  1. Dang it, that should read cellulose husk that surrounds corn kernel.
  2. Fluffy, it's all about progression. just like I said earlier. Start off with no resistance and short times. Progressively increase the duration and resistance over time. And no, I just feel winded. Heart is beating fast, but I feel pretty good actually.
  3. Now that I am home, I wanted to expound upon that answer. I eat probably every 2 hours. I start off the day with protein. Then carbs two hours later. Small carb 20 minutes before the gym at lunch, then protein on the way back to the office. Then a salad. As I'm leaving, more protein. Then dinner. Then a "dessert" which is usually a protein cake. I don't care what the protein is really. Beef, chicken, whey... as long as it gets the job done. Carbs are pretty much always oats, bran or quinoa or this really great multigrain bread we've found. The salad dressing is the worst part of any salad. I don't really enjoy the eating the same as I did pre-op. I just like hitting my macros.
  4. Weeelllll, kinda sort. True insoluble fiber shouldn't count as a carb. Case in point would be the cellulose husk that cannot be digested around each kernel. While the inside is easily digestible, the husk passes through the entire digestive system.
  5. All damn day! Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
  6. Well, my goal is actually 2,000. That is just after my heart rate monitor sync'ed with MFP. I don't like to go over 2,500. But there have been days when I have hit 3,000. Usually on deadlift days.
  7. If you are new to using the elliptical, I would keep the resistance low or even at nothing. Get used to the motion of the machine. When you can do the machine for 30 minutes without worry of falling off, start getting comfortable with no hands. (for the times you need to wipe sweat or take a drink). After that, start to titrate the difficulty by increasing the resistance. The sooner you can increase the difficulty the better. Spinning your legs with no resistance will burn calories, but nowhere near what actually fighting for it does.
  8. 15 grams of carbs is nothing. Carbs are not our enemy, they are necessary for our health. It is really only an issue when the carbs take over the majority of your diet OR the only carbs you are getting are the worthless processed carbs. According to my tracking yesterday: Yeah, I wouldn't worry about 15g of carbs personally.
  9. Totally depends on your goal and how you are using the elliptical. What is your heart rate at peak? How long are you maintaining it there? Are you in cardio zone or merely burning off calories? If you are going for cardio endurance, you will want moderate heart rate for at least 20 minutes. General exercise is just keep moving for the 45-60 minutes. If you are looking to improve cardiovascular peak performance, then you will need high heart rate for 10-15 minutes. For example, I am going for cardiovascular endurance. I have an average 140 bpm heart rate for roughly 45-50 minutes (length of an episode on Netflix). On the days where I feel the need to push the envelope, I will up that into the cardio training zone of 170-180 bpm. But I can only maintain that for around 10 minutes then "rest" for 20 minutes, then pick up the pace again.
  10. I am assuming that she is from either Canada or the UK. She also gives her weight in kilograms. It is common for the date format to be day-month-year (dd-mm-yyyy)in those areas. It actually makes a lot more sense to have it that way. Here at work, I name my files with date stamps in yyyy-mm-dd format so that they sort properly. So in this situation, her surgery date may be Dec 2nd 2017.
  11. Belligerent? What in the world are you talking about? I now honestly believe you are nucking futz. You now have your wish, I won't offer any more information.
  12. Since I am the one who asked if you were making this a gender issue, I can only assume that you are insulating that I am slow. However, you explicitly said women 3 times in your post. Not "people" or "members" or even "guys"; you said women. Since you expressly excluded men, that sounds like a gender specific issue. Don't blame me for your poor communication skills. You are making it very difficult for anyone to even want to help you.
  13. I have always had high BP, that is until this surgery. It seems surreal to me that my doctor now tells me I need to start salting my food. It's amazing how quickly I feel better after salt hits the blood stream! Does an increase of sodium affect you that way?
  14. Hmmm, changes within the inner ear would account for the dizziness, but not for the darkening of vision while standing. That is almost always related to blood pressure. Either hypo or hypertension can cause vision issues like the ones described.
  15. Are you walking every 20 minutes or so? I remember when I was recovering, it was February and there was snow and ice everywhere so I had to pace the hall of my house. Very boring but I would pace it back and forth about 10 times. The motion of walking helps pass the air bubbles through. If the weather is inclement in your area, have someone drive you to a mall or Walmart and just make slow laps around the place. Walking really is the best medicine/tip for dealing with gas.
