  1. So today I get a message from a 22 year old in my town, on OKC. Now remember, I'm 51 yrs old. Pup: "You don't look your age at all." Now I know he meant this to be a compliment, so I say, "Thank you." <---- First mistake. Pup: "You are very beautiful." Me: "You're very kind." <----Second mistake. Pup: "I'm just honest. I know what I want when I see it." Oy. I can't help it now, I just can't help it. Me: "You want someone older than your mother???" Yeah, I'm on a roll now. Pup: "Not older than my mother. But older, yes. If you don't want someone younger I get it." Okay, he sounds like he will be reasonable, so I try to be nice. <--- Third mistake Me: "I'm incredibly flattered. You're less than half my age. I jut don't think I can handle that large of an age gap. But again, thank you." Pup: "Can't handle the age gap or can't handle me?" Oyyy. Did he just throw down the gauntlet? Is he challenging ME?? Does he know who he is dealing with??? Me: "Okay stud, how tall are you?" He hasn't responded yet. His profile is blank on the height, which, in my experience, means they're shorter than me (5 ft 7). The questions will get more and more personal. Yes, I'm being a c-u-next-tuesday. I don't care.

  4. Before WLS, I ate as much as I wanted, frequently until I was full or over-full. Going into WLS, I knew that I (not my new tummy) would have to decide how much I would eat (as well as what I would eat). I knew that I could circumvent the surgery by drinking milkshakes all day. But good lord, why have the surgery just to try to get around it??? The surgery is not magic that is going to work no matter what you do. I knew that I would have to make serious changes, with the help of the surgery. At just shy of 6 months post-op, I don't consider myself a veteran yet. I see so many questions about "when do you feel full", and "I can eat xx cups of food at a meal", and "I can eat again an hour later". For "full" question... why are you eating until you are full? Isn't that how you got here in the first place? Why are you not portioning your food and then stopping? For the "xx cups of food"... how on earth would you know that if you portioned your food out first and stopped when you were finished eating that portion? For the "eat again an hour later"... how would you know? It's not time to eat again, so why are you trying? Are you having problems with hunger? I guess I don't get it. Do you veterans (that have been successful) still portion your food? Do you eat until you are full? Maybe these are all rhetorical questions and I should have put this in the "rants" section. But I truly do want to know the answers. I just don't get it.
  5. Same here. The pulse ox was more like a bandaid that wrapped around my finger, not a clip-on pulse ox. Although, we do have a pulse ox at work that is clip on, and we haven't had any problem with patients wearing polish or acrylics. Maybe the technology has improved sufficiently, I dunno.
  6. Breakfast choices: one scrambled egg with cheese, sometimes with bacon bits one greek yogurt one smoothie made with greek yogurt, torani syrup, handful of frozen berries, milk (haven't had one in a month or so) Midmorning snack: Only when I have yogurt for breakfast, I have a laughing cow cheese or a teaspoon of nut butter (I currently have sunflower seed butter), otherwise no Snacks Lunch: 4 small meatballs (from Costco) sautéed kielbasa leftovers from dinner (pot roast, chicken, fish, etc.) tuna with mayo, on celery or cucumber slices chili (all servings 1/3 cup) midafternoon snack: sometimes I'll have a sugar-free chocolate pudding, particularly if I what I had at lunch was heavy on celery and light on Protein, or I'll have one of those protein packs with cheese, nuts, and dried cranberries Dinner choices: steak puffy chicken (chicken baked with a mixture of mayo and parmesan on top) pork chops fish (swai fillets) pot roast barbecued ribs chicken wings (all servings 1/3 cup) plus a few bites of a vegetable like broccoli or cauliflower or avocado after dinner: sugar-free popsicle I drink about 90 ounces a day of crystal light and/or Water
  7. @@CowgirlJane It was at 2:00 in the afternoon. We were in the parking lot of a large mall that is up against the park. And we were sitting in my car. There is a regular police patrol throughout that parking lot. But thank you for your concern!
  8. I started at 403 and today I clocked in at 277. With one week left to go to hit the six month mark, that's 126 pounds down. Looking at my chart, I really only had one plateau. Then I got pneumonia and the pounds dropped off. Not that I would recommend pneumonia to anyone... I haven't had any cravings. I have had WANTS, but not a craving. I don't give in to them because for me, it's not only a slippery slope, it's a greased-lightning slope. I eat a sugar-free popsicle after dinner most nights, tropical flavor. I still can't eat more than about 1/3 cup at one meal.
  9. What's funny is I get the opposite, and it irritates me. I get, "don't you feel so much better now?" If I'm in a snarky mood (no, not ME, EVER!), I say, "actually no. I can't take the anti-inflammatories that I used to so I'm in pain now when I wasn't before." I hate the notion that every fat person must feel awful all the time. Some do, some skinny people do. I know, I work in pain management. Not all of our pain patients are overweight. If I'm NOT feeling snarky, I say, "it's nice to fit into the world."
  10. If you've been cleared for chicken. Remember that you can't drink at the same time, so can you handle the hot sauce without a beverage?
  11. @@Babbs Hijack alert... DAYUM GIRL, YOU ARE LOOKING FINE!!!!
