  1. Haha... That's great! I remember my CB handle was baby face.
  2. I was dehydrated by the end of my second week. I had to force myself to get more liquids. I felt better immediately. This may sound odd, and it is purely psychological, but I now buy the small 8 oz bottles of water. Trying to finish the small bottle is just not as daunting a task. When you have finished 8 in a day, you get your 64 oz. it works great for me.
  3. It is not his body. It is yours. He might be concerned about it, but if he loves you he will eventually support you.
  4. I am 5'0" (60 inches). I was taking my measurements and my hips were 60" and I thought "oh my God I'm square." Decided I would go on one last weight loss journey.
  5. Saw this is a restaurant bathroom today
  6. I get hungry too. I have learned to have a bottle of water with me all of the time. It does help with the hunger. It also doesn't help that you are 8 days post-op and in your liquid phase. For me I puréed cream soups high in calories after the clear liquid phase. It helped with the hunger. Hang it! It gets better.
  7. I'm sorry you are struggling. I remember those feelings all too vividly from before surgery. The only way to succeed is just keep trudging forward. And not giving up. I realized early on with my sleeve that I still have a food obsession. But I have redirected the obsession. Now I obsess over logging my food and deciding what to eat and setting timer on my phone for 30 mins so it will go off before and after meals. Go ahead and obsess. Just do it in a different way. Sorry I can't give you a hug... But you know I'm thinking about it. Keep going. Please don't give up.
  8. I have mentioned here before that I was definitely addicted to diet cokes. I weened myself before I even started my pre-op diet. I don't miss them anymore mostly because it was something I knew I needed to give up whether I had surgery or not. I wanted to give them up because they are just not good for me. A definite unhealthy habit.
  9. I normally only weigh on Mondays but I knew I was close. I started my pre-op diet on 5-26 and was sleeved on 6-15 and hit 30 pounds lost today since 5-26. That is about 4.25 pounds per week average. I am pleased with that rate.
  10. Try Sonic's lemon-lime mint Water. It's refreshing
  11. Gosh if I ate the things I ate before surgery in moderation, I might die lol. I look back now at what I ate and it's a wonder I was just obese. Everything was processed and fast food and out of a grocery freezer. I love to cook but I have no time for it. I will also have to learn how to cook new stuff. None of my favorite recipes are healthy. As I go through this initial phase, my Fsmily is feeding themselves for the most part. I am also learning to be more assertive in restaurants and getting them to bring me just what I need and what is allowed for me. I know this sounds crazy but learning how to eat out is key for me.
  12. That is good to know! I will start paying attention to the types of carbs I get. I was avoiding anything that had carbs other than my proteins and shakes. I had no energy. I have added oatmeal and Greek yogurt and legumes. I will pay close attention how my body reacts. I am in my 5th week post-op and I am still learning. It's like an information overload! Lol
  13. I would be inclined to agree with you but everything I have read and researched eventually indicated otherwise. Here is a link to a study that was done and the results showed better weight loss after VSG for patients that maintained at least 90 gr of carbs per day based on an 850 calorie diet. That is between 40-45%. http://bariatrictimes.com/recommended-levels-of-carbohydrate-after-bariatric-surgery/ Personally I have set my daily goal at 40% carbs; 45% Proteins and 15% fats. I absolutely agree that proteins are the priority. The major problem with getting too few carbs is that once the body runs out of our daily carb intake, it starts to burn up our protein intake which is counter- productive. It's definitely very interesting and quite the learning experience
  14. You have motivated me! I drove by a gym today and nearly stopped. Tomorrow I will go. It will be quite a while until I catch up with you. But I am going to start! Thanks!
  15. I think my brain my explode. It is amazing to me what I did not know about Nutrition and how much I have learned through this process. It's no wonder I have been obese for so long. I realize a lot of you may already know this stuff or have learned it from your nutritionist but I have had to figure this stuff out on my own. So, I am going to impart some of what I have learned on the assumption that I am not the only clueless person here ????. And if I am the only clueless person, please be gentle lol. 1. Balanced nutrition - Protein, carbs, and fats. An emphasis is certainly put on protein. It is the priority. However, Carbs and fats are also important. The balance of nutrition should be as close as we can get to: carbs - 40-50% of daily calories; protein - (women) 46% - (men) 56% of calorie intake; this doesn't leave much room for fat. The reason is fats contain 9 calories per gram whereas Proteins and carbs contain 7 calories per gram so less is required. Carbs - this is your body's main source of energy. If you don't consume enough carbs, your body will then begin to burn protein (which is vital in WLS). Get healthy sources of protein from Apple juice, apple sauce, Potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits, legumes, oatmeal, milks, etc. This is where I was making my mistake. Because Of this I was weak and tired and losing slowly. Protein - this is our priority during WLS. You will be pounded protein protein protein. One important thing to keep in mind.... The human body can only absorb 20-30 grams of protein per hour. Anything consumed above this amount is converted to glucose. So if you pad your protein intake by adding protein to a Protein shake, you are actually drinking a high glucose protein shake. In addition, you are falling short on your daily protein requirement because some has been converted to glucose. Fat - there are so many hidden fats in our foods even if you eat healthy. If you eat a banana to get your carbs, they have fats. Avocados have fats. If you wisely choose 3 ounces of grilled salmon it contains 10 gr of fat and at a low calorie intake that could be close to your total allowance. If you use MyFitnessPal, you can go into your goals and nutrition. You can put in your daily calories you expect depending on your phase. Mine is set at 700 right now 5 weeks post op. Earlier phases will have less calories. Once you have your calories set, you can adjust your daily allowance of proteins, carbs and fats. When trying to decide how to calculate your percentages, never let your proteins get below 60 gr per day. PLEASE.... If there is any other vital info that anyone has, share it here as well. I am really enjoying learning about nutrition and heathy eating.
  16. I was sleeved in Tujuana using Dr Jesus Martin Lopez and made arrangements through BariatricPal. They did everything for me. They had someone with us all of the time to take is where we needed to go and to translate. Picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Great experience
  17. It does get better! For me the best part of the pre-op diet was that I used that to get past the carb and aspartame addiction. I have awful headaches for the first three or four days. Once those passed, it was so much easier. I was just glad I got that out of the way before surgery. Good luck!
  18. How cool! It's so good to have someone for support close by
  19. Do you measure? If the scale isn't moving, seeing the inches drop helps as encouragement. Also for me, I have noticed if I focus on my protein I do better. The more protein I get from real food, the better I lose. I have baked dark chicken meat that I keep and snack on it in between waters or have a Greek yogurt. Everyone is different so just play with it and see what works for you. Good luck and you will do great!
  20. As I am adding more food, it makes it easier to get extra protein in the evening when I'm a little short (no pun intended lol).
  21. I am 5'1... I am 51 and my BMI was 51. My high weight was 268 and I was sleeved on 6-15. I am down 27 pounds (including pre-op) and I am thrilled with my progress so far!! My goal is 130.... Not sure why but mostly because the weight charts for me with a small frame are between 106-118 and that seems impossible to me and I'm afraid I will blow away at that weight. So I'm shooting for 130 which should keep me more firmly anchored to the ground!
  22. Let me just say that I am four weeks post op and I have had 663 calories today and I'm not hungry and I am not craving anything. It takes some adjustments to figure out how to fit the new way of eating into your lifestyle. And my advise, if you want any, be patient with the liquid diet phases. It will get boring but it is temporary. Don't get in a hurry and let yourself heal. And above all else, follow your doctors advise. You can do this. You will do amazing.
  23. I am four weeks post op and am down 27 pounds. I lost 12 of that on my preop diet so I have lost 15 pounds in four weeks.
  24. I wore a pair of pants this weekend that I have not been able to wear in six months I walked from my car to the baseball field at my grandsons game without it killing me and without being completely embarrassed I am on my way to buy a new pair of samples because mine are too big!!
  25. I had a serious addiction to diet coke. I broke myself of the habit before I would allow myself to schedule my surgery. It took me months of stopping and starting. If you didn't break the habit before surgery, it may take you several months to get past the craving. But I promise you they will go away!! Hang in there!
