Day 3 post op... Feeling much better, finally can see some.light at the end of the tunnel. Havent felt hungry at. still on 'free liquids'.I know I expected pain but nothing prepared me for th back and should pain.. this hurt much more than the op (tummy incisions) I didn't have a drain and was walking day 1. Good luck to you all. It's a very tough couple of days but it doesn't get easier. I hope to be going home in the morning.. Can't wait as I cannot sleep in this bed! x x Thanks for this post. I've heard a bunch of people say during their hospital time in post-op, they were in so much pain they were regretting the decision to have surgery but months later they were happy they did it. I always have back and shoulder pain and I don't really know what this surgery would do to the back or shoulders. I thought it would all be abdominal pain. Hopefully they give you some good meds to keep you hurting too badly. Morning! The shoulder pain was due to the air being pumped into you during op.. that went with alot of arm movement exercise eat. the back and side pain was excessive lying on my back. I was in op for 4 hours then another 3.5 in recovery. had complications but all went well over all. Since I put some ibroprofen gel on my back last night I haven't needed any meds for the tummy!! I met a lady who had the surgery 4 years ago (she was visiting the patient next to me) she popped her head in to say don't give up and even tho your having a very bad time it's worth it. seing how good she looked really helped!! I hope to be going home today so I'm feeling positive ????

Headaches and Nausea
Hi Jay! Tiredness is absolutely going to be there. Your body is going through a major event and it's going to be working overtime to heal up after being messed with. Your blood pressure may drop (very common post surgery) and that also makes one tired. As for the headaches... I haven't experienced any. Dehydration can often cause the headaches and as long as you keep sipping (harder than it sounds) then you should be okay with regard to the headaches. I only experienced nausea the day of surgery and 2 days post. That was mostly due to the anesthesia though. Once I got to eat "normal" foods, if I eat too quickly I experience some nausea, but I've learned to slow the heck down and it makes a huge difference. I've had hair loss for years so I don't know if it's increased or stayed the same. Like ShrinkingPeach, I have a ton of hair so I'm not too worried about the loss right now. My experience has been fantastic! I'm really pleased with my results thus far (I was sleeved 5/28). I've hit and come through one stall (there will be more I'm sure). I have zero regrets. sorry I don't know know why I haven't seen your message untill now!! That you for your advice. my surgery is Friday so really trying to organise myself. I have fine hair so I'm really worried about losing it!! How is your journey going??

Sept date I am all set
Jay05 My surgeon told me that the liquid diet prior to your surgery helps the healing. It is less painful and heals faster. It wouldn't hurt right. My surgery date is set for September 14 in California. I am on a liquid diet at the moment with a small meal in the evening. Headaches are awful!! But from what I've read on this site.. it gets easier!! How are you feeling about your surgery? not long for you either. I can believe mine is in 2 days!!!

Sept date I am all set
I had my pre op assessment yesterday (uk). I asked about the pre op diet and was told that my surgeon in particular doesn't request his patients to go on a diet however if I was under the care of 1 of the other 2 surgeons they would have liked me to go in a 2 week milk diet!! My surgery is next Friday! conflicting information... Maybe if should just do a strict liquid diet.. guess it can't hurt. Has anyone else been told they don't need to be on a pre op diet??

Keep WLS a secret from family and friends...
Hi Thanks for sharing. You really have to be prepared for this journey... I've had WLS before that went horribly wrong. Now I am re-embarking on this journey nearly 7 years later. One thing I can tell you is that it's not the easy way out. Having surgery is a life long commitment to being on the ball forever. It's not like a diet where u can say oh I'm going for a meal I will carry on my diet the next day. You will need to learn about nutrition alot more after WLS than ever before. Trust me don't feel like your taking the easy way out. A doctor once told me... Obesity is a disease and WLS is just the medication you need. Good luck on your journey I hope everything goes well for you! x

Keep WLS a secret from family and friends...
- Pre-op diet - Help Motivation Needed!
I'm not sure we call it the insurance here but it's same process... blood tests, sleep studies, x ray, endoscopy and weight management. it's a 18 month process in total so I am nearer the end which will be my surgery!! I started my diet today had 2 shakes and went on a 20 min walk during my lunch. looking foward to lentil Soup in a hr or so. Going to make lemon Water to drink later.. as water is soo bland!! how is ur journey going?? oh and I haven't told anyone about my surgery so can't join Facebook :-( xx- Keep WLS a secret from family and friends...
I had VGS done about 10 months ago, and have had time to reflect on the journey so far, so here's my perspective. What you're going through now is all part of the process, first you question the severity of having to resort to surgery, you ask what's wrong with me, then how are we going to tell everyone and the fear of their reaction, then making the committment along with the doubts that it might not work. But, what's going to happen to YOU if you do nothing? Are you going to suddenly find that perfect diet or your inner athlete just because everyone tells you that's the best way to do it? Or is it more likely that your weight keeps going up and your body keeps getting damaged? So, embrace the process, some parts of it is going to be hard and painful, the potential remarks from family may hurt, but its a test of your resolve. When you are where I am in a year, it will be up to you to determine if it was worth it. A year ago I could barely walk, my hip had deteriorated, my knees were bad, lower back problems, on CPAP, diabetes and cholesterol meds, and I felt old (I'm in my 60's). Today, I walk at least two miles a day or more, off CPAP and meds, I feel better than I did in my 50's. Life is great, totally worth it! Good luck in your journey, make it about you. Thank you so much for you response.. ı found your words really touching. You reminded me once again why I chose to take this path in the 1st place. It's already been a hard journey since Jan 2014! Everything seems to take alot longer in the UK. I can't wait to feel fit and healthy again! x - Pre-op diet - Help Motivation Needed!
