  1. I had my pre-op labs, swallow test, EKG and anesthesia clearance yesterday and started my liquid diet today. I quickly realized 2 things: the liquid diet won't be so bad after all and that there are SOOOOO many things around is that we can put in our mouths! I guess nothing will make you more aware of that fact than not being able to eat them....LOL! Procedure is on 10/17 and I'm super excited ????????????
  2. Well, the day that seemed so far has finally come. Have to be at the surgicenter at noon and procedure is at 1:30. Please send up prayers and good luck wishes for me. I have all of my essentials ready and have decided that I will have a good post-surgery experience with minimal to no pain. Everyone here has given so much encouragement and information that I really feel more prepared than when I first started researching. Thank you all so much! I'll check in once I get home ????
  3. Hello all! I was banded on this past Friday, 10/17 and have been trying to figure out what occurred. I only have 3 incisions- one from where the band was placed, one from where my hiatal hernia was repaired (I'm guessing) and one from where the port was placed. This is unusual, no?

    Getting banded tomorrow!

Hi you guys! I'm wonderful! I came back to work yesterday and did just fine. I pushed a little too far by getting to work at 5 am and not getting home until 9:30 pm and I definitely felt it. I changed my clothes, took some pain medicine and went right to sleep. Today I almost feel back to normal. I'll be 7 days post-op tomorrow. Thanks for checking on me ????

Just got banded Monday the 20th

That sitting in the belly thing is new for me as well. Then after about 4-10 minutes I feel the food drop into my stomach. Very weird indeed.

6 days post op and no issues with jello. Try to chew it first. I know it defeats the whole purpose of jello but it kind of liquefies it so it's easier to swallow.
  7. Can you have yogurt on your full liquid diet? I'm post op day 6 and have 2 Premier Protein shakes per day (30 g of protein each) and supplement with one Greek yogurt which has 12 g of protein.

    Hernia

I had a small one that was discovered and repaired during surgery. My surgeon had a clearance form that I signed ahead of time stating that if one was found it would be repaired, so I wasn't surprised when he told me that one was found and repaired with a few sutures.

    Pre-Op Diet: Day 8

I'm on day 7 and I've been doing ok. My husband was eating potato chips this morning and that got to me a little and I'm not even a potato chip person! It gets easier mostly but yesterday I was so tempted to eat a cookie or a piece of candy or something! I resisted and drank some tea. My procedure is this coming Friday (6 days) so we're in the home stretch. Good luck- you can do it!!

    Banded today

Congrats to you! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  13. Thanks everyone for the positive posts about the band. I was becoming a little disheartened.
  14. So, how did your surgery go today? Are you doing okay?

    Started my liquid diet today....

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words and optimism as well. It's really helping me to know that there are so many success stories and people who are loving their journey. Anesthesia clearance was me meeting with the anesthesiologist and him asking about my previous history and whether or not I've had problems with it in the past. He then signed off on the surgery and said it was a go.
  16. You're wonderful and so optimistic! My procedure is scheduled for 10/17 as well. Good luck with your journey!!

    Hair Loss?

So, I've noticed several patients saying that they've experienced hair loss as a result of being banded. I'm wondering if I start taking plenty of Biotin BEFORE my surgery if it will help with mot experiencing hair loss. My procedure is October 17 and my pre-op liquid diet starts October 4. Thoughts or advice?

    Hair Loss?

Thanks, that's the conclusion that I came to after doing some research. Thanks again!

    The start

I have BCBSIL and it took about 2 weeks total but I called them every 2 days. My surgeon's office called me last week and we scheduled my surgery for 10/17. Just stay on them. I didn't have to meet any extra requirements. Just that my BMI was 40.

    I'm a little confused

Doctors are the worst when it comes to eating habits. I don't understand why he would have even told you those things. I think it's because a lot of doctors have the need to be right. I love that you made the decision to not listen to him! I don't care what anyone says. I'm in control of how successful I am once I get banded.
  21. My surgery is scheduled for 10/17 and I decided before I was approved that I wasn't going to tell anyone. Only my husband knows. I don't want to hear how I shouldn't get the procedure done, it's this, it's that, I know people who......blah, blah, blah. I'm doing this for me and I don't care what anyone thinks. I'll tell my parents when I can no longer dodge the "what are you doing?" questions though.
