I finished up my 6 month supervised diet and a psych evaluation required by my insurance, plus the 3 nutritional visits required by my surgeon. Now I'm in the 2 week waiting zone for insurance approval. I'm going through the process with Optum Health Bariatric program through United Healthcare. Has anyone else been through this process with UHC? If so, was it a full two weeks? Any other info you have would be great! I'm penciled in for a August 12 surgery date, dependent upon insurance approval.

I have United Healthcare. They don't require me to loose a certain amount of weight but my surgeon wanted me to go to the nutritionist and the insurance requires the psych evaluation

I'm going through it now with my insurance. I have my last appointment next week before the doctor submits all of information (visits, psych evaluation, primary care doctor and nutritionist visits) to the insurance company. The time will fly by plus it gives you more room to plan. Be encouraged!

Yes! This waiting for 6 months is a test of my patience but I'm trusting that God knows I need the long process. I'm with Dr. Macik at Northside Bariatrics, I've gone through the psych evaluation and nutritionist so I'm just going through the 2 more weigh ins. Please keep me updated on your process. Congrats! I'm assuming your in Atlanta due to your screen name? I'm in Atlanta as well and I'm in month 4 of the 6 month pre op process required by my insurance company. Hopefully my surgery will be in August after my approval. Who's your surgeon?

Thanks for the info. I'm currently seeing my surgeon for the weigh ins and I'm allowed to use my time on weight watchers. I had my psych evaluation and currently seeing a nutritionist. Would love to have the surgery in mid August. My BMI is 43.

How long did it take for them to approve your surgery after all of your info was sent. What are the requirements for approval by your insurance company?
