  1. I feel so much better knowing I am not alone on this. I was just reading How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills by Wendell Edwards and that helped so much too. It seems that once you feel like your band isn't working like it should, then you start to eat more of the wrong things, at least for me that's how it is. Now I know I will probably need 1,2,3 or more fills to reach my sweet spot. I can't wait!!!!! Thanks everyone, you are all lifesavers!!!!!! :cool2:
  2. I was banded in NY and moved to Indiana before I was allowed to have my first fill, then I had to find a Dr. to do it. I don't eat the same quantities, but not a tiny amount either. I think I will need it about 50% too, at least it feels like it right now. It can be so discouraging! When will you get your 3rd? I will tell the Dr. everything that's going on or isn't tomorrow {gulp}! I hope you find your sweet spot soon too.
  3. Hello, I was banded on June 18th of this year and had my first fill in a 10cc band on Sept. 2. I now have about 3cc's. I will go for my second fill tomorrow, but kind of want to know if any of you didn't experience getting anything stuck, sliming/PB'ing at this stage in your journey. I know a lot of you have trouble with certain kinds of food, but I can eat anything. Tortilla chips, steak, chicken all of the things others have problems with. Is my band working???? I am not losing/gaining any weight. And to top it all off, my hair is falling out and feels so unhealthy. :cool2: Thanks!!!!
  4. I found a Dr.!!!! Thanks to all!!! Dr. Steven Clark near Indy, so much closer than Chicago!!! I go next week for my first fill!! Thanks again!!!!
  5. Hi Isabell, I am an Lap Band orphan too. I had my surgery done in NY 6/2008 and less than 6 weeks later we moved to middle of nowhere Indiana where I had to find a center that would do my fills, which most of them won't if you didn't have your surgery there. I finally found one (thanks to the girls on here!!), and will have my 1st fill next week @ 11weeks!!!! My surgeon and his staff never helped me find another center and didn't give me a plan to follow until then. I was totally disappointed. My "elevator" is the cell phone sales guys in the mall that ask every woman/girl who walks by to stop by, except me. Not that I need a phone, but to be treated as if I don't exist and not walking by is very humiliating. Great success to all of you, WE deserve it!!!!!!!
  6. Thanks for all the info, I will give them a call today to see if they will take me and try giving my band Dr. a call for them to look for me as well (they were supposed to have done that and gotten back to me, so I will call them again). I do have an appt. at Univ of Illinois tomorrow, but would sooooo go somewhere closer. Anyone know of any support groups near Lafayette? Thanks!!!!! Kristi
  7. Hi Everyone, I had my surgery done on June 18th of this year in New York (lived in Jersey), but when I moved it was too soon for a fill. Now I am 9 weeks post op tomorrow and can't seem to find anyone in Indiana to do my fills. They all say if I didn't have my surgery there they won't see me. I am in West Lafayette, and found a place in Chicago (they don't know how to return calls), but want to go somewhere closer. Does anyone know if such a place exists here? :confused2: I haven't gained any weight, but it sure isn't coming off either. ( Stuck in a rut in Indiana..... or a cornfield. LOL!
  8. ha! Now I'm curious, gonna go check out the mens group! LOL!!
  9. LOL!! I've got one of those balls, I'm gonna try it out tonight!!!!! {so excited!!} :biggrin2: Thanks for the tips ladies!!!! BTW, I think your leg length might have a lot to do with it, I'm 5'2" and have short stubby legs. So it makes it hard {no pun intended, lol} to get a good straddle.
  10. LMAO!!!!! That was great! You GO girl, show him what he's missing out on! :w00t: Let us know how that goes. Kristi
  11. Same boat as all of you. I had my surgery on 6/18 and am only a week out, but the mental hungry is killing me!! Not really, but I am getting angry with myself for doing this, thinking, I was happy before, eating is a part of our family, I enjoy eating!! Then, as the rest of the fam eats a yummy dee-lish dinner (that I made) and I am steaming in the living room, I say to myself that I was happy only eating, the result of all the eating was hell. So, I changed my attitude and blended up 5 sf orange ice pops and a vanilla shake. It wasn't amazing, but it worked. Another ?, why are some people who had surgery around the same time as me on mushies?:blushing:? My Dr. said only Protein Shakes and sf Clear Liquids (not even Jello or pudding :hurray:) for another 2 weeks!! What gives? What has everyone else's Dr. told them? Kristi (sorry it was so long)
  12. Thanks Jenn!! It is getting better, but I just want it to go away! It so sucks! LOL!!
  13. Thank God the gs pains are starting to go away!!!! I am on day 7 and the gas pains are reduced a lot! Still right under my left rib only, so standing straight sometimes doesn't happen. I walk around all day long and still it lingers. How long can I expect this annoying pain in my tummy to last?
