  1. That's great and good luck to you! I don't meet with the surgeon until mid September but I have met with the rest of the team already and I can't wait to go forward with this process.
  2. I haven't got to that point yet but I always thought I would try them ahead of time just to make sure they weren't going to make me ill so I would have time to run out and buy something different in case they taste yucky lol
  3. Awesome job! You should be so proud of yourself!!!
  4. awesome! Good luck to you all. I can't wait to finish the hoop jumping and get my surgery date.
  5. The waiting is the worst part imo. Good luck!
  6. I think for me it was my cousin, who is 4 years older than myself, who is overweight and has had Type 2 Diabetes for years and earlier this year had to have her foot amputated due to uncontrolled diabetes and weight issues. That's so scary! I don't want to be like that and I am tired of being self conscious and not wanting to leave the house. I also want to start being in pictures with my husband and children before they all move out and start families of their own. (Well...the husband won't be moving out lol) It is risky and scary but it will be so worth it and I am looking forward to changing my life. Good luck to you all!
  7. Yes, you would think that would be an easy thing to do wouldn't you? The people at the ins co don't seem to know anything about it. Even my husband's HR dept can't help us find the info. They say they will try to get the information and get back to us. I have contacted the surgeon's office and am waiting to hear back from them.
  8. Thanks Jersrose for your response. It just states that Bariatric surgery is covered "when the patient meets specific conditions". I would like to know what the "conditions" are. Still waiting to hear back from the ins. co. Thanks again and have a good weekend.
  9. Congratulations to both of you! Hope all is going well and that you are feeling better by the day.
  10. I have been trying and trying to get information from my insurance company. I was able to find out that they cover bariatric surgery but after reading so many posts on here and other places about problems that come up I would feel much better if I could get a copy of the policy in writing. I called the number on my insurance card - that lady couldn't help me at all so she gave me a number of someone else to call who couldn't help either....but guess what? She also had a phone number of someone else to call who might be able to help me....I think I went through this process 5 or 6 times before losing patience and giving up for the day. Why does no one have any information about the policy for these procedures? My husband even went to his HR department yesterday and the lady there just looked at him like he was an alien lol. She had no idea but she would get right on it and make some phone calls.... Surely I am not the first person under this insurance policy that has had or needed one of these procedures? Why is it so difficult to get this information? If anyone has had SSM Exclusive Choice I would appreciate your input on what you had to go through. So far all I know is that I need to undergo a 5 month physician supervised weight loss program. Thanks and I am sorry for ranting my first day on the boards
  11. Hi everyone. I am new too. I have just started and I am hoping to have my surgery in November this year. Good luck to you all and happy losing
  12. Thank you Odesa! I am so excited to get started. I think I am driving my husband a little crazy lol. You are doing awesome on your journey I see, congratulations and continued health. I will be so much saner when I actually know more of what my insurance company requires and get to meet the surgeon
  13. I have been reading everything I can on here for the last several weeks so I thought I would pop in and say hi. I am a 51-year-old woman, married for almost 22 years with 3 children (20, 18, and 17). My heaviest weight was 267 lbs (about 252 right now) am 5' 9.5". Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes almost 1 year ago. Have considered surgery in the past but my BMI was not high enough and I did not have any comorbidities until last year. I joined WW (again) and tried to lose weight on my own. I have no trouble losing 20-25 pounds on a diet but then I "find" them again. I have tried so many different weight loss and exercise plans and eventually failed to keep any weight off. A friend of mine went through gastric banding, which she had a lot of complications with, and then had the sleeve done. She looks awesome. It has been about 5 years and she has kept the weight off. I think I am going to go for the sleeve procedure also. I have Exclusive Choice (SSM) and they will cover the surgery and I have just started the 5-month medically supervised diet with my PCP. I joined WW online and go to see the doc once a month. That should be completed by the end of October. I have not been to the seminar yet as they cancelled the first one I was scheduled for so I will go next week. I have gone through my three hour appointment and met with the nurse, nutritionist, and counselor with the Weight Loss Institute. I am scheduled to meet the surgeon late August. All of you are a source of inspiration for me and hope that I can turn things around and get my life back. Thank you! and I wish you all continued success and good health : )
