  1. I was not required to have a GI consult. I was required to have an upper endoscopy and a Pysch eval, along with meeting with a NUT. I started the process on Sept and I am scheduled for surgery on March 9.
  2. I just got the shakes that I will be using on my post-op liquid diet and they are from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and I just got a starter pack to make sure that I liked them (I have read from others on here that this is a good brand). I tried a vanilla one yesterday and thought it tasted good! As for coffee I do not drink that much now and have switched to decaf. Although I have been preparing for my surgery since September and my surgery is scheduled for March 9. I start my liquid diet next week. I think the sooner you start weaning yourself off the coffee, the easier it will be. As for telling my co-workers about my surgery, nope! Only my supervisor knows (because I chose to tell her and because she is supportive) the only thing my co-workers know is that I am going to be out for surgery on my hiatal hernia.
  3. March 9th at 7:30 am for me!! I start my pre-op diet next week! Very excited and a tad bit nervous at the same time! I started the process back in September and I am glad it has taken this long because it has given me a good amount of time to get mentally prepared!! I am so thankful for this site!
  4. Thank you for sharing this!! This is very helpful! I am scheduled for my sleeve on March 9 and I am turning 40 in November. Iam currently 5'6 and 245lbs. So it was good to see that according to this chart my goal weight of 160 would be considered healthy! Thanks for posting ????????
  5. You look fantastic!! Great job!! Just keep focused and know your triggers for your "bad habits". My surgery is scheduled for March 9 and looking at your pictures makes me even more excited
  6. . Congratulations!! You should be and have every right to be excited as you are on your way to transforming your life into a much healthier one!! My surgery is scheduled for March 9 and you can bet I am excited too !!!
  7. Congrats on taking the first step in your journey to a healthier life! I started my journey in Sept 2014 and my surgery is scheduled for exactly four weeks from today, March 9 at 7:30am (I am the first case of the day ! ). My pre op diet starts on the 23rd. I am glad that this had been a gradual process because it is a huge decision and one where if you. choose not to be compliant, you will end up gaining the weight back! Please keep us updated on your journey, we are excited to be a part of it
  8. March 9th is my date and I am so excited but a tad bit nervous too' I start my pre-op diet on the 23rd! I am having my surgery in Iowa Please keep us updated on your progress and I will add your husband to my prayer list!
  9. While I am not and never have been a smoker, my surgeon made it clear that he WILL NOT operate on anyone who has even the slightest trace of nicotine in their system. He actually has you do a urine test the day of your surgery to check for nicotine! While that may sound harsh, he is only looking out for his patients best interests and health! Perhaps your PCP could prescribe something to help you wean yourself off of the cigarettes?
  10. My three kids 10, 11 and 15 know why I am having surgery and I even showed them the video that my surgeon showed at the seminar about the sleeve. It helped my kids to be able to visualize what I am having done and they are very understanding and supportive!
  11. Thanks for sharing your story and journey with us, that takes a lot of courage!! Good luck to you!
  12. Four weeks from today is my surgery! Pre-op diet starts in two on the 23rd! So excited, but a little nervous too! Best of luck to you !
  13. Congratulations to you and all on this thread! My surgery is scheduled for March 9th and pre-op diet starts Feb 23!! So excited to be on this journey to a healthier lifestyle with all of you!
  14. Maybe this is a dumb question, but what is a bougie? I have never even heard of this until now. My surgery date is March 9, thus is this something that I should be speaking with my surgeon about? What are the potential implications on my surgery?
  15. Me me me!! I just had my surgery date confirmed today for March 9 as well and I am the first case that morning at 7:30am . While I am excited, I am also a tad bit nervous too! While I have had two prior c-sections, I am still nervous as all get out about the post op time immediately afterwards!! I really do not want to be nauseated or in a ton of pain! I am looking forward to getting my life back on track, to being able to breathe better at night when I sleep, to having the lymphedema in my right leg improve, to being able to exercise longer without being so out of breath, to helping my heart become healthier and stay that way and to being able to get into some of my smaller sized clothing!! Are you nervous? What are you looking most forward to?
  16. I love reading these responses! I will say I know personally of two ladies that had the "old-fashioned" gastric bypass and they are BIGGER now then before they had their surgery!!! Thus that goes to show just how important the mental component of this surgery is! I have never been one who was big into fast-food or sweets. My downfall is the carbs (what can I say I have a Czech and German background) and coming from a family where obesity runs rampant! I watched my beloved Uncle spend the final week of his life three years ago literally suffocate to death and drop dead in his home four days later because his heart was only functioning at ONE PERCENT!! I will never forget being in his hospital room after he had collapsed at home for the second time, and listening to his cardiologist tell him that there was nothing more that they could do for him . Years of horrid eating habits+stress from his job (he was a chemical engineer that traveled a lot)+ depression (he never got married or had any kids and he regretted that decision terribly)+ little to no exercise+a genetic predisposition to obesity lead him to the state he was in! The cardiologist also told him had he done something like a bypass and then getting on an exercise and weight management program ten years earlier and he would not have been in the shape he was! Very sad and something that I will always remember! That was and is a huge chunk of motivation for me to have this, as I put it, weight assistance surgery, and better my eating and exercise habits! I just joined Curves too and love it and my surgery is scheduled for March 9 and I am very ready!
  17. Woo Hoo!! My date is set for March 9 and like you I am very excited! I am a tad bit nervous too though, but looking forward to being able to feel better, have my BP go down and be able to fit back into some of my clothes that are waiting in my closet Best of luck to you! Please be sure to keep us updated!
  18. You look great! Congratulations!! My sleeve is scheduled for March 9 and I am so excited and ready!! I love looking at the before and after pictures like yours as they are very inspirational! Keep up the great work!
