  10. #1 Hi. I'm a 55 year old female New Yorker, who like everyone else here, has fought with my weight throughout my life. I've completed my 6 month weight loss program (during which I pretty much gained weight cos I had the "going to the electric chair" mentality) and my Gastric Bypass is scheduled for November 30th. One of my main issues from the start of this process - which has been years in the making between research, attending seminars and wrestling with the decision - is that I feel such a tremendous amount of shame. I have told only a select few people of my plans mostly because I am ashamed that I have let myself get to the point where I need surgery to lose weight. When I tell someone new it's not with excitement, it's with tears and remorse. I want to feel proud of my decision and excited that I'm taking my life (and my health) back, but I can't get past the regret and shame. Has anyone else felt this way? I really want to lift my attitude but I'm struggling. Come on my fellow New Yorker!Get those fighting chops you have and you will come out brilliantly!:-)You are no failure...you live and thrive in one of the toughest city in the world. You are not to make it public knowledge that you are getting WLS unless you want to.You are already a winner. You will be fine...best of luck and keep us posted.Failure is not an option:-)
  11. I have had a London and continuous struggle with this lap band and I was going for the sleeve....did the research and found that RNY is a better option ...Lets see..PCOS,GERD,hiatal hernia, mild sleep apnea, hypoglycemic, post metatasic breast cancer and high cholesterol....Too many medications...I want to live healthy and feel great inside and out 51 and my tentative surgery date is December 28....oh yeah my lapband flipped recently....RNY is my new gold standard...looking forward and need support.Love this thread.
  12. Same here.I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea...holding up my submission process but.I was approved so on my way to receiving a cpap machine.
  13. 51 and this band is misery....got a tentative date for December 28!You guys make me feel hopeful!
  14. I finally have a date...jumped through all the hoops...pulmonary doctor is holding me up because I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and he wants me to have a cpap machine. In the meantime my port just flipped surgeon has scheduled me for December 28.2 week fast required pre op...anybody out there like me?
  15. Will be ready to send all paperwork to the insurance.Got a tentative date set for Dec 28...wait and see....
  16. You will revise eventually...the band has caused me misery for over 15 years.Lots of damage....I am revising to bypass...
  17. Update...as you know I am trying hard to get my paperwork in for submission. In addition to the hiatal hernia, torturous esophagus,GERd,I have mild sleep apnea...the pulmonary dr is convinced I need a cpap...had me fitted...also an additional breath test.I told him he is holding me up!!!!.Went to see the surgeon at the request of the nutritionist.....turns out that bump is a flipped port...it has been protruding for a long time...port pain...everyone is moving fast now..Scheduled for December 28...yipee!!!Lets just see what insurance has to say....just had psych visit so we will see...
  18. I had my lapband 11 years ago in NYC.Fast forward I have Horizon NJ Health and had to find a dr that takes this plan.I went to Goldstein because I want to get this horrific band out..At first I wanted the sleeve and saw on his impressive site that he performed revision from band to sleeve.Waited weeks to get an appointment..He was lackluster and not very engaged...and his assistant is an unorganized lazy dingbat.I changed to another dr in the practice and He performs all surgeries as well as revision from band to bypass...His assistant is much more efficient and I am a bit more satisfied. The NUT is wonderful and I am trying to go through all testing in order to get approved. Yes I am with Neff...,very happy I made the change.....
  19. I need to get all my paperwork in...my pulmonary Doctor is holding up the process...mild sleep apnea...just got fitted and have to take a breath test they forgot to perform...ugh
