  1. Hi guys its been a little while since Ive been on here! Just living life and adjusting to my new self. I am almost one month post op on July 10th!! Yeah I have lost nearly 30 lbs since surgery!!! Im excited to see the progress! Ok so my big delema is this I can't stand meat it grosses me out super bad to chew it up for so long in my mouth. I have had it in soups steamed broiled baked and BBQ. I have tried chicken breast and thighs. Pork chops, pork butt, ham, beef diffrent cuts n sword fish, salmon, tuna and shrimp. The problem I have is that as I chew my protien I start to get a mental image along with what Im eating and start breaking down it down as I chew. For instance I will get a visual of the texture I see skin and layers of fat veins the blood and so on,I connect the mental image with the food in my mouth and I get so grossed out I can barely swallow without gaging!! I know there are lots of other protiens besides meat. I am just wondering if any one has had this weird thing happen also certain sents and odors I cant stand!! Any one have this issue?? Thanks in advanced for any input and feedback!!!

    June Sleevers!

Hey laguerr13 my sleeve brother form another surgeon!???? lol. I am so happy to hear how awsome you've been doing I always like reading your post because you really make sence and you keep it real. Mostly cause we were renewed on the same date June 10th! I wish I could say im doing as well with my eating like you seem to be doing. My issue is that I can not tolerate meat at all and believe me I have tried very lean chicken breast, thighs, Beef in several diffrent cuts from tri tip, to T- bone and beyond. Fish ive had sword fish and salmon shrimp and crab meat and even sardines. I have never been a big meat eater to begin with but now since we have to chew our food so thouroghly I have been experiencing this weird thing where I begin to get a mental picture of the meat Im eating and I begin to breakdown it down in my head the texture, the fibereous meat, the layers of fat and the veins and blood even by the time Im done chewing my food (Im sorry TMI) in gaging and can barely swollow what Ive just chewed up! I try not to think about it,i try to distract my thought but I just get so grossed out by meats no matter how its prepared. My fear is that I will never be able to eat meats again and enjoy them. Another thing Im having issues with is im very sensative to certain scents and odors. I cant stand the smell of very strong spices or fried foods cigaretts and for a while a lot of things smelled like onions or vinager to me but no one else!! Its really kind of weird! But to end this on a possative note I have lost 33 lbs since surgery my presurgery weight was 235 and today I weigh 203 lbs I feel great and starting to look pretty good!

    Can't stand to eat meat!

@ BLERDgirl thank for the feedback. I would prefer to eat a total vegitarian diet but when I spoke with my surgeon he told me I can maintain a better protien based diet by aquiring most of my protien from lean meats. And that its more difficult to maintain a high protien diet on a vegan and vegitarian diet. I just never had a problem with eating meats till now.
  6. @ rgodfrey09 you gotta do what you gotta do lol.! was sleeved on the 10th! The gas pain was so horrible it was in my back and shoulders! What honestly helped was I had my girls and my boyfriend pat my back like you would a baby. I could feel the air travel in my body so I leaned over my bed squated sorta and had my daughter pat my back in that possition. It took a good while but i finally managed to get that very painful gas bubble out it kinda hurt coming out but once I passed that air /gas bubble I could move without pain and in no time I was passing gas out both ends!!! Ahhhh relief! The stories we live to tell.????
  7. @ work2Bskinny I was sleeved June 10! and early on I had such severe gas pains mostly in my back and shoulders. What really helped me our was that I told my kids and boyfriend to pat my back like a baby and burp me! It took a good long while and although this is embarassing i had to squat and streach as my daughter patted my lower back till finally I passed gas pretty hard and only then was I able to move without pain and the suddenly I was passing gas out both ends and got rid of the pain. Total relieve! Try it dont know it!

@ TheOnlyDuchess here maybe this will help During your first four weeks following surgery, you will need to adhere to a diet beginning with liquids only and progressing to soft pureed foods. Higher than average Protein intakes are necessary in the bariatric patient. There are four major nutrition goals to follow after surgery. They include consuming the right amount of protein that will help minimize the loss of lean body mass and help healing. Patients should also learn how to eat properly, which will help them with your overall and long term weight loss goals. Weight loss should occur in a safe and healthy way. Next, always consume enough fluids to maintain hydration. Lastly, consume the proper nutrients through Vitamins and mineral supplements throughout the day. Most patients will take an acid-blocking medication for at least 12 weeks following surgery, which helps reduce the risk of ulcers. A Multivitamin, Calcium citrate tablets, Vitamin B12 and other vitamins may also be recommended. Stages of Post-Operative Gastric Sleeve Diet Phase 1 – Clear Liquid DietPhase 2 – Full Liquids DietPhase 3 – Soft Foods DietPhase 4 – Regular Foods Diet Approved Clear Liquids: Water 100% Whey Protein Isolite Bullets 25 or 42 gram Propel Ice chips flavored water broth (Chicken or Beef) Consommé Skim milk sugar-free Jell-O Sugar-free Popsicles Crystal Light, Sugar-free Tang Mild tea (no cinnamon), green teas Low-sugar apple juice or cranberry juice Fruit ices (without chunks of fruit) Sugar-free Kool-Aid Phase 2 Diet – Full Liquids Diet – 8 through 21 Days After Gastric Sleeve Watch our Video on Phase 2. Watch our Video on Phase 2. In the second diet phase patients will transition from strictly Clear Liquids to soft foods (phase 3). This stage will focus on consuming more protein while consuming the required 64 daily ounces. In this stage you are focusing on consuming 60 to 70 grams of protein daily.

