  1. Everything comes in chewable form. It just depends on what you like. If you are normally okay with swallowing pills, I would only get a 60 -90 day supply in chewable form. I only had to worry about the big pills, my multi and the calcium. everything else I was allowed to swallow and I went back to swallowing those after 6 weeks. You also may not like the taste of some of them. Get smaller amounts and try them out first.
  2. Are these grown women or teenage girls? "a lot of hard work" is all you need to say.
  3. Are you eating any processed foods. In my experience even things like ketchup and salad dressings were a no-no. Do you drink sodas? When I gave up processed foods and sodas I noticed an almost immediate change. I think in 30 days my feet and ankles went down considerably. The other thing that helped was pool walking and acquafit classes but I don't see where you can fit that in your current schedule.
  4. It's hit or miss as to whether you will experience hair loss or not. Certainly not meeting your Protein goals does not help. At 3 mths out your should be able to hit the minimum of 60 gms. In fact from what I've been reading many practices are recommending 80 or 100. It's in large part due to the shock to your system from the rapid weight loss. Your body is using all it's protein resources for nourishment which means it's not using it for hair and nails. Biotin may help a little although my dermatologist says biotin will likely help more with nails than hair.
  5. What an old but interesting thread. The odd thing is I didn't eat unhealthy I just ate a LOT if it. My family cooked from scratch. We ate all sorts of vegetable baked and steamed as well as those cooked with fat back or neck bones. We NEVER ate any blue box crap, it was real mac and cheese with lots of butter, cream and cheese. Every meal was 2 types of meat, 2 veg, 2 starches. We had to eat veg and we could only drink Water with dinner, but there was always dessert. Snack were different. We weren't allowed soda. We would sometimes mix grape juice with soda water and pretend we had soda. They gave us fruit. Especially apples with organic Peanut Butter. Sometimes Apple butter on rice cakes. This was before rice cakes were popular and they were literally just puffed rice baked. Candy was that this honey and sesame seed confection. They were actually pretty tasty. We ate good food but the sheer volume was insane Our family's crab boils were legendary In high school I ate like the typical high school student I bought my own food with my allowance. I developed a Pepsi addiction and my favorite snack was Doritos, a snickers with a Pepsi to chase it down. College was poor student fair. Lots of ramen and cheap food. Still Sunday dinners I knew I could gorge and I did. When I had my initial consultation, I told my NUT I liked healthy foods as much as I like junk food. It took a few sessions for her to see what I was talking about.
  6. I have a lot of health conditions I manage so I see a LOT of doctors. What you have described is pretty much standard cancellation policy. Most also have a policy in place that if you are 15 minutes late or more you will not be seen. So even tack on a no show fee. This has nothing to do with thinking you are a "bad person" or that they lack compassion for your being obese. It's simply hospital wide policy. My other feeling is that the rescheduled appt wouldn't be such a big deal if this second occurrence hadn't happened. Again this is pretty standard policy in most reputable medical facilities. If they have to report to insurance a certain amount of supervised appointments and you do not show up for those appointments, chances are insurance would deny the pre-authorization anyway. My suggestion is have your cry. Then look at your schedule and clear time for these appointments. If you aren't a morning person, don't schedule early appointments. Set those appointments in your phone and send yourself reminders a week out. There will be more challenges than this post - op so pull on your big girl panties and get to work.
  7. Ditto. I LOVE greek yogurt and since it's a good source of Protein I eat a lot of it. The goal is to find good, clean (meaning not heavily processed) sources of protein that are easily digestible. Go to the market and start reading labels. May be try cottage cheese or ricotta baked with a little shredded cheese.
  8. Depends on the person and whether or not they bounce back quickly. Some folks can go back in a week, others need more time. Think about how you tend to recoop from illneses and judge accordingly.
  9. Wow. I was unaware they had made changes other than adding new flavors. How long ago was this ? Fairly recently. Here's the post talking about the changes and the side effects it causes in some.
  10. I'm more a Whole Foods than Trader Joe's gal, but TJ's has a really good soyrizo I like. I don't even recall the brand but I know only TJ's sells it. II like cold brewed coffee, but I make my own at home.
  11. I think it depends on your experience with hospitals and such. For many other than a visit or 2 to the doctor they may not have had surgeries and procedures. For them it's a big deal and can be a little scary. It's perfectly normal. If it gets too overwhelming you can let them know when you check in and they can give you something to help calm you.
