Arms ?
Same with me. I'm 10 weeks post op. My arms look great from the top, but lots of hangings get skin. I've been trying to lift 5 lb weights in order to firm them, but I'm not sure if that will work. I'm also interested in what others have done to help firms the upper arms.

Supplements/vitamins make me sick
I went to liquid Centrum until I was finally able to eat, and keep down, the gummies. I still don't chew them, I just bite them in half and swallow with sips of Water. I've found that my taste for foods has changed since surgery (10 weeks post-op). It's improving with time, but still weird when I look at something I loved before and the thought of eating it makes me gag!

Major reflux after Sleeve and herna repair
I had acid reflux pre-op but was well controlled on Nexuim. I started having SEVERE acid reflux at two weeks post op and ended up back in the hospital with dehydration. I was throwing up stomach acid all night long. I have to be honest and tell you I'm still struggling with reflux at 10 weeks post op, I take Nexium and Prilosec every day AND keep Rolaid chews, Tums and Gas-X with me AT ALL TIMES! My doctor assures me it will get better, but can take up to 6 months. I also had hernia repair which further complicated the problem. I sleep in a recliner at 45 degrees most nights. I also deal with coughing due to the acid in my throat. All that said, it is getting better. I know its just one of the complications that I have to deal with. I also know that I'm down two sizes, look significantly smaller and I'm still glad I had the sleeve surgery. I'm off all my other medications, no longer have high blood pressure, elevated glucose or high cholesterol. So it really is worth it in the end! Good luck with your journey.

encouragement needed
I'm 10 weeks post op and the nice thing about the sleeve is the fact that you will eventually be able to "sample" all those foods that you love so much now. Everything you eat is limited by the surgery (like a sugar cookie for me is so sweet it makes me throw up), but I've had a bite of pizza, been to Moes etc. But one child's portion now last for two meals. This is a journey that we are on. The sleeve just aids in making the weight loss easier. You can do this!

Post- Op Diet
Wow. I was full liquid for 1 week then soft for 1 week. Then began transition to small amounts of normal food on week 3. You may want to ask for clarification on what you've been told.

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
My surgeon was Dr. Steve Webb in Jacksonville, Florida. Surgery was done at Memorial Hosptial Jacksonville, a bariatric center of excellence. I was approved for a one night post op stay. I would highly recommend Dr. Webb. Great bedside manner, very calm and reassuring.

You can go to the ER. The surgeon group will have someone on call. This is serious. Don't wait!

Constipation...and heartburn.. at 7 weeks?
I take 40 mg of Nexium and 20 mg of Prilosec each morning and then 20 mg Prilosec before bed. I also keep Rolaid chews, Tums and Gas-X with me all the time. I get acid in my throat/nose every night I sleep in a recliner at 45 degrees. I've asked about this at my support group and I was told it could last up to 6 months post op, but will eventually stop. I'm finally getting regular, but I've used the vegetable stool softeners/laxative since surgery out of necessity. Hopefully I'm past that stage. You're not alone. These are just a couple of the complications that you hear about before surgery but can't truly appreciate until you have them. Good luck.

Getting super anxious about food after w4 postop
I used Slim Fast High Protein premade shakes (180 calories/20 grams protein). They only come in milk chocolate from what I could find. But they do have a sugar-substitute after taste. I now drink Speciak K protein drinks. They don't meet the high protein criteria (190 calories, 10 grams protein), but they are very tasty and come in multiple flavors. I use them for snacks and the 10 grams protein definitely supplements my food consumption.

The dreaded "in-between" stage in clothing sizes - HELP!
Retail Goodwill stores. I've started buying my blue jeans there ($5.99 in Florida). I've gone down two sizes in 10 weeks and refuse to buy new clothes until I stabilize. I've also pulled out my sewing machine and figured out how to take in my dress slacks etc. I did have to buy new bras and underwear. Amazing how 39 lbs can change your sizes. But its all good. Try the Goodwill or consignment stores. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Last minute BIG DOUBTS
My husband and sons did not support my having surgery, but I did tons of research and I knew it was my only hope for long term weight loss and better health! I knew how to lose weight, I didn't know how to keep it off. Take care of yourself and trust your gut!

Do you feel a lot cold than a non surgery person ?
I'm 57 and lived my pre-op life feeling constantly hot. My sleeve surgery was Nov. 12, 2014 and now I spend all my days trying to stay warm. And......I live in Florida. I now wear socks, Under Armour and never sit down without a fleece blanket around me. I've looked on the internet and the best answer is the loss of the fat layer directly below the skin surface that used to act as insulation. I'm down 39 lbs since surgery and I know it's all in my feet and that fat layer!

Average weight loss: worth it? Starting to feel discouraged...
I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and I'm actually afraid I'm losing too much weight. 20 lbs since day of surgery 11/12/14. But I've also been sick with a terrible cold/flu and getting OTC medicines down my very sore throat has been a struggle. I see my surgeon on Tuesday and I plan to ask him what he wants my weight loss goal to be. I used the top of the recommended for my height. I'm confident I will loss the weight, I just want to remain healthy in the process.

Who Are You?
I'm a 57 yr old retired hospital executive. I never planned to retire so early, but now my husband of 35 years is being offered early retirement in January 2015. Wow, never expected that! We are both now talking about what kind of part time jobs we want to get just to get out of the house and apart from each other! I have three wonderful children. Oldest son is 30, married to the best daughter in law, and they live in Southern California. My 27 yr old son lives in Jacksonville, FL (that's where I live), works full time and is a part time student at University of North Florida. My daughter will be 20 yrs old this coming Friday and she's a sophomore at FSU. She is my best friend, confidante and just about the only person who can make me laugh until I cry. I love to teach at the university level and may go back to being an adjunct professor sometime next year. MY PART-TIME JOB??? I had a dog until I had to put him down last July. I still cry just thinking about him. My husband doesn't want another dog, and I'm not ready for that fight until I've taken care of myself - health, weight, social, self confidence etc. etc. So I spend my time reading, taking daily 3-5 mile walks and working on my family tree at Ancestry.com.

Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve
I just had my sleeve surgery last week with a BMI of 36.1. My insurance approved the surgery due to my sleep apnea. Ever doctor I needed to see (Family Practice, Pulmonology, Sleep Medicine) jokingly told me I was the skinniest patient having this surgery. I'm 57 and choose to be proactive before I ended up like my mother who has COPD, is an insulin dependent diabetic, has heart disease and morbid obesity. I've chosen to only tell a very few people outside my immediate family. I didn't want to have to explain my choice to people who think I'm "skinny". Just keep focused on your journey and ignore the people who don't truly appreciate the health issues associated with even mild morbid obesity.