Huh something doesnt sound right about this. Most people postop can't tollerate milk very well and protien comes from many diffrent sources. You can purchase Whey protien powder thats tasteless and add it to most anything! You need to seriously check with a NUT!

@ TheOnlyDuchess wait i don't follow you are almost 22 days post surgery and are still on full liqiuds?? You should be on at least phase two which is pureed/mushies if not very close to soft foods. Are you getting your protiens in that is super important!

    Smoking & PreOp cheating

@@clopezrogina I feel you on being nervous had the same problem with the smoking and the cheating on the liquid preop diet. My advise to you is stop smoking period its just a few more days till surgery and I know how hard it is to quite believe me I know but stopping sooner is better. Then the second thing is I know how hard it is to not cheat in the prop diet cause you get this mental thing that tells you OMGEE im never going to be able to eat Pizza or a hamburger!!!! once I have my surgery!!! you start tripping and sudenly want to eat everything! Right I know... if you have cheated well hun you cant uncheat now silly but from here on out its best to stick to the preop diet cause for one its helps you to prepare for how you will HAVE TO eat for a while after surgery seriously. But the most important no cheat days are the three day clear liquid days prior to surgery and the bowel cleanse the night before!! Super important!!! Best of luck to you and just food for thought If you cant control your eating now theres a good chance that once you heal you may just cheat later on and you'll be defeating the whole reason for the surgery. Remember this is not a magic pill and the weight is going to come off! Surgery is just a tool that you are given succes is up to us and how we utalize what we are given the amount of work you are willing to sacrafice to get results it strickly up to us???? best of luck to ya!
  14. Hello eveyone on this side of our journey! Well its been eight days since I was sleeved and its the first time I have felt true hunger since my surgery! I am still on a liquid diet but have not been able to tolerate very much besides shakes broth wat er and popsicles! So today I woke up super hungry my stomach was growling so I made myself some oatmeal that I had left over from my preop diet I was barely able to get in about four teaspoons full and i felt some pain and discomfort after words so I decided not to try anything else. When will I be able to eat again without pain?

@@sferriol hang in there sis its oneday at a time!!! you got this....me Im like can I just smell it? Lick it? Ahhh hunger hit hard!! Just wait till we have skinny girl problems????Lyn,You are so right. I have news to share. First off made it through one more day! Second of all I started this crazy adventure on 6/10/15 weighting in at 318lbs and yesterday I weighed in on 296.5 lbs. I haven't seen 200 in a very long time. This just makes me want to be a good girl. I know there will be days we break down, but like Lyn says..."just can't wait till we have skinny girl problems". Thanks Lyn and anyone else who has taken time from their lives to share their positivity. I needed to hear that. Awe shucks???? your welcome love!! Mama said there'd be days like this....we have all made the decison to change what ever it was in our lives that made us add layer upon layer weather it was to protect us from heartache, rejection, family, molestation, rape, abuse, fear,or comfort...gosh how many times did I hear"Lynn you have such a pertty face.....if you would just take care of your body....but no one offered a solution or cared enough about the fat girl to get to the core of what made me self loath and lose self control. But that is no longer relevant I am just happy that at 45yrs old I now have tool that I will use to dicipline myself and become that healthy beautiful woman that WILL shed years of built up unessisary layers and take pride in knowing that this life altering change we have all undergone that is irreversable we will struggle and fall but we will slowly emerge Renewed transformed and stronger than ever....not cause our society dictates but rather because it is our time to thrive and shine....look out Kardashians,JLo get ready for a whole new bread of women ????% real women who have struggled but overcoming all the hate and cruelty media society and culture threw at us.....I vow that as I become my new self I will do everthing that I can to encourage and help any "Obese person" still trapped in a world of hurt!!
  16. @@wascott best of luck to you. Remember breath deeply to get proper oxygen exchange and out. Rest whenever possible and walk walk walk ....You will do great! ???? Cheers to a new you....may the Lord deliver you gently on you new journey!
