1 month post op and overeating freaks me out!

I am just trying to stick to 5 oz of the Protein 4 times a day and plenty of fluids in between along with Jello and sugar free pudding in between those. I get hungry in between but when I drink a little the hunger subsides for a little bit. So in all I am getting the 64 oz of liquids plus the 60 grams of protein as well. I am 10 days post op and just about ready to add purees. But I am still waiting for the dietitian to get back to me. I just don't want to push anything that will interfere with the stomach healing.

5 days post op and constantly hungry!

I was able to tolerate 2 oz of Protein shake the 3rd day after and now I am up to 5 oz at each sitting. I do get hungry after about 30 min to an hour but make sure I sip Water or drink so I can hydrate enough. The soup is good but the protein is what will make you feel a bit fuller. I still struggle with being hungry in between but use that as an excuse to drink more fluids. I have also been writing down how much each time on a tablet. Hope this helps some. Donna from California

    Anyone from New Jersey ?

I grew up in Jersey but now I live in California. I had the same problem you have. Many folks kept telling me I didnt need surgery but I knew different. I am 5' 4' and was 202 lbs. I have sleep apnea and a bad low back not to mention several foot surgeries.I did so much on my own to better my health and wait and to no avail could not succeed. Do what you feel is best. Yes your family cares about you but they are so used to seeing you they won't say that you look bigger or are heavier. Your body will tell you when it is time for a permanent change. Donna

    Hunger

I have some hunger issues myself. I am 11 days post op and had a follow up appt yesterday. I told the dr of my concerns and am waiting for the dietitian to call me back. I did the two weeks prior to surgery mostly liquid, then the final two days clears only. I am on liquids only right now and can stomach about 5 oz at a time. I make sure I wait 30 minutes in between and am consuming 60 gms of Protein per day through shakes. The problem that I am having is I am hungry within 20 to 30 minutes of each meal. I always feeel like my stomach is soooo empty. Could it be that my body is burning the stored fat so rapidly that is why I am hungry right away? I am wondering if the dietitian will tell me to add purees already.

Hello All.. New here-date set 5/14

Who would have ever thought we would become as big as we have as adults. When I was a kid the wind could blow and I would have fallen over I was so thin. Almost looked malnourished but life happened. I am 6 days post op and my worst fear was not being able to eat - period. I really like to eat!! But I want good health too. My hair has not fallen at all, I believe if you have the right suppliments and info you will do ok. As for your sweet tea, I guess you could settle for reg Ice Tea with sweetener. I have trouble having coffee without creamer so I havent really been drinking much of that since my surgery. I think you will do just fine. Good luck, Donna

    Recovering?

I am using the Vitamelts and just put in for another order. There is absolutely no chewing they melt in your mouth and the flavors are great too. They have other suppliments too besides the Multivitamin. I get mine online from Swanson online. Hope this info helps. I also got Calcium gummy bears today.
  12. I had my first dr appointment in Sept 2014 and the insurance denied me twice because my BMI wasnt as high as they thought it ought to be. The clinic helped me resubmit and the surgeon pointed out why it was medically necessary. I have sleep apnea and a couple of other health issues due to my weight. I did like you, pills, diets cutting back and even eliminating specific foods. I kept all the good habits but still gained weight when I was not on appetite suppressnts. Finally got the ok from the insurance company, but what got me was they wanted specific documentation of everything I did to lose weight. I thought they were crazy cause we were talking about 10 or more years of paperwork. I had all but given up when I got a paper in the mail with approval. You know I was doing the happy dance. Anyway, I am 6 days post op and feeling great. Dr gave me 2 weeks off from work and I am absorbing every minute of it! Good luck, Donna

    5 weeks post op

Many times fat turns to muscle so the scale will not differentiate between the two. Another thing is the more we need to lose the faster it comes off. Maybe go back to the start, in other words right after surgery. The way we eat and drink immediately after surgery really puts a limit. I know that I have to set a 30 min timer so I know that I am drinking enough fluids and having enough Proteins. Hope this helps some.

    50 pounds lost- 2 mo postop w/pics

Thats awesome, keep up the good work.
  15. Well I was in the same boat but didnt care what others thought. We seem to have some of the same things in common, ht wt and longevity of trying not only to lose weight but to keep it off for a lifetime. I am 6 days post op and after being denied twice by my insurance company there is not one thing I would have done different. So GIRL......Go for it. I don't believe you will be sorry.

    Year and Half Later...slipping

I may have already mentioned that I am 6 days post - op but I had a lot of previous experience with forming new habits in order for this thing to be successful. I just felt determined not to let anything get in the way of results. Sometimes when I have some shake or drink I get a little crampy. I know its my new stomach processing so I usually back off. Slow and steady gets results and that is something I have to practice.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

There was a young lady that had hers done almost the same time I did. While I was in my room I could hear her violently vomiting in the next room. I made sure I followed the plan for two weeks of liquids and two days prior of fasting because that can play a major part in our recovery afterwards. When they tell us nothing to eat or drink after midnight there is a reason. It can and will affect how the anestesia works. I hope things get better for her.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

Wondering myself how well they checked for leakage after surgery. She should have been feeling better at least several days after.

    Year and Half Later...slipping

You seem to be doing great at 5 months post op, I will remember your tips myself.
  20. I was turned down twice even though I have sleep apnea and back and foot problems. I fought it, and papers after papers they wanted from different doctors. I was so angry because my struggle with weight was ongoing for over 14 years. I did program after program and went up and down like a yo-yo. The clinic I worked with was very helpful and put together a convincing proposal of how medically necessary it was and after 7 months finally got the approval. My main problem was my BMI being too low but they wanted to be blind to the declining health conditions. Don't give up, there must be something you havent thought of, make a list of all the health conditions you have due to your weight, and all the different things in the past that you have done on your own and try again. Good Luck

    Recovering?

I am 6 days post op today. Feeling much better than the last two days. I can drink up to 4 oz very slowly and carefully, but have to be careful not to over do it. Each day really does improve drastically. I actually went out to get a few things from the store this morning. And I havent had to use pain meds for two days now. I wouldnt say 100% normal but at least 45% right now. I just don't want to rush things cause Lord knows it took years for me to get here so time will get me back to good health.

    Isopure drinks

I have made shakes several different ways in the past. I would use the unflavored mix with almond milk, banana, strawberries and fruit juice. It always turned out great, but be sure and add plenty of ice.

    Isopure drinks

I found them to be very chalky and bitter, I think I will try adding sweetener to them. It could be because I was only a couple of days post op. I bought 12 of the grape frost and 12 of the punch, have yet to try the punch. I am only 5 days post op and can only stomach about two ounces at a time. I will not buy anymore I dont care for the flavor very much, but everyone is different.
