To weigh or not to weigh?

I have to admit that I do the scale thing...But it helps me to adjust what I eat.....I've been stuck now for over a week so it's time for me to get serious about walking ...not just when I feel like it or can fit it in.....going to have to make it a priority!!
  2. Surgery was September 3 of this year and as of this morning I am 51 pounds down....put for the last week nothing. Since I'm back at work I have been having getting my Protein and liquids in since they changed my shift to 1pm to 7pm. Between getting ready for work and trying to get things done around the house a lot of times I'll run out of here without having lunch...Then by the time I get home at 8pm I really have to force myself to eat something....Hopefully my hours will change soon, but you never know with the airline industry. I know I'll be doing a lot of traveling for training too, which really scares me as far as my eating is concerned....I'll have to make sure I have a frig in the room. Just remember what ever you lose is better than the alternative.....
  3. I am having the Band to Sleeve revision on September 3rd.....Anyone else???
  4. OK...Sorry for the wait...haven't really felt up to anything until today. Surgery went well but took almost 4 hours, my doctor said it wasn't the worst he's seen but it wasn't easy. He said there was a lot of scar tissue. Because of the length of the surgery he suggest that I spend a second night in the hospital, which I did. I have to say I thought I had a pretty high tolerance for pain, but the right side was really painful. In fact know time to time it still hurts. But know I'm starting to come around. I am still on a clear liquid diet until Thursday, then I can have all liquids for one week, then onto soft foods for a week. I can honestly say I'm not really hungry, but I am nauseous from time to time. My doc gave me a script to help with that. I came home with a drain and go on Thursday for my one week check and to have the drain removed. All in all everything is starting to come around. I have been getting about 30 to 40 ounces in in addition to sugar free ice pops and some sugar free Jello.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you......BCBS in SC doesn't cover any Bariatric surgery in South Carolina. I had to apply for Medicare in order to have mine covered.

  7. I am more than ready! I am one week of liquid diet and let me tell you it's a killer. Cooking dinner for the family is the worst.....I have to admit week one I cheated a bit and had a spinach salad with grilled chicken with a tiny bit of balsamic vinegarette...September 3rd can't get here soon enough!
  8. I started my 3 week liquid protein diet this Tuesday....The worst thing for me is cooking dinner for my family....3 weeks UUUGGGHHH.......
  9. Getting excited as my surgery date is coming quickly, the only concern I have is how long is it before I'll be able to lift 50 lbs?? My job at times requires me to lift suitcases that can be up to 50 lbs...not sure how long I'll have to be out of work..Did anyone have a similar concern??
  10. Good Luck to you too!!
  11. September 3rd for me!!!
  12. I would give the Dr. office a call, you have nothing to lose. I have had paperwork misplaced. I am impatient also, but I think by now you should have an answer. Can you check the insurance company activity on line? I know I can access all of my BCBS info on line. Unfortunately in SC they don't pay for any bariatric surgery. Luckily I am eligible for medicare because of my MS and there isn't any pre authorization required. I was scheduled for 7/23 but just got a great new job working for an airline so I postponed it until 9/3 after vacation season is over...... I can't wait!! Good Luck!!
  13. I was never advised...I also was ed to believe that it was permanent..
  14. OK...my surgery is scheduled for July 23rd, and that's all I've been thinking about....UNTIL I got a job last week...not just any job a part time job in the travel industry. I mean these jobs don't come around often and there was no way I was turning it down. My problem is of course I couldn't tell them about the surgery because there are 100 others waiting in line for this job. It requires that I go out of town for 2 weeks of training, which I am trying to cram in pre op. My question is post op. Is lifting objects a concern? At times I will be required to lift objects up to 40 pound for very short distances. It's actually just to pick them up and put them on the conveyor belt? How long before I am able to do it? I don't want to lose my dream job, but then again I don't want to mess up my surgery. I may have to delay the surgery....something I DON'T want to do. HELP!!!!
  15. My dr. said that you can't leave until you pass the sip test which isn't administered until the day after the surgery to make sure that there are no leaks....

    New and sleeved on 6/16

With my surgeon the post op diet he has outlined is clear Protein week one, then on to full liquids week two, pureed foods week 3, soft regular foods week 4....and then on to regular foods. Always eat protein first and then veggies and then carbs if there's room. And no drinking 30 min before , during or 30 min after meals. Good Luck!

    Starting Again

So happy for you!! I can kinda relate...I had been banded in 2004 and had nothing but problems with the band. We moved and I hadn't seen a dr. for it since 2006. It got so bad for almost a year I slept sitting in a chair because if I laid down I would cough up chunks of food all night. I finally got up the nerve to go to the dr, to find out that my husbands BCBS of SC excludes all WLS. I had gotten my hopes up of converting to the sleeve since at this point I now need to lose 150 pounds or so. After brooding about it for a while I realized that I was actually able to get Medicare since I am disabled with MS, that day I went to the SS office and signed up for it....More than woth it , July 23rd can't come fast enough.
