  1. My husbands mother spends winters in Florida with her boyfriend. She's the healthy one but just had a near fatal fall, landing her in ICU for couple days, now rehab until end of March, maybe longer..at which point she will fly home to Massachusetts . My hubby is down there now and told me he will be back no matter what in time for my surgery on the 13 th..it's only 9 days away...now I feel guilty about having him come back. ( he won't take no for an answer either).which means another family member will have to go down ( one brother just got home today...now hubby's turn). Problem is my sister in law who feels he should stay there and I should just switch my date...she doesn't know what my "procedure" is and I am not telling her. She just started a new job, blah blah blah...how set in stone are surgery dates once ins approval goes through ? Mid March just works out so well so I will be feeling much better by summer when kids will be home full time, and with our vacation plans..am I being selfish? How long would I need him to be with me at home if I have surgery on the 13 th...how long will I need an extra hand? I don't want to keep him from his mom but I really just want to get my surgery done with no hitches ..ugh
  2. I was at a bmi of just 35 but had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and severe arthritis, so I qualified based on that. My surgeon said it was ok to lose weight and get below the required bmi because insurance only takes into consideration your weight during the intake...double check with your dr but I believe you shouldn't have any worries
  3. My weight loss center said sleeve patients can get dumping symptoms. It sounds like what you described. They also have us mixing our protein drinks with 1% milk. I am 9 days away and hoping not to experience this.
  4. Will I need a food scale for weighing things like meats, cheeses, etc. I am having surgery next week and trying to prepare, even though I can't even have for 3 weeks post op ☺️
  5. I know I am proud of my decision...to me it's just a personal thing. I have support from my husband and my kids....I don't care to deal with judgemental people, be it good or bad. This is my journey not theirs.
  6. I have also not hold anyone...Judy my husband and just recently my two teens only because they will be living with me seeing my liquid diet, etc...other than that, I am staying private I know a lot of people have said they were having a hiatal hernia fixed, I know my neighbor, who I knew was having it done, told most people she was having a female problem fixed...that stopped the questions...I don't like to lie, so not sure what I will say when people start to ask but will probably say I am eating high Protein, no surgar, watching portions, and exercising
  7. Thank you, I will check it out there.
  8. I am 13 days away and attempting to get everything in order. Quick question...I know many have said you can get PB 2 at walmart. I was there today and looked for it but couldn't find it..I looked where the regular Peanut Butter was and in the baking aisle...is it usually located somewhere else? Does anyone know what other stores carry it or should I just order online?
  9. My dr said only for the first 6 weeks. Amazing how every dr is so different.
  10. Interesting.....were you taking b12 prior to this? How did these findings compare to before surgery!
  11. I also told them this is just between us...I don't want people knowing. I am not embarrassed or anything but I have a nosy, gossipy sister who works in a very large office where I used to work, and she's always negative about certain ones she's told me who have done the surgery. I also have a brother in law who loves to tell everyone everything...I just don't want this on the evening news lol.
  12. Thanks for all the different opinions. After I got my final insurance approval today (I had my surgery date already but this just made it more real), I decided to tell them.well, actually my 15 yr old saw the Flintstones vitamins and said Why do we have these? She was really confused, so it actually was the perfect time. My 17 yr old son said good for me and he was proud. My daughter said she wondered why I had so many spots lately. They aren't dumb so honesty was best. The clinker....they both said " don't tell M", my daughter studying abroad!
  13. My dr also suggested flintstones with iron chewables, vitamin b12 sublingual, calcium with D, and vitamin c with iron. I have to do chewables for 6 weeks and can then switch to regular but they feel the vitamin b12 is better absorbed sublingually so will stay on the liquid of that one.
  14. I finally was able to get the online request to go through and it generated an email form letter back...says we can also help with scar cream....I will opt out of this though...I have had two other laparoscopic surgeries and no scar cream can completely help and those scars are almost completely faded on their own anyway. If I can get the vitamins and protein paid for by insurance I will be more than happy.
  15. Nprcowboy, have you tried phenergan for nausea? Don't give up on different nausea meds...my daughter suffers from chronic migraines and has severe nausea...there are many other nausea meds out there...good luck!
  16. When you fill out their online stuff it looks like it's for premiere, in flavor of your choice,,or optisource in choice of flavors also
  17. Good questions...I just tried to inquire by doing online request but has kicked me out 3 times, and goes to a mailbox when inhavevtried calling...is this too good to be true?
  18. Hanna, can't I ask you a question? My oldest is away studying abroad...before she left I told her I would be thinner when she returns ( I was already planning this) when she comes back in May, I will be 2 months out....woukd you rather be surprised by a thinner mom, or should I tell her ahead of time? I have always planned on telling her when she returns but I really want to surprise her.
  19. Good point samuelsmom, I think you other " moms" have me doubting the decision not yo tell ...I do need their support ( although my 17 yr old son will probably turn into the diet police lol)
  20. Thanks Selena ..I have a 15 and 17!year old...they are mature, I just don't know if they woukd feel the same about the whole secret thing..to them it's probably no big deal..( I know my sons friends parents have both had the surgery...he's told me, they didn't, and we've been out yo dinner and lots of social functions with them, and I'm sure they don't want everyone knowing either..but people know) this is what want to avoid! I have my surgery 2 weeks..I think I might consider telling them, I really hate fibbing...ugh
  21. I know, I know, I know...the whole subject of whether to tell or not. I have chosen not to tell anyone about my upcoming surgery, only my husband knows. Problem is I have two teenagers still at home and I know I have to say something to them. I haven't said anything to them yet because I I don't want them accidentally telling their friends, or their cousins, etc. but they will know something's up when I am not home one night ( hubby said we can say I am visiting friends from college) but how will I explain my eating changes and discomfort I may be in? I really think I may just fib and say I am having a hiatal hernia fixed but I have never mentioned anything like this before. I'm so torn..if I tell them, I will feel better about not lying but I run the chance of my secret not being secret any more...then again, they might be able to keep it secret...help, my brain is spinning.????
  22. I am also from ma. On ct border..do not have date yet, waiting for ins approval then umass will schedule me. I've been preparing food for rest of family but I like the idea of the small containers from ocean state job lot for me!
  23. If you have to do an in lab study, can you have someone go with you? They do allow this. My daughter had one and we stayed in the room with her on a cot, but they need to know this ahead of time to get a cot for a guest.
  24. Can you bring some protein bars with you? As long as they are individually sealed, you can take off the ship and with you during the day.
  25. My dr said some people develop lactose intolerance after surgery. Have you tried avoiding dairy to see if the gas goes away?