  14. rdk211, My surgeon is Dr. Kwon in Middletown, NY. He is an excellent surgeon!! Who is your surgeon? Take advantage of your lortab!!! Use it and extra strength liquid tylenol. And walk, walk, walk!! The nurse also said to lay on my back in bed, bring my knees up as far as I can and roll from one side to the other. It will help break the gas up. It helped me a lot! Day 1 i cried to my husband and told him i made the biggest mistake of my life! {i'm a big baby} Day 2 was sooooo much better!! I am on day 4 and I have zero pain, just an uncomfortable feeling. Every day is getting better and better, especially when you see the lbs. dropping away!! Good luck, if you anything just let me know. Kristi
  15. Chrislacal, I too was banded on 6/18 and am also in NJ. I have sleep apnea so sleeping on my back is an everyday thing. I have an overall uncomfortable feeling as well. I move around all night long and can't seem to get comfortable during the day either. But, it is getting better. I've been having a pain under my left ribs, not sure if it's gas, the port, the band or what. I am going for my post-op tomorrow and will find out what my pain is. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. I wish you comfort and sleep! :grouphug: Kristi
  16. I have told my husband, my oldest daughter, my mom and sister and my mother and father in-law. I have 2 other friends who have had it done and they know as well. I told my 9 year old I was having gallbladder surgery, she is such a blabber mouth, she would tell the whole block.
  17. :thumbup:Congrats!!!! I am next week and can't wait!!!
  18. I am sooooo excited! I can't wait, but I have to lose 10 more pounds or he won't do the surgery. I know I can do it, but it is sooooo hard!! Especially this week, my hubby has been out of state for the last week and I have the kids all by myself!!! When I stress, I eat. But not this week! It has been the biggest struggle of my life, but it will so be worth it!!! Anyone else having any trouble shedding that 5% before surgery, and how did you do it? Kristi
  19. Hi sisterc!! I would like for us to be buddies! How do you feel 2 1/2 months out now? I am so excited!! I have a friend who had her band done 12/07 and she is doing great, I just can't wait to see the changes in myself!! I was 120 lbs when I met my husband, then as we dated, I slowly gained 40 lbs. I was 160 lbs when we got married and was soon pregnant with our first baby, I gained 60, then lost all but 10 lbs when I made the biggest mistake in my entire life!! I got the depo-provera shot (birth control) and gained 30+ pounds and I haven't been under 200 since then. 15 years I have been this way...getting bigger every year. I guess my breaking point came when I realized that I would have to wear a mask every night to sleep, in order to stay alive. That did it!!! I can't wait to throw that thing to the curb!! LOL! Thanks!!!! It's nice to have someone to talk with. Kristi
  20. Sweet Inca Porridge by Tosca Reno 1 cup quinoa grains, soaked 1 cup rolled oats, not instant 1/4 tsp sea salt 3 cups Water 1/2 cup chopped dates 1 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp best-quality vanilla Place first four ingredients in pot with a tight fitting lid. Cover. Bring to boil and then reduce heat to low. Simmer 30 minutes. Add remaining four ingredients and mix together well. turn off heat and let sit, covered, for five minutes. Serve for Breakfast with berries. 315 Calories 9 g Protein 4 g Fat 62 g Carbs I use the Eat to Live book as well as Vegan Planet, the last book really details how to use tofu and tempeh. I've had to learn to cook all over again, but it's fun to try things out and change them up a bit. I will have to check out those shakes, how much protein in each one? I've never heard of soy pasta! We have a huge Wholefood's about 35 minutes away, but I've only gone there to get some fasting tea, but I will def look for that pasta! I'll let you know when I try it and you do the same.
  21. vegwannabe, Have you tried the quinoa porridge? I thought it was good, but my kids are used to the sugary tasting oatmeal, so they didn't take to it too much. Like Bea, I also have the Tosca Reno books, she does have some great veg recipes. We have had a hard time giving up Italian sausages too!! I don't think I will be able to get it down though once I have the surgery. But it will be worth it!! Kristi
  22. Hello JeffR, My name is Kristi and I am a fellow NJ Bandster and will have my surgery on June 18th!!! Please let me know how everything goes! Good luck!!! Kristi
  23. Hello, I have not been banded yet (June18!!), I have just started out a few months ago wanting to be vegan, but have found my place as a pescetarian. I eat a lot of beans and love veggies and the soy meat replacements. Good luck!! Maybe we can be each other's journey buddies. We can swap veggie recipes!! Kristi
  24. Hello, My name is Kristi and I am 34, married for 16 years and have 3 daughter's, ages 15 & 9 years and a 22 month old. I am a stay at home mom and want to be around to see my grandchildren.
