Surgery
It is very common to be denied because of weight gain as a pre op. They're wanting you to lose weight for two reasons usually. One is to gauge whether you are willing and able to make lifestyle changes regarding diet and exercise. The other is to shrink your liver, as it has to be moved out of the way during surgery. You have reason for concern.

Last day off before returning to work. Any suggestions ?
Don't overdo it Dub. Try and take breaks when you can. That exhaustion can kick in out of the blue. Best of luck and congrats!

Cigna Approved!
Congrats on the quick approval!

I am so tired
Exhaustion is very common. Your body has been through a lot. I didn't start getting my energy back until at least six weeks. Now I have more energy than I've had in years. It will get better. Hang in there!

1day post op and feeling pretty good.
That's fantastic to hear it all went well. Congrats!

So why does this annoy me so much?
It really goes to show how paramount the pre op education portion should be stressed, and also enforced. This is pretty much a one way ticket punch. You not only have to know where you're going, but how difficult the route is along the way. And most importantly, that success isn't a given. It was so hard for me to wait a year, including six months of classes, especially knowing that other regions in my insurance program only required three months of classes. But now I'm eternally grateful, and doubly so that that I found this place three months before my classes even began, and I've been here ever since. I was well prepared for the realities of my surgery, and that has really helped me to adjust better to post op life.

How much time off before returning back to work?
I took the full six weeks. I wanted to not only heal but adjust to everything. I ended up having an extremely easy recovery, with the exception of exhaustion. I was taking daily naps right up until I returned to work. In the end I was very grateful to have had the extended time, but if I had been forced to, I could have gone back in two weeks, maybe even one. I was lucky though that I had zero complications, not even nausea. Everyone is different. Good luck!

DO YOU HAVE ANY LOST LOVED ONES THAT YOU WISH COULD SEE YOUR SUCCESS?
My father who died in 2000. And my best friend who died of cancer in 2006 at the age of 45. You never stop missing them.
