I did a search for that book and can't find it. Where did you get it? Thanks.

Pre-Op Liquid Diet
I'd check and see if that's a typo. My NUT said 20-25 grams a meal.

Time of the month during tt?
On a previous surgery, my doc told me no surgery while on my period because of increased chance of bleeding. Might want to ask your doc. Although I hear quite a few women start while in the hospital due to hormonal changes.

CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.
Any suggestions of what to do for nasal pillows that irritate and rub your nose? I always end up pulling it off during the night!

Interested in the Sleeve, Dr. recommended Bypass
I went in thinking sleeve, but my surgeon was more in favor of bypass. One reason was due to the number of long term retrospective studies on the bypass. She,and others, have told me that there just isn't enough long term data to know how the sleeve will effect us years down the road. I also have to be really honest. One of the reasons I wanted the sleeve is so I wouldn't be limited in food choices or have the consequence of dumping. I literally wanted to have my cake and eat it too. What I realized I was doing (not saying this is true of anyone else) was wanting just enough surgery to help me lose weight but not my eating fun. I'm a food addict - food needs to stop being about pleasure for me. That's what got me here. Yes I worry about having to take Vitamins forever, malabsorption, ulcers, leaks but my doc assures me that if I eat like I should that those chances are minimal. Wishing you the best of luck in making the decision that's right for you. You are the one who has to feel good about it!!

Playing the Waiting Game
Whoops, hit the wrong button and posted! I feel that I've been getting ready for this for over 40 years! Guess I just needed to vent and get some support and encouragement. Not telling anyone but my bff what kind of surgery so I don't have anyone to talk to (except for the most awesome psychologist!). Thanks for listening!

Playing the Waiting Game
It's so hard to wait!! Spent the last two years in treatment for food addiction, had my required three month supervised diet in addition to that and was all set mentally for an August 20 surgery! Unfortunately, my hematologist keeps wanting to run tests ( 6 weeks of testing now), and we won't know the results in time for me to do a two week prep for surgery. ???? Then my sister and my father are both heading out of town. Both have asked me not to have surgery until they are back. Dad won't be back until September 12!! I know it's only an additional month but it seems like forever. I had wanted a good three months of my new life before the pressures of the holidays.

WLWarrior - which surgery did you have? Did you have any trouble staying on or taking your Wellbutrin XR?

What Are Your Must-Have Foods?
I wish I was one who loves Greek yogurt. It just seems so tart to me. I'm hoping my tastes will change post-surgery and that I will then love it!

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
How many of you are doing the bypass? I see sleeve and lap band, but I am a bit confused as this is a bypass thread. Rebecca, is the FB group for sleevers or for anyone having surgery in August?

Official August thread! Where are you guys?
What is the facebook address for the August folks? I'm probably August 20!!

Aspartame
@@Djmohr What did you do about Protein shakes? Or Popsicles and pudding during liquid/soft phase? Did you add honey that early in the process? Did it cause dumping? Great news about your migraines! Mine have become intractable (24/7). It would be so great if some migraine relief was a byproduct of the bypass!!

Ability to Exercise
Where did you get that mini elliptical? I have a full size one and really like it, but it takes up so darn much room!

Aspartame
I need suggestions for Aspartame free jello, puddings and Popsicles. I'm pre-op and know I'm going to live on these for a while. Aspartame triggers migraines for me.

A little off 2 week diet pre-surgery.....
I haven't had surgery yet, but I'd encourage you to tell the doc. The rules and guidelines they set up are to keep you safe during and after surgery. Plus, I don't know about you, but my hiding food or lying about it is one of the things that got me here. I know I have to be ruthlessly honest with myself and others, particularly my docs, if this is going to work long term.

Surgery Now or Later?
I have heard wls compared to Antabuse for alcoholics. It stops the Problem initially but the hard work takes place after that but at least the person is dry. I think that's probably a good comparison for me. I'll update you all after I visit with my psych later this week. Thank you so much for all the words of wisdom!

Surgery Now or Later?
I definitely want this surgery and would very much like to go ahead and have it in August. While my psych has written a letter of clearance, he has asked me to think about whether or not I'm rushing this. I know it may seem rushed to some since I just formally started this in May, but it's something I've been thinking about for a long time. That being said, I realize that in order for this to be successful that there have to be psychological and spiritual changes as well as physical. I am a food addict. That is not something I say easily or lightly. It's not an excuse. It's my reality. I've turned to food like many turn to other substances to self soothe. I know surgery won't heal the addiction but it will bring me head to head with all the thoughts and emotions that contribute to the addiction. I do not want to sabotage this exciting opportunity by not being ready to deal with the addiction. I think I can deal with it as I work thru the post-surgery stages. He wants to be sure my reasoning for August is solid, and so I'm undertaking a thoughtful process and writing the "pros and cons" not because I'm unsure but because I want to be sure that I'm doing it now in the right frame of mind.
