If it happens again, throw something at her, like a gym shoe. That should work. Seriously, steer clear of toxic people. She obviously has some personal issues. The majority of people would NOT make that statement. If your doctors increased your calories and carb consumption, it sounds like there was a good reason for it. Have you talked to them about the weight gain ? This may only be a temporary set-back as your body gets use to the change.
  2. Has anyone stayed in the accommodations at florence Hospital ? I just looked at a few photo's and read a little about it. It seems nice. Apparently, you can stay there after discharge.

I also had a hard time drinking water. Now, 6 weeks in, it is getting better. Even drinking milk or protein shakes went down smoother than water.
  4. Cranberry pills ! You can find them in most grocery stores. They are typically gel tablets and you can find them with the natural supplements. Follow the directions on the bottle regarding how much to take daily - taking more during an episode and maybe just taking two daily with your Vitamins on a regular basis. Take them with Water and just try to drink as much water as you can. Stay away from any other drinks during an episode. If you keep your cranberry pills on hand, and start to feel it, you can begin taking them immediately. I've always relied on them and its kept me from having to go to the doctor for an antibiotic.

    well, poo!

One week. There just isn't much there when you are on fluids only. My second week was 6 days, and now 4 days and I am 3 weeks post op today. I used be very regular so its definitely different.

    5 days post op

I was the same and at 3 weeks post op, I still have to push myself a bit to get water down, but I'm getting there. Just try to take a sip every 15 minutes if you can. At about 10 days post op, I was able to get protein shakes down pretty smoothly. I liked sugar fee vitamin water before my surgery and now its too sweet ! I know this might sound yucky but I keep an eye on the color of my pee to ensure I am getting enough fluids. If it's light in color, I am getting enough fluids.

Greek yogurt pureed with sugar free jam or sugar free vanilla ice cream pureed with your favorite flavored Protein Powder, then I refreeze it for an hour. I use Matrix PB - tastes like yummy Peanut Butter ice cream. Refried Beans with grated cheese (melted). I have had Rosa's (if you have one near you, but don't know if they are vegetarian, I've read Taco's Bell's is.) I also have a recipe for refried beans I am going to try. I also have hummus on my list with unflavored protein powder. Haven't tried that yet.

    4 days post op

I am 16 days post op. It took me about 10 days before I could get fluids down more easily. It would take an hour just to get a 4 oz Protein Shake down, and I was pushing myself to get the protein in. Water was the same and it still takes me a while to get down, but improving. I don't know why, but a protein shake goes down more smoothly than water. Weird.
  10. I start Wednesday and I am planning to start my first few days with 2 tbsp of pureed tuna salad or 2 tbsp of pureed egg salad, and 2 tbsp of applesauce. I will only add a little light mayo and a little greek yogurt to the meat salads, plus seasoning. I may also try pureeing yellow squash (skins removed) with a teeny bit of butter or a small amount of sweet potato (maybe 1tbsp) I would do carrots, but I am not crazy about cooked carrots. I love broccoli but can't have that yet. Do you have a nutritionist ? I am meeting with mine via Skype on Wednesday. I plan to ask him for more ideas.
  11. I am also struggling with trying to get enough fluids, but I am doing two 6 oz Protein shakes per day at 23 grams protein each. Then I will blend a nonfat greek yogurt (18 grams protein) with less than half a scoop (about 10 grams protein) of Jay Robs vanilla egg white protein powder, and a tbsp of unsweetened almond milk. So all three have a combined total of about 75 grams of protein per day and total approx. 550 calories. Yes, your Protein drinks count as fluids. I also think it is very important in the beginning to focus on getting your protein in which may increase your calories, but you are healing from surgery and trying to maintain your energy
  12. I just had the sleeve on the 17th, but my husband had it in 2012. He stayed away from beer for about the first 6 months because it didn't go down well. Now, on occasion he will have a beer, but can't drink any more than one because he says, "it just feels me up, so why bother." I think you may find you will have a difficult time eating a slice of pizza and drinking a beer at the same time or at least not be able to drink very much of it.

I get hungry too. Lots of people post here that they never feel hungry but I definitely do. I don't have any cravings though which is nice. Funny but I'm most excited about eggs too. I was sleeved on the 15th I get hungry too, but I feel its my body just craving nourishment. Once I've had something, even a protein shake, I feel better. I am most excited about meat !

    June Sleevers!

My surgery was on the 17th. I am feeling pretty good. I am taking just the Prilosec and gas strips occasionally, but I am not having any real issues with that anymore. I was Clear Liquids days 1-4, and now on full liquids until 2 weeks post op. I have been doing zero Vitamin Water, tomato basil Soup, squash soup, mushroom soup, greek yogurt, and Protein shakes. I add unjury chicken soup flavored protein to my Soups, a little milk or almond milk and blend. I also blend Jay Rob vanilla egg white protein into my greek yogurt. Because I've been adding Protein powder into anything I can, I am able to get about 50-60 grams of protein per day. The hardest thing for me is trying to drink enough fluids. I am doing ok, but I get full just on water. Drinking water feels the same to me as having soup or yogurt. What about you ?

    June Sleevers!

