Grandbaby Brag Book (Pic intensive)
As a completely off-topic idea, I thought it might be fun to share pics of our grandbabies, for those of us who have those wonderful angels in our lives. Given that this is the Forties thread, I figure there might be a few of us! I have two granddaughters, ages 6 (in Feb) and 2, from my only child (daughter, age 26). NSV's for the Merry Losers
I've noticed that difference too - stay awake and alert all day, instead of hitting that wall and practically passing out at around 2-3pm. I think it also has a lot to do with dropping the carbs for lunch. I did notice in previous diets if I didn't eat pasta or bread for lunch, I didn't hit the wall, but of course I could never give up my yummy lunches and so had that problem almost every day.

Perth people, where are you?
Hi Rastis The appointment with Dr Watson went really well. I was in and out in 15 minutes flat! He was pleased with my weight loss (9kg so far), which has started to come down again after stopping/going up for a couple weeks after the op. I wasn't sure that I really needed a fill, as I haven't been having that hard of a time sticking to the portion sizes. I do the same thing - use either a small Soup bowl or a small side plate and don't heap it up. I find if I'm eating solid food, that really fills me up and sticks for hours. If I have liquids though, like the Optifast or soup, I am hungry again an hour later. I told all this to the Doc and he ended up doing only a 1cc fill, which is half the normal first fill. It was a piece of cake too - tiny little needle for the local anaesthetic and then felt nothing after that. Mss: My appointment was 9am and I was walking back to my car by 9:15! Sorry I missed you. I do the same - surreptitiously look at others in the waiting room and wonder if they are posting here.

REALLY weird recurring problem
It does seem like a weird problem and I have no real answer, but whenever forums like this go weird on me, I clear my cache and delete all cookies and start again. That almost always gets rid of whatever problem was occurring. If that doesn't work, try contacting the site help people.

how much for Dr. Watson?
I had to wait six weeks from when my GP wrote the referral to when I could make my first appointment (27th Nov). Dr Watson agreed to do it straight away and my op was only 2 weeks later (10th Dec).

how much for Dr. Watson?
I'm a self pay (no private insurance) and it has cost me just on $10,000 with Dr Watson. I will get a little bit back from Medicare but not much.

Don't Waste Your Money!
Roberta, I find it amazing to see how willing you are to leap into threads for other people and attack, and yet turn around and ask for sympathy and support when YOU are feeling down. Have you asked your doctor for help in these extreme mood swings?

Do your insecurities affect your relationship?
I'm sorry that you're feeling like that about it, acl, but I do think you hit the nail on the head with the title of your post, "your insecurities". You trust your husband and I'm sure you have good reason to do so. The issue isn't whether or not he will actually do something outside the bounds of your marriage, but that you feel insecure when comparing yourself to the girls performing their act. Take it from someone who used to do see-thru/skimpy bar work in her younger and slimmer days - it IS an act and those girls have no interest in taking your husband or intruding in your marriage. He might look and even hoot and holler a little, but it is all just done in fun and does not mean he would ever stray. Looking is not the same as touching! I think you are doing the right thing in having a bbq, so that you can enjoy yourself and take your mind off things. I believe that letting him do this without getting all emotional about it is your best path to a stronger marriage - one in which you are demonstrating that you trust and have faith in him. It can be hard to do, when you are feeling vulnerable and insecure, but it would be worth it to create that feeling of trust. Chances are that your trust in him will make him appreciate your relationship and love you far more than any jealous tantrum ever could.

May not need a fill?

May not need a fill?
I've only been banded since 10 Dec and am due at the doctor's on Monday 15th for my first fill. I'm not sure what is going on, but I've been feeling less and less hungry over the last week. My post-op regime was supposed to 4 days on Clear liquids, 7-10 days on thick liquids, 1-2 weeks on mushies, and then back to normal eating, with the transition times being up to me and dependent upon how well I tolerated food. I was very good for the first 10 days, sticking exactly to the routine, but found by Day 10 I was absolutely ravenous. I made a big error in judgement on Day 10, and broke down and ate 4 breaded/fried half chicken wings Yes, yes, I know I was only supposed to be going into the mushy stage at the time and chicken wings aren't mushy!! Mind you, I did chew them to mush and beyond. Anyway, I've already been spanked severely for that on these boards when I confessed at the time, so please don't do that again. I need your advice on a different matter now... Over the mushy stage, I was pretty good although a couple of things were probably more "soft food" rather than truly mushy. Stuck to the calorie requirement well (in fact way below). About the only thing I did wrong was that I tended to push the 1 cup limit a little on the evening meal. I would get towards the end of the bowl and know that I was full and should stop but couldn't resist the taste and couldn't bear to throw the food out, so would just take it really really slowly and finish it all. At the end, I would feel uncomfortably full for quite a while, but never PB'd or anything. I can tolerate just about any type of food and am satisfied for hours on 1 cup. Anyway, now I am finding that I am feeling less and less hungry as the days go by and am starting to feel slightly nauseous all the time. I'm starting to get worried that the early chicken wings and the eating beyond the point of hunger have caused problems, possibly slippage or stretching the pouch. My port is in an awkward place (right on my waist line) and my work pants press against it uncomfortably when I sit. It also presses against my desk and over the last week, I have noticed it is starting to look a little bruised behind the scar, when it had been well-healed before I returned to work last week. I've been finding it harder to finish my evening meal Could the bruising be causing swelling, which is why I am not so hungry? Should I tell the doctor not to worry about the fill? I don't know how much I have lost in the last week, as I am not able to get near a scale till I get home from the mine site tomorrow night, but I don't think it has been a great deal. Typical day's eating: Breakfast - 1 poached egg, 1 muffin (no butter or fat) lunch - Optifast dinner - 2oz meat, 1/4 potato, 1 tbsp Beans, 1tbsp peas (or carrots, corn, broccholi, etc), 1tpbs gravy. 2-3 cups coffee with skim milk (not drunk with meals) Total: @ 700 cal I don't think I should be trying to eat much less than this, so don't think I need a fill, but am worried about why that is...

Pouch Says "NO MORE", Head says "EAT MORE"
Hehehe - it was a fun game, competing against my two older brothers, and we didn't seem to cotton on to the purpose for years. Even when we did, the game was such a habit, that I still feel a little weird/guilty if I crunch up a lolly and eat it quickly. It's amazing how long you can make something like hard rock candy or boiled sweets last.

Tiny Expensive Crab pack
Hmm... I think I might have overstated the case with the "well-done". I didn't mean cooked dry! It was more of a relative definition, compared to the way I cook beef. I like beef rare - ie bloody in the middle, whereas I prefer lamb to be only a little pink in the centre. Each to their own, I guess. And lamb is generally cheaper than beef here, typically around AUD$10-12 a kilo (US$4-5 per pound?), whereas good steak can run up as high as AUD$20-25 per kilo. I think when buying roasts, they are about the same. In the lambing season, the price can drop to AUD$7 a kilo and, if there is a bad drought making the farmers slaughter all their stock, it can go even lower.

NSV's for the Merry Losers
I made goal in the swimming pool last night! I've been working my way up to do 1km, which is not easy in a little pool. It takes 50 laps of the camp site's 20m pool. The first night, I did 10, 2nd night 20, 3rd night 30 and last night I went for broke and did all 50! I was tired at the end but felt so good!

Well, I Lost my band last week
That really sucks, jc I hope you make a full recovery and find the way that is right for you to get where you want to be, weight-wise.

Tiny Expensive Crab pack
If you ever see Lamb Shanks on the menu at a restaurant, you have to try them - to die for!! I'd post a recipe, but it sounds like you would have a hard time finding the meat in stores, so not much point. Do you have a specialist butcher nearby, if you can't get lamb at the supermarket?

Tiny Expensive Crab pack
Wow, you never had a leg of lamb before?? I'm from Australia and we eat a LOT of lamb (my favourite!), but I have heard that it is not very popular in the US. A nice way to roast it is with garlic & rosemary. Slice some fresh garlic into fine slivers and break the leaves off a sprig of fresh rosemary; make a dozen or so incisions all over the leg (just stab it with a vege knife, about 1/2 inch deep) and put 1 sliver of garlic and 1-2 spikes of rosemary into each slit. Roast as usual - lamb should be reasonably well done, rather than rare in the middle like beef. Enjoy! :hungry:

NSV's for the Merry Losers
Let's have our very own Non-scale Victories thread! My first one: I can do up the seat belts on the bus into work in the morning!! I work on a mine site and we get bussed from camp to site, and HAVE to wear seat belts (safety regs). The driver comes by to check before taking off and up till now, I've had to hide the fact that I couldn't quite click the buckle in. It's always been so embarrassing having anyone see me struggle and then have to hide my failure from the bus driver. This week, it was tight, but it did up every time!! YAY!

What is your goal?
Long term, I want to get down to 60-65kg (132-143lb) which would be a total loss of 60-65kg (starting weight 125kg/275lb). Yes, I want to be exactly half the person I was! Short term goal is to get below 90kg/200lb by June, as I'm going to the US on holidays then and want to meet a lot of people that I know online and DON'T want to do that at this size!

Valentines challenge/Goal
My goal at the moment is to get up to swimming 1km per night. While I'm up at work (mine site), that means 50 laps of the little 20m pool. So far, I did 14 laps the first night, 20 the second and 32 last night (640m). I'm going to go for the lot tonight!! I think it will be a little easier when I get home and can use the 50m pool at the local fitness centre.

Don't like fish
I've had success with this recipe from people who said that they really didn't like fish, but loved this. Cheesy Fish Bake (The full version for the family) 1 thick (1/2") fillet per person 1/4 cup shredded low fat cheddar cheese per fillet 1 teaspoon butter/marg 1/2 cup white wine 1/2 cup vegetable stock (from cubes is fine) Garlic salt Seasoned flour Lightly coat fillets in seasoned flour. Grease frying pan with 1 tsp butter/marg. Fry on one side only, using low heat (too high and fish will stick or you'll need to use more butter). If fillets have skin, fry on skin side. Transfer to large shallow baking tray, fried side down. Mix wine and stock and pour over fish. Sprinkle with garlic salt and top each fillet with 1/4 cup of shredded cheese. Bake in HOT pre-heated near top of oven for approx 12 mins. Fish will be cooked by the time the cheese has gone golden brown. Serve with cheese side up, spooning pan juices over the top. Cheezy Fish Bake (Quick and easy version for one in microwave) 1 fillet fish 1/4 cup shredded or 1 individual slice low fat cheddar cheese 1/4 cup vegetable stock (or water) Garlic salt Put fillet into small microwave dish (no bigger than fillet, fold or squash fillet to fit). Add stock/water. Sprinkle with garlic salt. Cover with cheese. Microwave on HIGH for 2 mins. The second one isn't as drop dead yummy as the first but it is still tasty and is so quick to prepare!

Crud - I swallowed a piece of gum :-(
Wow - I'm glad I found this thread! I wasn't told anything about gum and I've been chewing the sugar free kind like mad! I haven't swallowed any (which I would normally do), as I kind of had an inkling that it might not be such a good idea, but had no idea it could be that bad! No wonder people aren't dealing with their hunger pangs by chewing sf gum! Damn!! Now what am I gonna do, coz that was working so well!

Application help!
I have to agree with Wheetsin. I've seen applications from both sides of the employer/employee situation and have always found that the most success comes when you can specifically address the points they have advertised for by demonstrating how you reach that criteria. That's a good application letter, but it is a little general - you will get better mileage out of focussing directly on the key features they have asked for.

Pouch Says "NO MORE", Head says "EAT MORE"
I don't seem to mind that part - just as long as I get the flavour for longer As a kid when travelling long distance in the car, my parents used to play "Who can keep the lolly in their mouth the longest?" game with us (hehe - to stretch out giving out the sweets, the sneaky things!), and I just think of that game and it is kinda fun. I try to play it against myself, seeing which mouthful I can make last the longest. However, I've been wondering just what the big deal is about the "mushie" stage, when even after graduating from that, I chew everything to a fine mush anyway.

OOH! A new forum!
Now all we need is for the forum administrator to learn how to spell "forty" and we'll be laughing!

Perth people, where are you?
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope it goes well for the future! At the moment, I am back up on site, so unable to get near a scale and find out if I'm losing anything. Oh well - everyone was telling me that the daily weigh-ins weren't helping my state of mind, so perhaps it's a good thing that I have to wait just over a week when I'm on site, because I am obsessive about it when I'm home. I think I'm doing well up here - FitDay recordings say I'm doing all the right things - but the acid test will be the scale when I get home. I'm anxious to see the doc on the 15th and get this fill...