  16. I literally laughed out loud at that!
  17. I am familiar with Urban Dictionary, but there is no way I am going there on my work computer!
  18. @Mhy12784 - if added muscle is your goal, then no. While it is true that you will need more protein & calories in order to build muscle, that protein will need to be digested first in order to make it available for synthesis. The majority of digestion takes place in the stomach. The intestines is where the digested food and nutrients is then transferred to the blood stream. If the food is washed out of the stomach before it is completely broken down, it will not be absorbed and will mostly pass through the intestines. This is more likely with bypass patients as it is textbook malabsorption. If you truly need more protein and calories in a fast absorbing form, look for a hydrolized protein. To the OP, it is exactly like you stated, a slippery slope. Eventually you can form the habit to drink while eating which will wash the food out of you stomach and you will get hungry sooner. I am almost 3 years out and the only modification I have made to the 30/30 rule originally given to me is that I will drink up until I start eating. After I start, I do not take another drink until 30 minutes after my last bite. I find that while I may at first be dying for a drink, after a few minutes, that desire fades. Only time that is it difficult is when I am eating something that is spicy (e.g. homemade habanero jelly).
  19. Sorry, according to my kids I am terminally uncool. I have no idea what that means.
  20. lol, wait a minute... are you saying this is a matter of gender? Like there is a cabal of members singling out women and attacking them for the sole reason of being female and not doing something reckless?
  21. Actually, kind & supportive are not synonymous. While you started this thread, there is a very real possibility that hundreds of people may read it. If being truthful and honest by stating what you did was not only a bad idea but possibly life threatening is not supportive to you, then aberry was being supportive to the other people whom have not commented and/or are not aware that it is most decidedly a bad idea. It always comes up in threads where recent post op members do something fooling that they play the "this place is supposed to be a judgement free zone and is all about support. This place may be supportive for many, but the intent of this website is to connect people with surgeons and then ecommerce for the bariatricpal online store for food and vitamins, and information sharing. That is it. Information and discussion first and foremost. Now back to your post on pizza. It was bad. Life threatening bad. Is crappy pizza really worth risking your life over? Would you have truly felt better if no one cared enough to tell you the truth? Since I have been here, there have been many that have broke the rules very early. I don't know why, but it is almost always pizza. Or tacos. Sometimes alcohol. Back before the great purge of vets and posts, there was even someone that died from eating solid foods within the first week. I think it was pizza, but I cannot remember for sure. Going through the posts, I don't really know all these people. I am not taking sides, but I did want to comment so that anyone that reads and doesn't comment can see a dispassionate post on the topic.
  22. Quick note about pain killers; they will constipate you. Get off them as soon as you can. Otherwise it will feel like you are trying to pass a pineapple on the john. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
  23. Oh, there was no pain associated with mine. It just felt weird. After it burst, it was disgustingly hollow. Let me mention that I am a wimp when it comes to these things. My wife and daughter thought it was the coolest thing ever. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
  24. Mine happened less than 2 weeks out. I know because it was right before I went back to work. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.
  25. Only thing I was told when I had mine was moist heat. Just so you don't freak out - I remember when mine burst open. I was in the in my chair and absently scratched at my stomach when there was an itch or tickle. I don't know if it had started leaking and that's what caused the itch, but the gentle scratch unleashed a flood. I freaked out! Dark muddy blood was flowing from my largest incision area. I shuffled to the bathroom and kept folding toilet paper to absorb the blood. I don't remember how much there was, but it seemed to continue to empty forever. And when it finally stopped and I stood back up, it started all over again. I called the hotline and they explained what was going on and told me to calm down. The next day I went to the surgeons office and they packed it with gauze and left it open to drain. It will heal from the inside out. Left with a patch of gauze taped to me and was back to normal. I ended up using a maxipad taped to my stomach for the next couple days. I joked to my boss and wife about my entire ordeal up to then. I was cranky, tired, swinging from being OK then weepy and full of regret the next, and now I was using a maxipad. Obviously I had just gotten my first period.