  12. I had a reaction from the tape they use to hold my PICC line in but I wasn't surprised. I am allergic to latex among other things. However be careful using hydrocortisone around your incision sites. It can actually hinder healing. My doctor said to only use warm Water or betadine if you have it.
  13. You should have asked the nutritionist that. Also a fruit smoothie with no sugar is a bit of an oxymoron. If you're having fruit, you're getting sugar. Where would the 40 grams of protein come from?
  14. *That* is hysterical! Seriously though. Walk as much as possible, raise your arms as if you were using dumb bells. You have to move that gas out.
  15. I'm vegetarian so I'm sure that plays a part. Lots of plant based foods full of Fiber. I am regular as clockwork and have been pretty much since day 5 post op. I go anywhere from 1 - 3 times a day, most days twice. I always have to go when I wake up and sometimes again after dinner. I find that on really active days, depending on what I've eaten I may go mid-day as well. Like the other posters have mentioned add some natural fiber in there. Apple or prune juice are good options. Probiotics or yogurt are also good. If you eat yogurt or hot cereals a tsp of wheat germ, flax powder or psylium powder may help.
  16. About 6, 7 months in I started getting thinning around my temples. I am also post menopausal so I'm sure that played a part as well. It's a little weird that it appears to be mostly in the front. The back of my hair is still really thick.
  17. I go to LaFitness and have been a member for the past 4 or 5 years. I was 412 DOS. They offer 3 day passes. They also work with many insurance companies. Check your plan's wellness component. Mine pays for my membership and it's an all access membership. I can go to any LaFitness in the country. If your insurance doesn't cover it do not sign up in the gym. I've heard tell they try to upsell you lt of extra fees and services you don't need including personal training that you are locked into for a year. Go home and sign up online. They almost always have cheaper prices. Personally I love LaFitness. I have never been made to feel ashamed or embarrassed and on the few occasions I use the machines, the staff is really good at showing me how to use them.
  18. You can't chug because you just had major surgery on your tummy and it's still healing. Like mentioned sip all day long. When eating go snails pace slow. At this point fluids are more important. Keep sipping but keep in mind that it takes most people a week or 2, sometimes more to work up to a minimum of 64 ounces.
  19. 1. How long did you go before having your first drink? - 6 mths 2. Have you had any MEDICAL complications with your surgery that were attributed to drinking alcohol? NO 3. Have you gained back significant weight from drinking alcohol? NO 4. Have you developed an alcohol addiction post VSG after having been able to control your drinking before? NO I am a social drinker, but it really depends on when the mood hits. My first drink post-op was at a wine tasting. I had a drink over the summer at a get away weekend with friends. Since the new tv season has started I have a glass of wine on Thursday nights. I mostly drink wine, but occasionally also have beer or vodka.
  20. How did you type that with only flippers and no fingers? That proves that dolphins are extremely intelligent! Arthur Dent typed it for me. Humans are good for some thing like that.
  21. so long and thanks for the fish!
  22. Pre-op I had arthritis in my left knee from a torn meniscus while skiing. I actually developed arthritis in my right knee after surgery. The good news is I've caught both instances early enough that the doctor says as long as I am staying active and keep losing knee replacements are off the table.
  23. Remember unless your doctor says differently it's fluids, not Water. A Protein shake is a Fluid. However Protein Powder mixed in pudding is not. As mentioned you make up a schedule. I started between: 8 and 9am - Sip a Protein Shake for an hour 9/10 am - wait 30 minutes. 10:30/11 Sip 2nd Protein shakes. My shakes were ~ 30 - 38 grams of protein. So by 1 pm I had hit over 60 gms protein. First few weeks this is the time I would go for a walk. Other wise I just started sipping on water. The first 2 weeks if I got through the entire 24 ounces of my water bottle I was happy. Combined with the fluids from my protein shakes I was hitting 64 ounces of fluids. dinner was typically Soup during all liquids phase. Any of the foods I mentioned above after that. Around 8 pm, I would sip a little more water, but that was pretty much it. My goal was to get that protein in early so I could focus on drinking water.
  24. Use an online recipe calculator.
  25. You may have eaten too fast. It doesn't hurt to call your doctor to make sure though.
