I'm in delaware county also Having surgery at UPenn

So tried to reach the officer manager and got clarification. On November 3 she submitted my paperwork to the precert department of the GI surgery at the hospital. They have to approve the surgery and then they send to my insurance. Glad I got an answer but still frustrated because they haven't made any decisions so my paperwork has not been sent to my insurance yet. My surgery date is in 1 mnth and 2 days. Really hope they start the process of getting approved quickly.

My mom had blot clots after being put on birth control that went to her lungs, so my doctor is making me have the ivc filter put in as a precaution

My sleeve surgery is scheduled for December 18th (pending insurance approval). On December 10th I have my IVC filter placement surgery. Was wondering how many people have had the IVC filter placed. Not really sure what to expect...

I have been playing phone tag with the office manager at my Dr office. I am waiting appoval from my insurance. I called my insurance and they said they are not showing anything in their system yet. I was told she submitted my info (Nov 3) to the "pre certification department" and they send info based on surgery dates. My question is - who do they think the pre cert department is with? Do you think the precert department is with my insurance? Or another part of the process at my Dr office (and once they approve they send it to my insurance?)? It confused me when she said they approve and send info based on surgery dates. So I don't know who has my application/paperwork - my doctors office still or my insurance.

I'm also waiting. My information was sent on November 3rd...still waiting UN-patiently

Congrats on your approval. It's just so frustrating. I have only a little over 1 mnth until my surgery day and they know I'm on a time limit because of work schedule - I want to be like just send it in already lol

I feel like the approval process is never ending. When I had my last weight management class I was told I would have an answer in about 2 weeks. I called my insurance today and they said they haven't received anything yet. I called and left a message at my doctor office. I just got a call back and the office manager said she sent my info to the "Surgical pre cert department" on Nov. 3. They will be the ones to submit to my insurance and that I should have an answer by the end of the month. She can't tell me when they will send it. Only they send out stuff based on surgery dates. No one ever said anything about someone else submitting by paperwork (I was told she does) so this was the first I heard of it. If they would have just said that in the beginning I would not keep calling and checking. Hoping the process goes quicker because I am stressed because I am supposed to have surgery on the 18th of December. I'm worried if anything is wrong and I am not approved the fist time my paperwork is actually submitted to insurance - I will not have time to fix it.

Unfortunately some insurances don't count weight loss surgery towards your total out of pocket costs. At least that is what mine says

My paperwork was submitted on Wednesday. If approved I will be sleeved on December 18th. I was already given my date. In philly pa.

Finally got a hold of her today. She said she sent over everything. They gave me a surgery date (pending approval) for December 18th.

I'm still going through UPENN but seeing Dumon because he is the only one that accepts my insurance

I'm feeling a little better today. I spoke with the case worker today and she assured me that she got it and sent everything over to my insurance. So now I'm just waiting for my insurance to approve but they scheduled me for December 18th. I plan on calling my insurance on Monday to double check that they got everything.

Dr Noel doesn't take all BCBS. I have highmark BCBS and he didn't take it.

Feeling frustrated. Last Thursday was my last weight management class. My nurse assured me I had everything and the case manager should submit all my info to my insurance on Friday of last week. I called Tuesday to check that everything was submitted. The caseworker did not know I finished my 6 classes. She then went through and said that I didn't have my psych clearance letter and asked if I had it done. I told her yes back at the end of August - using the person in their office. She said she would get it and then call be to confirm everything was submitted. I called today again to check and was told she had the day off. I'm a teacher and am planning on having the surgery done over winter break. I'm worried that if for some reason it is not approved at first that it will take too long to appeal and I may not be able to have it done over break and will have to wait. I really wish it had been submitted last week - if it had I should of had a decision by next week.

As long as I get approved I will be December 18th also

The caseworker/office coordinator is the person who sends everything over. She said she would get the needed paper and send it over and then confirm when she does. I'm hoping to hear back from her tomorrow.

You can search blue cross blue shield center of excellence for bariatric surgey and a list will come up with hospitals in each state. I know my insurance will cover my surgery completely if I choose one of these hospitals and only a portion if I go to a hospital not on the list. Good luck

My doctor office doesn't have you do an all liquid diet. They restrict to 1000 calories, so I think you should be fine.

When I was at the doctors Thursday the nurse said they had everything. The evaluation was done at their office, so there is no reason it shouldn't have been in my file. The case manager said she needed a letter clearing me for the surgery.

I completed my last weight management class last Thursday. I was told my info most likely would have been submitted on Friday. I called today to check and found out it wasn't submitted yet. The case manager said she was waiting for my clearance my my phys exam. I had this done at the end August. Feeling frustrated that this wasn't sent over yet.
