10% copay?
I have a 20% co pay andyes you have to pay for it up front. Although my surgeon is letting me pay in 4 installments. 20% of the $15,500.00 he charges will give me a bill of 3,100 dollars. I am guessing with 10% copay you will need to come up with $1000-$1,700. Not sure if the surgeon u go to will let you make payments instead of up front though.

Tortillas and rice?
I also am tortilla and rice addict. I understand the benefits of staying away from both. But I guess IF I am very hard pressed to eat tortilla my chicken tortilla soup would be the best thing.

Anyone use Dr. Farhan and/or had experience with Hurley Bariatrics? I am in the middle of getting cleared from my insurance company. So far so good. I talked with Dr. Farhan and so far the staff there seems nice. Just looking for anyone that has gone through with the band at hurley and maybe specifically with Dr. Farhan. Thanks in advanced!

new guy questions
Depends on your situation. Are you looking to self pay or try to have the insurance to pay for it? If the insurance is going to pay, whats your BMI? If you meet all the criteria I would go to your regular doctor and have him advise you. If your self pay I would contct a baratrics center near you.

Liver Shrinking? Vent...kinda!?
I went in to have a CT scan done and they said that I have a "Fatty Liver". When i went to my doctor he said I had a high tryclerides leve. He then went on to give me a precrition strength Omega 3 pill and told me to staty away from sweets. The low carb intake and omega-3 will help with the "Fatty" liver. Hope that helps.

Fills, covered with BCBS in Orlando??
Ok here's the situation. I will probably be banded some time in late april. By june I will have moved to Orlando. I currently have BCBS of michigana nd they are covering my Lap band procedure. I have two questions: 1. Does anyone know a good Fill doctor or baratrics center in or near Orlando. 2. Does insurances like BCBS that cover the surgery also cover fill visits?

BCBS of Michigan 6 month diet
Well, I talked to my doctor again and told him I wasn't able to go to surgery again. He asked why and I told him insufficient records. He then looked at my charts and showed me the note he wrote 7 months ago and all the weight in on my "vitals" chart.' I noticed the "vitals" chart was on red paper. So I called the baratrics center she said they didn't get that note in my records nor the "vitals" chart. I am guessing my Dr didn't fax it cause it wouldn't turn out since it was on red paper. So I called back my doctor and they are sending the chart with the obesity/diet/excerise note, sending the "vitals" chart, and going to write a letter confirming that we saw each other for 6 months for the diet and exercise regiment. I talked with the baratrics and they assured me that this will be enough. I hope it is.

BCBS of Michigan 6 month diet
So 7 months ago my doctor talked to me about being severly overweight . My BMI was 42 and now 43. Anways at that time he told me to go on a 1800 calorie diet, gave me a diet book, and told me walking 3 miles once a day, 5 days a week, would be fine. Every month I saw him (though not offically to keep tabs on my diet), and every time he would take my blood pressure and my weight. Dec, he recommended the lap band. Jan, i saw the baratrics doctor and started putting my papers together, getting the psyc eval done etc... My doctors gave the baratrics center my records and I get a call about a week later. They said there is nothing from my doctor about 6 months of dieting. Today I went back to my doctors and he showed me what was recorded the last six months. 6 months ago on the chart he wrote a note saying i was overweight and a diet and excerise regimant was given. Then the rest of the 6 months were only weight and BP numbers. He already wrote a letter to be put in with my papers about how I need the surgery and that I tried dieting. However the lady at the bararics center said it is not enough and need mroe documentation. Anyone else have similar experience. I am not sure if I should press my doctor to document things more? Or push the baratrics lady to send the packet out to the insurance company? Due to my schedule later in the year ,waiting another 6 months will not really work for me. I know already making excuses right? But really, my hands are tied on stuff happening this year. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else having difficulty getting motivated to exercise?
TV. Thats all I wanted to do when I got home. I watch the daily show and the cobert report and figured why not do something while I am watching. So i went out and got a treadmill. I walk 3mph during the two shows, so thats 3 miles of walking everyday and I didn't have to change anything in my schedule. PS: It don't have to be a treadmill. It can be anything from a bike to just lifting hand weights the whole time. After awhile you will start looking forward to watching TV other then just to catch your shows.

Treadmill - - Do you hold on?
I think keeping your target heart is more important for getting "exercise". But if your trying to "tone" your self you will need to give your muscles more and more challenges as you go.

Poll: How much do you exercise?
I haven't been banded yet and do not exercise like I use to. However my exercise I use to do and plan on taking it back up after the surgery involes two of my favorite things to do. Punching things and watching TV. Thats right, every weekday I would come home from work and watch TV for 60 minutes (usually Daily Show and Cobert Report). Of course I would be walking 3mph on my treadmill in front of the TV. Thats 3 miles of walking at a decent pace every day and I got my daily dose of laughs! Every other day after walking I would go into my computer room where I have my Slam Man punching bag. I do a 30 minute cardio workout with it. Too fun!:whoo:
