Feeling like you're getting no where
I've found counseling a huge help. I need lots of reinforcements as well as the "whys." The NUT and these boards & my therapist and the support from my spouse have been life savers. Its good you can identify and acknowledge your struggles. That's the first step! See! You are already on the road to a healthier life! Learn to take it one day at a time. Enjoy every moment. After a while that will be a good habit replacing a bad one. ☺️

Feeling like you're getting no where
That's me...Hershey's kiss is not a good thing. Comes back up, after half a bite. Talk about empty calories taking up precious real estate, btw.

Feeling like you're getting no where
Nutrionally speaking bread is not necessarily empty calories. A little bit will not hurt. So far so good! Notice I used the term FLAT. Not sure what everyone else's medical professionals have told them but with my team, bread in small doses is a-ok. Flat bread only, however and only after getting proteins and veggie carbs. It helps boost energy. Low carb protein and fiber rich tortillas are my fav. 1 pack will last me a very long time. At any rate, as I said previously, to each its own. I work with my NUT and surgeon and I do what works for me and thats my advice to anyone.

Feeling like you're getting no where
Really? Everyone ( Doc, NUT, nurses) always referred to it as a pouch...a restrictive pouch...

Feeling like you're getting no where
First congrats and good luck with the surgery! Second, you will find that your pouch (are you getting a sleeve?) will totally take care of portion control inless you are a sadist and enjoy excruciating pain and trips to the ER... I can get down 2-3 oz of Protein like chicken, steak, or fish. After that a couple of bites of veggies. Then maybe a nibble of a FLAT bread like a tortilla and thats on a good day.

Injured my knee
You sound like me. I fall way too much. Always had a balance problem. It got better when I practiced martial arts but I was 25 years younger and didn't have aches, pains, & creaks then and had time! LOLYou are right...I do need to take it easy. I have an MRI tomorrow but just very sore. I actually got a head start on taking a break because I've taken off work till the new year! I just couldn't do the crutches. I went back to do a class and what happened??? A freaking lock down drill. So I am trying to flounder and hide with crutches. Ugh. Not good or safe especially if it had been a real lockdown. Thankfully the semester ends tomorrow so just have exams to grade at the moment. Was supposed to plan 8 gazillion other things before the new year FOR next semester but it will have to wait!! Going over to gym tomorrow to sign up for water aerobics. Wish me luck!

My father-in-law is oblivious.
Is that NOT THE best feeling in the world??? Being able to take a bite and leave the rest? I swear its a natural high, that self-control! I grew up 15 mins outside of Center City Philly and I always stayed away from South St., The Italian Market and Redding Terminal because of places like Termini Bros and all the Dutch PA goodness that is in full force this time of year but now I feel strong enough to go because I know that I can look at all the holiday fair and as delicious as it looks and smell, I can walk right on by! Congrats to you! and happy holidays to you both. Best of luck!

My father-in-law is oblivious.
OMG Terminis! YUMMMMMMMMM! Pat yourself on the back for giving it away because one must be strong to not touch any of their delicious sweets! The Force is strong with you and your husband. I know the surgery helps but still....your hubby is doing right by himself and by you because one bite and the next thing you know you wake up the next day & don't remember a thing. LOL

How to know if you've had gastric bypass (Funny)
Me too. I am always cold! I find myself crawling under the covers earlier too. Just freezing!

When did your hair loss start?
Same here. Biotin, protein, vitamins, nothing helped prevent. Going to salon tomorrow and having a pixie cut done.

Starting my Journey.. TODAY! first appt!
Not sure how your insurance worked but my family doctor and all the other docs submitted weight reports. Does your insurer have a customer service # to call? Mine had nurses on call who helped guide me through the process. I'd call my insurer and ask.

Feeling like you're getting no where
Thats a question I had too. I was told its possible but there are painful consequences involved. My NUT, doc, etc all told me to stop the moment I feel satisfied. Usually I feel full, occasionally stuffed if I drank Water to close to eating. Keep in mind, portion sizes can be relative. That being said, I personally can't imagine ever being able to eat a full portion of anything ever again since my pouch is so small. Curious to see if anyone has ever experienced eating a full portion. Have you had the procedure yet? The first few weeks after I really did hate myself. I was miserable. Now I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Food no longer runs things, I do. ???????????? LOL

Wife's sex drive
Yikes. I know if my husband did that I'd tell him to enjoy all the sides he wants because he'll never get the main dish from me again...and the judge will divvy up the rest. IMO. Every relationship is different. With that "side piece" attitude, he can be somebody else's problem. ????

Kids are so honest
Funny you mention that! When I was a young teen, my mom lost about 65 lbs because she found out she had Type II Diabetes. Diabetes picked the wrong lady to mess with and in her usual fashion, she did not eff around! She became a runner and would run up to 5 miles a day M-Sat and kicked Diabetes arse! This was 35 years ago and she has maintained ever since and never batted an eye. She is in her early 70s, is wracked with osteo-arthritis but not even that stops her! She walks now instead of running and she's got the legs of a 25 year old dancer still! I am so proud of her..... BUT I remember missing her cushion-y hugs! LOL I'll take her slender, healthy hugs over no hugs any day though!

Wife's sex drive
If this is an option, maybe try couples counseling? It could all be simply a medical thing affecting her libido but a licensed counselor can give you both an objective outlet to express your feelings, needs, wants...etc. Please don't be angry at her. Not saying your feelings are wrong...just saying that anger in this case doesn't seem to help. Sorry that you guys are going through this. Hope all works out. ☺️

What was your most recent NSV? (non-scale victory)
This might not sound like a victory but, Saturday after last, I fell and messed up my knee...badly. Here's the victory.....I was able to get myself up using my one good leg...hubby helped but he lifted me up like I was a feather! THAT felt great despite my knee hurting!

How to know if you've had gastric bypass (Funny)
I had a GVS but I can relate! My fanny hurts from sitting. Never in a billion years did I ever think those words would come from me. I can still compete with Kim Kardashian but as I shrink my bones are telling me not to sit long. Thats a good thing! ☺️????☺️

Feeling like you're getting no where
Panera has a great chili. I find I can only eat about a 1/4 cup of it and then I am good. Its nicely seasoned and makes my taste buds and brain feel like I ate something significant since I'll eat it slowly.

Feeling like you're getting no where
It gets easier. My mistake was rushing to the next stage. I've slowed it down quiet a bit though...at 5 mos out I still have stomach discomfort but thats ok. Take it one day at a time. I like myfitnesspal app because it keeps my butt accountable.

Injured my knee
You read my mind! I've been wanting to get back into the pool. Knee isn't up for laps BUT I can handle water aerobics! Thanks!

How does this work long term? How do you maintain?
At what point did you start eating salad after your sleeve? I've been wanting to incorporate salad back into my diet but I am so afraid of uncooked veggies. I find veggies that have not been in the very least blanched, don't sit well. I just passed the 5 month mark. Every time I think about eating "lettuce", even baby spinach, my poor pouch starts telling at me to eat only steamed or cooked veggies. Lol I am a trained cook so I can get very creative but I would love a small salad once in a while.
