grazing, overeating and weight gain :(

Try some Laughing Cow cheese on your cucumber slices. Adds a little protein and lots of deliciousness!

    Sleep

My husband was sleeved Wednesday (so he's 5 days post op), and he slept in the recliner part of his first night home, but then moved to the couch to sleep on his side. He said it felt better having the support of the couch back behind him. Plus, he can't move as much on the couch since there's just not much room.

    When does Day 1 start

Same here....clear liquids the first 24 hrs after surgery, and then full liquids starting day 2 after surgery.

    Heart rate

Track your HR hourly over a 24 hr period. If it stays high (over 120 bpm) for more than a couple of hours, contact your surgeon. It can be a sign of a leak. Not trying to freak you out, but my hubby was sleeved Wednesday and his HR was high after surgery, so his surgeon did a CT scan and two barium swallows before we could leave just to make sure there wasn't a leak. There wasn't, thank goodness - they think it was because he was off his blood pressure meds for a day or two - once he started back on them, his HR went down.
  5. Me, too! Sleeve buddies!

I'd rather....than continue to be fat!

    Love these ideas!

    Post-op day 2 and regretting

Glad you're starting to feel better! I'm still pre-op, but I'm a firm believer in the adult liquid Tylenol - I think it works faster than the pill form. I've only been able to find the Wal-Mart version, though I haven't done a thorough survey of all of the drugstores. Thank you for sharing your story! Best of luck in your recovery!

    Fat confessionals

This is one of the first things on my "why I'm doing this" list. My daughter is 3, and I don't want her to ever be embarrassed of me because of my weight.
  9. I will be doing a week-long liquid diet prior to my surgery. Neither my surgeon nor my NUT said anything about wanting me to do the pre-op diet to lose weight. The purpose is to shrink the liver to make it easier for him to get to my stomach during the surgery, as the stomach lies partly under the liver. Weight loss is just a bonus, not the goal.

    Unjury

What would I need the thermometer for? I already bought 3 blender bottles. I'm hesitant to try the other flavors due to allergies. Possibly I could try the vanilla. Fireflea mentioned this above, so I'll defer to her expertise, having not tried it myself, but apparently temperature is important when you mix in the powder. If it's too hot, it'll change the texture (and flavor, I would assume). The exception is the chicken soup...I think it says to add it only to hot Water.

    Unjury

Unjury has a starter kit that gives you two packets of each flavor - chocolate splendor, vanilla, strawberry, chicken soup, and unflavored - plus a good thermometer and a blender bottle, for around $20.

    July 29 buddy

My husband is being sleeved on July 29! Haven't managed to get him to join the forums yet
  15. Syntrax also has a "secret" variety pack of Nectar you have to order over the phone....apparently not available on the website. It's $15 for one packet each of all 15 flavors (plus $2 or so for shipping). Call 866-333-7403, extension 800 (I talked to Amanda).
  16. I know exactly what you mean....in the whole scheme of things, it's all happened pretty quickly for us (1st consult on 5/20, husband's surgery is on 7/29, but we're self-pay, so no insurance hoops). But the days seem to drag by..... So excited to get this show on the road! Makes me think of that line from When Harry Met Sally: "I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
  17. I'm Sept. 14th, too, Buttercup! Yay!
  18. I had the same thought today! Its such a strange feeling to actually have hope!
  19. Hope your hubby is ok!
  20. We got our surgery dates! My husband will be sleeved on July 29, and I'll be sleeved on Sept. 14!!! So excited....Hope these next 2+ months pass quickly!!
  21. I emailed info@bariatricchoice.com and they sent me a link to order free samples.
  22. In the baby section at Target, etc. they have little containers that have 3-4 compartments for baby formula. I would think those would work well.
  23. I'm so excited that we finally got our surgery dates today! My husband will be sleeved on July 29, and I will be sleeved on Sept. 14!!!
  24. Love that idea, BarrySue!
