Newbie here
Congratulations on your current weight loss and decision to get healthy. Sometimes it takes that one thing that will push you over the edge to make it happen. For me it was a diagnosis of stage 3 kidney disease. Unfortunately I waited too long and my health suffered but now I am down 96lbs and much healthier because I made this choice. I have never regretted it for one second. WLS gave me my life back! Good luck on your journey and if there is anything you need please feel free to reach out.

7weeks out, feeling down, weight stopped
Here is the thing, if you had the sleeve previously or the lap band previously you should know exactly what you should be eating and doing to lose the weight. Icing is definitely not on the food plan and you already know that because you are scolding yourself. You have to get comfortable cooking meals for yourself and staying away from any pre-packaged foods. There are a lot of lovely Protein rich meals you can whip up in short order. I am not sure what phase of the plan you are supposed to be on but I am guessing if you are eating frosting, you are on regular foods by now. Lean chicken, Turkey, Beef, and pork provide excellent protein. Along with eggs, Beans and protein supplements. If you focus your meals around those foods and fill in with good carbs like vegetables and fruit, you will be well on your way. Also, I am sure you know this but the more sugar & Carbs (empty calories) you eat, the more your body will crave them. The other thing is exercise. Not sure what your current activity level is but if you are not exercising start by walking a lot everyday. I wish you the best of luck and I know if you put your mind to it you can make it happen. You just need to have a talk with yourself and decide if you are going to be successful. It is 100% up to you.

Not noticing weight loss?
It depends on how heavy you are to begin with. For me, I started noticing big changes after the first 40lbs. I was 310 to begin with. I started first noticing that my rings were too big and my shoes started to get really lose. Following that my clothes became very lose and I had to buy new pants. it will come fast, you are only a month in, give it a few more weeks. This is always the time when you lose the most weight. Once you get onto to soft foods and your tummy heals, the weight loss will become consistent but likely your weight loss will range from 1 to 5lbs in a week. Some weeks you may just stay the same as your body adjusts. Good job and good luck! You are doing fantastic!

Nothing tastes good anymore!
Your tastes definitely change for a while after surgery but honestly a lot of it comes back within a few months. The important thing right now is that you focus on your Protein, liquids and Vitamins. set a timer if you have to. Honestly, down the road you will wish you had that always full feeling so enjoy dropping weight rapidly now. That slows down as your tastes change and your ability to get hungry comes back. I started actually feeling real hunger around month 3 post op.

What is in YOUR "SnackBag"?
My favorite snack is actually pistachios, beef jerkey and cheese. I will also snack on a great piece of fruit but I watch how much fruit I eat because of the sugar.

Finished a 5k this morning!
Outstanding! What a great accomplishment!

What are your daily totals?
I have never been told to focus on calories. The focus from the very minute I had surgery has been: Protein - 1 gram for every one inch of height, fluids - between 50 to 64 oz. daily at the minimum, Vitamin supplements - b12, Calcium, multi vitamin, Vitamin D If you focus on that all the other stuff will fall into place. Now of course the diet to get to your protein goal almost forces the rest. If you eat your protein first, there isn't room for all the stuff you are supposed to stay away from. I don't worry about fat and I focus on good vegetables and fruit. I eat full fat cheese, beef jersey and nuts for Snacks when I need one. I also drink lactose free milk as a snack or if I am hungry between meals.

When can you have......
I avoid Pasta like the plague because it is a trigger food for me. I am 7 months post op. I do eat a small amount of rice and potatoes about twice per week. You just have to be prepared that when you eat those things it is harder to lose during those periods. Also, I did not touch any of those types of carbs until I was about 6 months out. The soft food diet can get old but it is worth the wait because you heal fully and then when you do eat some of those things you will tolerate it much better.

looking for some help
I had the same problem with the pre op diet. After talking with my surgeons office they told me to drink a very good chicken broth in between the shakes which would be a relief from all the sweet. Canned broth would not cut it so they suggested two options. 1) I could make a homemade stock by simmering a chicken, carrots, onion, garlic, salt and pepper until the chicken fell off the bone. Then strain that stock and drink that in between the shakes Or 2) purchase mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup in a box. The one with the golden egg. Make a batch of that and strain out the noodles. Drink that broth. Because I was 4 days into my liquid diet and was trying to avoid being around good I went with option 2. I swear it was the best thing I had ever tasted. It was hit, rich , salty and a complete opposite to those shakes. It made dealing with the shakes much easier and saved me through the pre op diet and also worked great for my post surgery liquid week. Good luck!

Oh, the smells!
Yes. I actually believe that is part of being in Ketosis. It definately gets better down the road but it can be very off putting. It happened to me all the time on the first 4 months with many smells, now it is just the smell of eggs for me. I cannot eat them because of the smell, they make me gag and ultimately I get sick. About once a month I try them again to see if has gotten better and with everything else it has improved. Eggs are still a bit of a hold out. Greasy and sweet foods used to do it to me as well but that is now completely gone. Also perfumes/colognes. It will get better!

Help! - Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program.
This is actually outrageous! Unfortunately this sometimes happens when not using a bariatric specific doctor to do the supervised diet. I am so sorry you had this happen. I hope your insurance company does not deny your claim.

May 4th Surgery and so nervous and scared
Everyone gets nervous and anxious right before this surgery. Take some big deep breaths, read a book, listen to music, anything to get your mind off of it. For me I focused on the end result and how exciting that would be. It actually helped get rid of the nerves. Good luck!

7 day newbie
LOL! No it is not forever but I know exactly what you are talking about. As soon as you get back on soft foods it gets much better and usually turns to constipation. That up is fun too! LOL!

Longest day ever.
Almost everyone has that pain. Alissak is right it is from the gas in your tummy. Getting up and moving is the best thing you can do. When you are resting whether sitting of laying, use a heating pad, it really helps. Also use gas x strips and drink lots and lots of water in small sips. Good luck! I wish you a safe and speedy recovery!

Is my life ruined for ever due to my weight loss surgery?
I hate to say this but have you tried going back to liquids and starting the phases over? I have read on this site as well as others that sometimes it takes some people longer to heal than others. Your new tummy might just need a little more time. I would try going back to full liquids phase for a week. If you start feeling better then try introducing soft foods back into your diet one at a time. I was probably 8 weeks post op before I could eat anything remotely crunchy. If you are not healed, this could be part of the problem. This is just my opinion as I did not have the experience you are talking about unless I was pushing things into my diet too fast. I definately get nauseous and pain when I eat things that are too dry like bread or dry meat. For the most part I don't have issues with any other foods besides bread and eggs.

First Day Home after Gastric Bypass Surgery
@@WildGrits, pain melds are notorious for actually creating more pain. I think it is because they make you tired and less able to tolerate the pain. At first they help, for the first day or so and then after that they were of no help to me. Also I was on narcotic pain medication for years following spinal fusion surgery. After many years I still had terrible pain. I read something about narcotics actually causing more pain and decided to stop taking them. I no longer have pain every minute of the day. Yes I still have some pain but I can tolerate it and have found different ways to deal with it instead of those medications. Like ice and heat.

First Day Home after Gastric Bypass Surgery
I am so sorry that you have so much pain. Pain is different for everyone so it is very hard to compare one person to the next. I hope you feel better soon!
