How Long Was Your 3 Week Stall?
Hi Everyone, So I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow and for the past 6 days I haven't shed even half a pound. Before everyone chimes in let me give you the info 1) Yes, I know the 3 week stall is perfectly normal and everyone goes through it. 2) Yes, I know you shouldn't weigh yourself every day and I'm not. I'm talking about a span of 6 days here. 3) Yes, I'm wearing the same thing every time I weigh myself. All that being said, I would like to hear from others about how long your stalls lasted. I thought it would only be 3-4 days but no luck. Am I looking at closer to two weeks or should the scale be moving any day now? I'd like to get an idea so I know when I should start worrying that it may not be the normal 3 weeks stall, but possibly something I'm doing wrong. I'm still struggling to get all my fluids in a day. I get them, but it's a struggle. And I'm getting about 40 g of protien and I can eat about 1/3 of food at a time. Thanks for any input!

I HAD MY SURGERY
We thought it might be the IV too but I've been off IV 24 hrs now and like clockwork it goes back up when the meds wear off. I have a pcp appointment Monday to follow up. Hopefully it's under control by then.

I HAD MY SURGERY
Omg I had initially planned to be alone because I'm working out of state and had my surgery where I'm working. Thankfully my husband decided to join me. I couldn't have done this without him. Has anyone else had trouble with blood pressure? I don't normally have high bp but ever since the surgery it keeps spiking to the 180/120 range. I'm being medicated for it. Hope it passes soon.

I HAD MY SURGERY
Well, this past Wednesday as planned, I had my surgery. Gastric sleeve. OH MY GOD I WAS MISERABLE!!! We read all these stories about success and how wonderful everything is after the surgery. I never thought about how miserable I would be waking up after surgery. You can't move, you can't drink, can't stretch, nothing. But, as the days go by, things get a little easier. I have a long way to go but I'm recovering nicely. I'm 4 days post op and I'm able to move around on my own for the most part as long as it doesn't involve bending over. I'm down 15 lbs since starting my Preop diet 5 days before surgery. It's funny because I keep thinking this recovery would be so much easier if I were skinny. Oh the irony.

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!
I'm on day two of my 5 day preop (see my previous post on this thread) and I have a full blown, raging sinus infection. I'm pushing liquids and any remedy I can think of to get rid of this as quick as possible. I hope I can get rid of this before Wednesday.

Smoking....
I quit smoking almost 13 weeks ago because my surgeon required me to be NICOTINE free for 90 days prior to surgery. He also required me to pass 3 nicotine test at 30 day intervals to prove this. I used Chantix because I knew I wouldn't be able to do it on my own. And anyone posting on this forum that says anything about not being strong enough to quit cold turkey needs to go take a good look in the mirror. They're on this forum because they don't have willpower made of stone either. I can tell you at 13 weeks smoke free and 6 days preop, it's the best decision I ever made. Of course I still have moments where I think "I could smoke" but I don't give in. I haven't noticed any change in health or the way things smell. The only difference is now I don't smoke. I didn't waste my time or money on the vapor cigs. They may work for some, they wouldn't have for me because I enjoyed smoking too much. I smoked for 15 years. Between being a non smoker and my surgery next week, I know I have fully committed myself to being healthier and to the journey that lies ahead. The warnings about smoking and surgery are true. Nicotine (NOT JUST SMOKE) constricts your blood vessels and keeps you from healing. Do you really want to do a life changing surgery just to have it all ruined because your body can't heal? Good Luck to you! Feel free to message me if you have any questions or concerns about Chantix. In my opinion, it's a miracle drug.

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!
Wow I feel kind of unique in my preop diet. My surgery is the 19th but I only have 5 days preop diet starting on the 14th. Strictly liquids (including Protein shakes). I'll let you know how it goes once I start.

Shapewear?
Check the body suits from JC Penny. They pricey, around $52, but awesome. You wear a regular bra but they suck in the tummy and butt and even have shorts attached so everything is smoothed out.

BSBS NC
@@Mggr14 I'm actually having my surgery in PA. I'm up here working until next January. I do however live in Wilmington so I will be visiting the bariatric COE at CF Regional I think for any long term follow ups. My cousin just had hers done in Charlotte but I don't know the name of her surgeon.

BSBS NC
I have BCBS NC and I'm 3 weeks preop. I started this journey back in June. As of July 1, they eliminated the 6 month diet requirement. I was a smoker so my surgeon required 90 days nicotine free (I'm 11 weeks yesterday) which is what has taken me so long. Honestly, I just did everything my surgeon's office required of me which included blood work, ekg, psych, NUT (psych and NUT are both required by BCBS too), ekg, & chest xray. Plus 3 nicotine test 30 days apart. As soon as I had everything done besides the nicotine test (I had one done at that point) my surgeon's office submitted me for approval. I didn't even know they did that because I thought I would have to wait till the 3 nicotine tests were done. I only found out they even submitted me because my surgeon's office called to tell me I was approved and to schedule my surgery. So I can't offer any advice on how long the wait was but I can tell you that just by doing what my surgeon required, I was approved no problem. My out of pocket max is $1500 and I'm at $1200 just getting everything done pre-op so my surgery will only cost me about $300 (plus the OUTRAGEOUS monthly premium).