  12. I'm 5 ft 7 inches tall, and my high weight was 403 Day of surgery (8/8/15) 395 - down 8 pounds Month one (9/8/15) 357 - lost 38 pounds, total 46 pounds Month two (10/11/15) 340 - lost 17 pounds, total 63 pounds Month three (11/8/15) 321 - lost 19 pounds, total 82 pounds Month four (12/9/15) 304 - lost 17 pounds, total 99 pounds Month five (1/13/16) 287 - lost 17 pounds, total 116 pounds Today, one week shy of 6 months: 279 pounds - lost 8 pounds, total 124 pounds So 38 the first month, then averaging 17 pounds each month for the next 4. Things are definitely slowing down now, but they're still going in the right direction, so I'm good with that.
  13. AAARRRGGGHHH! For several years, through several dentists, I have complained about one tooth in particular, in the back. When I floss, it feels like the floss gets stuck on something, like there is tartar there. Every dentist has said, no, it's just the way your tooth is shaped. So I was at my dentist getting a cleaning, and he poked around that tooth with an instrument. It started bleeding profusely. He decided to send me to a gum specialist. I saw the gum specialist, who took xrays from different angles than I had before. He showed me a bump under the gum line on that tooth, and said it was a piece of tartar. He then said I had a chronic infection because that bump was causing food to get stuck under the gum line. I also had bone loss from the infection. Astonished, I told him I had been complaining about that area for years. Jeez. So he tells me the procedure he wants to do, in order to save the tooth. It involves cleaning the tartar, then doing a bone graft. Yesterday their office calls me and tells me they have authorization to do the procedure. The bone graft portion is not a covered benefit of my plan. My copay for the entire procedure is $910. SERIOUSLY??? Now here is where I check myself. I pay nothing for my insurance premiums. My boss pays for my health insurance, dental, vision, chiro, and acupuncture. My portion of those premiums is zero. Yes, I am very lucky. Just not the way I wanted to spend $910.
  14. Well, you could always wink and say "voodoo". Or "I've decided food is overrated". It sounds like the way you are responding is negating their compliment, which is why you get "oh". You could also ignore their question and just say, "thanks! I feel great!". And smile big.
  15. There isn't even any hair on the urethral opening, which is where the catheter goes. This requirement boggles the mind. Heck, most obstetricians don't require shaving for childbirth, which actually involves that general area! And if any of my obstetricians HAD required it, I would have dropped them like a hot potato!
  16. Another update: 40-mile guy moved back to Kansas City without having met me. Hah! You lost out buddy! EH is still without matches. Meh. Match is still throwing spammers at me right and left. OKC has very few new people. However, a guy who asked me a question a few days ago followed up with another question. He doesn't have a pic, which would usually make me ignore him, but I was intrigued. We traded messages for a while on Thursday, while I was killing time at work (I was going to a meeting that didn't start until 7 pm, so I was hanging at work). As I was leaving for my meeting, he sent me his phone number and on impulse I called him. We were going to meet up Friday, but things kept getting in the way (I was delayed at work and he had some meetings we were working around). Finally I said meet me at this park, and we sat in my car and talked for a while. And... ummmm... made out like teenagers. He is in a poly relationship. He has just his primary partner now. I thought about this for quite a bit (I've been in this kind of relationship before), and I think it's okay with my current lifestyle and living situation. Or I could just be trying to justify the whole thing, who knows.
  17. Another update: the two guys closest to me closed their accounts. Haven't chatted with Mr. 40-Mile since Friday, when he was going out of town for the weekend. I'm back to square zero.

  19. I tried to add a link to my offsite blog and the system popped up a message and wouldn't let me. I think it said "no html in signatures" but I'm not sure.
  20. Internet Explorer. Just started happening tonight. Every time I go to a new page, on forums, a "share" toolbar slides in from the left (facebook, twitter, etc.). It covers up things I'm trying to click on. Browser isn't do it on any other site, so I'm guessing it's this site.
  21. My plane ticket has already been purchased for this year!
  22. My friend that was at the first ever Florida Birthday Bash reminded me of something that happened back during the divorce days. I had missed it when I redid the blog. Here it is, I'll be adding it to the blog: A little tale that a friend reminded me of. This happened in 2008, during the divorce debacle. ****************************************** I think I went from seriously making someone's day to crushing it in the space of maybe 60 seconds. All unintentional, of course. Yesterday I was in the parking lot of a large hardware store. I'm on the phone with my ex (who I swear really needs serious meds), who is insisting that he has a right to know who I've been intimate with. Um, no, buddy, you don't have a right to that info. He starts making wild accusations and I started agreeing with him, just because it tortures him. I'm in this large parking lot, there's some cars around, but I'm parked a bit far away from the doors, and every now and then I look around to make sure no one is near. I see NO ONE. So I'm agreeing with the ex, remember? I've pretty much lost all patience when I blurt out, "You're right! I was a s*l*u*t when you met me, I was a s*l*u*t when you married me, and I was a s*l*u*t when I left you! You know that I'm a s*l*u*t so get over it!" I hear a cough and I turn to see a guy walking by, with this look on his face that was a mixture of curiosity, interest, and perhaps a little fear. So I put my hand over the cell phone, and kinda whisper to the guy, "I'm not really a s*l*u*t" and he looks absolutely crestfallen and says "oh", in a very sad way, and he walks on.
  23. Well, I'm looking for a guy "friend" to do naughty things with. And I suppose talk as well. But that's optional. Send them my way. Just sayin'.
