before you can fall in love and now I am irrationally in love with someone I met 2 weeks ago and am trying to keep my head on straight. Thanks!
  14. I mean, are there any movies showing how much work goes into preparing, having, and recovering after weight loss surgery. Because that is something I feel like people could benefit from seeing.
  15. I think the fat acceptance movement is important and should be encouraged. HOWEVER, I was expecting this movie to be specifically about weight loss surgery and felt like it didnt really focus on anything except the psychosocial aspects of that. I was hoping for practical info of what it is like to have the surgery and recover and stay motivated etc. So I was disappointed. If the movie had been marketed as a view into the lives of people involved in the fat acceptance movement I would have gone in with very different expectations and would have probably enjoyed the movie more.
  16. I am a nurse and have pulled many jp drains. I have never heard anyone say it hurt but sometimes people say it "feels weird" I would not worry about that.
  17. I know! This is like torture! I will be submitting to insurance on april 7th and then my surgeon requires a month long liquid diet so I will be getting it in mid may at the earliest. My first time meeting with the office for the info session was in early august so it feels like a lonnnnnng process. I am currently making some good changes in my relationship to food though and am looking for a therapist to help me with the transition. I can't seem to lose any weight but I know I am making many positive changes. Patience is just not my strong point, I guess! Kat
  18. Oh yeah....chewing....need to work on that one
  19. Yeah I need to add caffeine to my list of habits I break
  20. Hello! Just curious what people who are in this longggggg waiting period are doing to prepare. I have successfully started eating smaller, more frequent meals, am going to the gym about 4 days/week, not drinking calories, reducing sugar intake, and not eating out at restaurants. I am also starting to take Vitamins daily. However, I really need to work on getting in my 8 glasses of Water per day and weight training (I am only doing cardio right now). My surgeon's office doesn't put people on a specific diet but just focus on making small changes every couple weeks. I haven't lost any weight but I feel like eventually these changes are bound to pay off and it is a nice change to not be on a "diet" for once in my life because it gives me a chance to work on some less than healthy behaviors I have developed over the years. What is everyone else doing?