Isopure clear protein drinks
I like the red flavor. The grape tastes like smelly feet.

Any November Sleevers for 2014 need surgery buddys?
Preop 11/5 and surgery 11/19 for me! My PA asked me if I was sure I wanted to be on a post op liquid diet over thanksgiving....I told her if that mattered to me at all I wouldn't be going through all this. BRING IT ON!!! Oh and by the way, I'm also almost 8 weeks nicotine free! This journey finally gave me the motivation to quit smoking.

13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico
I started typing a long winded, critical post until i finally realized I could type till I'm blue in the face and it wouldn't make a difference. All I can say is, I would report any parent even considering this to DSS. Shameful.

Pre-op diet...... Destroyed!
@@waitingtoexhale, I apologize if I read your post incorrectly. I took "I've eaten what I've cooked for the last 2 days baked turkey wings w/gravy and pinto Beans (it is protein) I also had 2 jerk chicken tacos!!" to mean you had been eating turkey wings, beans, and tacos for two days. If you have been sticking to the diet and had a slight relapse, then that's normal. Everyone is going to do that. I personally had to give up smoking to even get my surgery scheduled. Talk about self control. It's has been one heck of a ride over the last few months getting through that. But I am victorious and nicotine free (my surgeon is requiring nicotine test). So after kicking that, i know I can kick my bad food habits too. Nobody expects us to be perfect. Like I told my surgeon, if I had a will made of stone, I wouldn't be sitting in his office. I just wanted you to be prepared to fight that same fight post op. Yes your stomach will be smaller and help you gain control. That's the point. YOU TAKE CONTROL and you have a TOOL to help you do so. The surgery doesn't control your appetite. That's a mental battle that you have to be prepared for. But you can fight your appetite a little easier on a stomach that gets fuller quicker. You are the only one accountable for how successful you will be with this surgery. YOU KNOW ALL THIS!!! Just like you should know we're not going to hold your hand and tell you everything will be ok. You have a fight ahead of you, we all do. Our success will depend on how we handle our own battles.

Newton's First Law of Obesity
I am 8 weeks pre-op and I'm already experiencing some of these wonderful changes. I had to quit smoking before my surgeon would agree to operate. He is requiring 3 nicotine test at 30 day intervals to prove I quit smoking. I've been nicotine free since 8/12/14 now!! Just like food, my life revolved around smoking. All the little things we do every day (like getting in a car or drinking morning coffee), I associated with smoking. The first couple weeks were really tough because of that. I had to constantly remind myself I was a non-smoker now. I couldn't even think of it as "I quit smoking". That implied I could start back. No, I have to think of it as "I'm a nonsmoker". No chance I'm letting that habit get a hold of me again. But gradually, as the weeks past (just started week 7), the habits and the way I thought about them changed as well. I no longer have to remind myself I don't smoke when I get into a vehicle or pour myself a cup of coffee. It's just the way life is now, I'm a non-smoker. Don't get me wrong, the battle isn't over yet. I still get cravings occasionally, and I do have to remind myself at those times. But in general, my life no longer revolves around getting in a cigarette. I know if I can beat that demon, I'm going to be successful at my WLS too. Just remember, you're not "dieting", you're living a healthy lifestyle and that's just the way it is, it's not temporary.

Pre-op diet...... Destroyed!
@@waitingtoexhale, I hate to be the one to say what I'm pretty sure you're already thinking (and if you're not, maybe you should). Are you ready for the surgery? I haven't had it yet myself, and to be honest I haven't done a lot of dieting or healthy eating for that matter in the last few months of planning for the surgery. But I'm 8 weeks away from it now and I just received my insurance approval a few days ago. It's like it's finally real for me now that I've been approved. I know it's time to get serious because the complications from not following the directions are endless. If you can't handle a few days of strict requirements, how are you going to handle an entire lifetime of changes? Sorry, I'm really not trying to lecture (especially since I'm pre-op myself), I just think sometimes we need a little kick in the butt to make us see the whole picture. The amount of food they recommend for you now is more than you'll have in a day post-op. Can you handle that? And the point of the surgery is to take control of yourself and your life and not let food control you anymore. Can you take that control or will you continue to be controlled by the food surrounding you? I hope everything works out for you and I wish you the best of luck if you have the surgery.