My husband had a lot more pain than I did post op and he had a hernia repair. I did not. That could be the difference. He was feeling much better after about two weeks.
  16. I had my surgery June 17th. Roberto picked us up from the airport on the 16th and I had a Chest X-ray and EKG, then settled-in at the Sage. On surgery day, they did labwork. All was good, but they found I was anemic. I then met with the internist, then Dr. Luna, then Dr. Zavalza. I can't remember the internist's name, which I feel awful about because she was very nice and even helped my husband who had a swollen knee. She was very concerned about him, brought Dr. Luna in to evaluate him, etc. Surgery was done at 2 pm. The surgery took about 45 minutes. I felt great for the first few hours after surgery, little to no pain, but then they found that my drain was taking on quite a bit of blood, much more than it should. Dr. Luna ordered an ultrasound immediately and found that all was fine. They stopped the medication I was given to reduce acid reflux (which you can get a lot of, right after surgery) and something else to counteract the blood thinner, so that my blood loss wouldn't be so rapid. Dr. Luna's shift ended at 9 pm, but he stayed until after 1 am to make sure I was good to go. He spent a lot of time in my room, talking to my husband, and keeping an eye on me. Can you imagine an American doctor doing that ?? Everything in the end turned out well, no issues, I just had a set-back and seemed to recover slower than other patients that were there recovering from the same surgery. I think that it's just one of those things that can happen to anyone. They were ready to give me a blood transfusion and Iron injections if I needed it, but I did not. Overall, I can't say enough about the team of Zavalza and Luna. I felt like I was in great hands, and I think that's what most people worry about when they go to Mexico to have surgery. "What if I have complications?" Well, to be honest, I felt that I received much better care there, at florence Hospital and with Dr. Zavalza and Dr. Luna than I have received here in the states. It's sad, but true. They were far more attentive there. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them. Dr. Luna even followed up with my husband to take care of his swollen knee ! I have my one week follow up with Dr. Luna tomorrow via Skype or phone and he will continue to provide follow-up care. Feel free to ask me any questions about my experience with Dr. Zavalza and Dr. Luna, Florence Hospital, or anything else you think may help you !
  17. Here I am in Tijuana. Arrived yesterday at florence Hospital via Roberto and San Diego Airport. I am staying at the Sage (hospital hotel). It is located on the 5th floor. I had my EKG and Chest Xray yesterday. I arrived in my room at 4 pm and they brought me chicken broth, bottles of Water, and Jello, two separate times, at about 5 pm and again at about 7 pm. My husband and I walked around the neighborhood a bit, down to the boardwalk, and on the beach. It was nice, especially after coming from hot Fort Worth, which is currently experiencing heavy downpours ! We left just in time ! Dr. Luna (the nutritionist) came by my room yesterday evening at about 9 pm to check on me and introduce himself. He was very polite. Dr. Luna told me that they would be coming to get me around 10 am to transfer to the actual hospital room, where I will be recovering for two nights. Then I will have labwork, and meet with both Dr. Luna and my surgeon, Dr. Zavalza. My surgery is scheduled at 2 pm today. I will check-in again, possibly tomorrow or Friday with an update on my recovery ! Right now I don't care about food, just wish I could have coffee

    Protein

I just wanted to put out there that if you are a lover of peanut butter, I am really enjoying Matrix Peanut Butter Cookie protein shake. Yum ! Its the only protein shake I actually look forward to. I mix it with unsweetened almond milk.

I had my surgery on the 10th also everything is fine except I cant seem to get 64oz of fluids down for the life of me Its too much then I feel bloated and my belly aches...and forget about food not happening just yet! I hope this part of the transition and that it will pass. In any case best of luck to all Hi LynRey, I'm having problems getting enough liquid as well. My program does not do protein shakes or powder or anything like that either. It's clear liquids right after surgery and then modified liquids for two weeks. So, day 2 of modified and unable to get down more than a couple of licks off the spoon. They say only three "meals" a day with liquids in between. So now I'm thinking this is where my headache is coming from. My body is in starvation mode. I get light-headed, dizzy, and just feel like crud. They have been very clear that protein shakes are a no-no so I'm unsure how to proceed at this point. I'm going to call the NUT tomorrow and hope for a remedy. I will be interested in hearing back what your Nut's response is. Sounds a bit rough

I am also the 17th and the nerves are really starting to kick in. I agree, this site has been a fantastic source of info !
  21. I've only lost 5 lbs so far and my surgery is on Wednesday (in 4 days). That loss was in the first week, and I haven't lost anything since then. I started at 221 in April, then was at 213 at the start of my preop. I went to 208 lbs, then back up to 210, then down to 208 again. Not sure whats happening. I am allowed two shakes and one meal per day, consisting of a salad/vegies and fish or chicken. I am drinking a lot of Water. I am going to step up my exercise today. Maybe that will help... I don't have a certain amount I am supposed to lose, just the pre-op diet restrictions. I am allowed to have a light Breakfast the day before surgery, then only clear fluids after that. Its frustrating when I read about others losing 10-30 lbs, although I know that many are on shakes/water only. But, I still see others are losing a lot more than me and they are on a very similar diet.

Because I was having a hard time tooting in the hospital, they gave me a suppository ( I know... Yuck) BUT, it cleared my system really well of gassy stuff too...sooo it is definitely worth asking about to make sure all systems are working! I'm glad all of us have gotten through this week and are feeling better and ready to start rockin the weight loss! Good idea. I am having surgery in Tijuana and I am guessing they will give me one if I ask for one, but I might bring some just incase. This is common after most surgeries when you have been put under general anesthesia. It can take several days for your body to get back on track and by day 4, I would certainly do something to help it along.

I thought about this a lot myself, but then I thought, if someone actually asked me flat-out, that would really be quite rude of them, and quite frankly, I would tell them so ! Of course, there are many that will be thinking it. They just won't come out and say it. I think the answer is, you are not obligated to answer or explain anything to anyone, unless you so choose

    Dr. Zavalza

Will do ! I did the same thing, going back and forth between different doctors before narrowing it down to Dr. Zavalza. For me, it's the team of both Dr. Zavalza and Dr. Luna that helped me make my decision
