Why gastric bypass
I had a lapband and had NOTHING but problems with it! I had reflux to the point I'd wake up aspirating and all food got stuck...even ice cream! I originally chose lapband because yes it is less invasive but don't let that fool you. I had lapband for 2 years....2 years too long and ONLY lost 23 lbs....18 lbs was prediet. October 7th my insurance graciously approved to have revision to RNY and I've lost almost 30 pounds in 2 weeks! Dr said RNY was good for me because I was a BIG sweet eater and this procedure makes your tummy very sick if you eat over 2 grams of sugar. If I could do it all over again, I would have NEVER had lapband and went straight to RNY.

Back pain post op?
I'm 5 days post op and have horrible lower back pain. Nurse said could be referred pain from surgery and also the gas they use to expand your stomach. Sometimes its worse then the incisions.

Got a date...anyone else having surgery October 7th?
Great ideas ladies!! The Bariatric protein powder is good..chocolate! I know my Dr said after surgery to not go over 5 grams of sugar due to dumping syndrome. The applesauce sounds awesome! And adding unflavored protein powder would work! ☺ Yall need to read "The Big Bariatric Surgery" book. I purchased on Amazon to read on notepad. Gives soo many helpful hints and advice w diet and menu help on what to eat during each phase. I also bought "Weight loss surgery for dummies" and it's a great book too!! I'm gonna have to get the sugar free Hershey syrup! Yummy!

Humana?
I have Tricare/Humana and was approved in 2 days! I wrote a letter to insurance and also my gastroenterologist wrote a letter of recommendation. My BMI is 40 & I currently have high BP, hypothyroidism, GERD, Hiatal Hernia, Steato-Hepatitis. Not sure if all that contributed to the quick approval, but thankful they approved! Good luck!!

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
That is good to hear! Congrats on your approval!! I had my initial consultation Wednesday and based on my BMI and Co Morbidities I qualify. I also so my liver specialist yesterday and he stated he will write a letter to include in my auth request packet stating in order to stop the progression of my liver disease it's imperative I have the revision. Fingers crossed! I have apt Aug. 8th to have EGD to ck for band erosion and also look at esophagus since I've been having horrible reflux. Also referral has been sent for Psych eval. I'm hoping I can send in enough info initially to not have to appeal. We shall see. Do you have a date set yet?

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
Thanks for your post and help! Hopefully Tricare won't be as strict about the second surgery. I do know they said they only pay for one weight loss surgery per lifetime, but also said hey would consider if having problems, which I am. Irisheyes72, good luck with your surgery!! Hope it all went well!! Let me know how the surgery went and keep me posted.

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
I am new to this Website and love it so far! I had a Lapband placed in May 2012 and have only lost 24 lbs! I get stuck and have one issue after another. On two different meds now for Reflux from band. I am seeing Dr. July 2nd about having Revision to Gastric Bypass. Has anyone had this done and if so what are insurance requirements? I have Tricare Reserve Select.
