What is everyone eating on Puree?
last night I did a white chicken chili, used McCormicks white chicken chili mix, tyson's chicken (in the canned section, but the pouch) added 1/2 can of low fat cream of chicken to cream it up and the navy Beans. Served with 1/8th chunked up avocado, and melted cheese on top. pureed mine and the rest the crew got fritos underneath. We all were very happy in the belly. low thirties last night here in GA. This morning I did a pureed version of a crabmeat omelet. Soft scrambled an egg, topped with 1/8 of a cup of warmed mixture of crabmeat, low fat cream cheese and avocado. It was yum yum also.

OCTOBER 2014
OK some questions, see what other folks have found out. pureed stage My plan says 1 to 2 ounces of Protein (about the size of a matchbox) and then a 1/4 cup veggies or something etc. no more than a half a cup combined. 1 to 2 ounces is that in a measuring cup, a liquid ounce, or weight like on a scale, not sure if there is much difference, but any input? Also, if I don't have a veggie or starch I want, is it ok to add more protein instead? Never mind, it said I need the veggies/carbs Last question, when you are eating a soft protein like 1 egg, or 2 ounces of tuna salad, can you really make it last 30 minutes? I can do 20, but cant seem to go much slower than that. That is just for the protein, not adding in a carb.

Need help - What did I do wrong
I think it is your decision who to tell, but as you wife did not understand, make sure she does now, and forgive her. As they say, it can not be undone, but make sure she understands from here on out.

I talked to my doc, area is still sore, they think it is just muscle healing pulling, as I am passing gas, pooping and drinking eating fine. I think my increased activity caused it. worked 8 hours, spent three more with my son, now showering and off to boyfriends. Happy day! Hope everyone else is continuing to heal well, and if you are struggling, hopefully you will feel better soon.

I have been getting a pretty persistent pain in my lower right side for the last couple hours, not to the point of hospital, if it still there in the morning, probably will check with doc. but what is on the lower right side? Had trouble with liquids the last couple days trying to do pureeds. probably 45 to 50 ounces per day. not bad I know but not there either.

Feeling soooo FULL
check with your doctor on that, hopefully not a stricture or blockage.

Slurpee, I like Slurpee, but I would think the sugar is a no no. I read about drinking a 8 oz of liquids at time, trying to finish in an hour. trying that today instead of carrying one big bottle and sipping on it all day. it was overwhelming and had not been getting enough in since i started purees.

My doctor said from the very beginning, no pain meds other than tylenol after you leave the hospital. Though during the pre-op appointment they told me at that time, I would get a script for liquid lortab, with NO refills, he does not believe in the pain meds. He wants you to use liquid tylenol after that. Had the morphine in the hospital, but since I stayed an extra day, they started me on the liquid lortab there. Got a script for 1 bottle when I checked out of the hospital. I used it religiously for the first 3 days home then started alternating with the tylenol to make it stretch. Saved 1 dose of lortab for emergency, which I ended up taking after my 12 hour outing on saturday. I luckily have been doing well and only using the tylenol every once and a while. I hope you feel better soon and if you are in great pain, hopefully your doctor will attempt to figure out why, not just medicate.

I had one done during the bypass, as well as hiatal hernia repair. preop testing said I had a borderline fatty liver, so I guess that is why, I never remembered to ask. and if I read the test results correctly, no problems. gonna go back and check again, now that you mention it.

Pureed diet. I have eaten, scrambled egg, scrambled egg with a third a slice fat free cheese, fake crab salad, chicken, black beans, and sf dark chocolate pudding w protein added. Eggs, chicken, black beans and pudding all good. Normally about 2 measured ounces of the protein, quarter cup of other. My stomach has been fine except not like the taste of a couple things which more just made me nauseous at the first bite. The egg with no cheese and the fake crab salad.

wow, I have not heard anyone who was told to take an nsaid, mine said it would be to hard on the belly and could cause problems, most others that I have heard from got the same info. I would love to take an aleve or motrin, though I weened myself off them prior to surgery. It is amazing the different info we get. good job on getting off the narcotic meds.

Afraid of getting back into old habits!
Hang in there until you can get help. The main thing is to distract yourself when you have urges to slip into old habits. Do you have a friend you can call. I remember one night driving around Memphis cruising food joints, like an addict looking for street drugs. I was so angry that I could not just be bad, wanted to just pig out, my normal reward for being stuck out of town traveling alone for work, I ate, and I ate good. I called a reformed drug addict I knew and talked myself down off the ledge. Are you going to local support groups, can you find one, if you are not? reach out here if you need to and no one else is available. Find a new hobby or project to immerse your self in. We fixated on this during the preop and the beginning post op phases, but once you are through them, it is easy to let the old habits slip back in because it is not new anymore. Remember your hard work and stick with it. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
